  1. right lads your gonna laugh at me for this but heard alot of talk about hares on the fens and so on since i've been on here. what is the fens terrain like and what does it take for a dog to do well there. heard its meant to test the best of dogs. remember ive only been lamping for 3 years and never been to the fens so please no stupid comments. also for the people who do run the fens could they say what x they use and how they preform. i know there will be a 100 different type of answers and how long is a peice of string but all possitive info welcome. cheers lads/laddies
  2. mate i think it is possible and seen it done an old friend has one. but its far from a 3/3 hare dog it will have the odd one here and there, preban of course. its a saluki/grey x bull/grey not sure of the % but he can do them. its mainly a lamping dog but does manage the day time winter hare. hope this helps
  3. only you as an owner can interpratate when you think your pup is ready to move on with there progress every dog is different theres no set time table with dogs. being prity new to working dogs my self i had the same problem 3 years ago. main thing is if you feel she ready and quick enough to do the job easy enough but start slow and go from there. and never let her get disheartened. be sure to know when to call it a day and make sure its enjoying it otherwise what ever age you start you'l do more harm then good. maybe a few more experienced lads can help you with a few things to look out for w
  4. fair enough lol mine used to hate water up untill they were around 10 months then put them on few rabbits and now they'l go in everytime as long as theres something to chase. but if theres nothing to chase there like twinkle toes around water.
  5. tidy pics lads and laddies sorry mlb nearly forgot you there. did yours all do it as pup mines only first did it about 2 months ago now cant keep him out lol
  6. you would have to be thick as shite to be drawn in by one mans crap you'l find soon enough the price will keep tumbling untill near nothing. hope they get stuck with them serve the money grabbing fuxkers right lol
  7. Hope it was a drake it caught the other day then couldnt tell you, if drake is a male then yes if female then no.
  8. when the ducks are on the banks my lurcher stalks as close as he can then storms them sometimes with luckk it pulls off and others he ends up chasing round for 30mins on water also does it with swans and geese. here's a pic of him
  9. that would be nice to see mate mind dont get him to drown for the sake of a good pic mate lol yeah mate lol im always down there when its hot good exercise for the dogs as they'l do it all day as long as theres something to chase lol they wont do it for a ball or a stick lol
  10. few pics of the muts chasing stuff round the lakes almost had another duck again so close lol
  11. im off in the next half hour to the lakes so i'l get some my bed/whip/grey is always after the swans and the ducks he'l swim all day if i let him lol. and im not just talking about by the edge either he'l swim good 100 or so metres in to get something. he had a duck the other day lol
  12. topic title was just to get people to view my questions. the actual questions i was seriously asking was the ones in my statement not in the topic title and a few lads on here with the brains could figure that out easy enough and did so i.e riohog. glad there is someone with something between there ears. cheers for all the good comments lads and to the negative ones with there head up there ass
  13. take it this was owned by you, cracking looking and was still running well at 8.5yrs nice to see. was he certain line or is he worker to worker between friends and how was he bred. nice dog tho just like mine ive got here, mines 22tts
  14. riohog you got it spot on mate glad a few of you can make sense of what i said lol
  15. well have you considered why i might of hit a brick wall i ask a question to do some research into lines and dogs that are now passed that have created these lines and i get some prickish answers. at the time being very very new to the game i wasnt expecting much at all and didnt know what to expect. if i caught one i would of been happy but now im progressing in the sport when the times right i want to get the right dog for my job once these dogs have passed. it would of been pointless spending alot of money on a dog from a good lines as an owner i wouldnt of done the dog justice but i feel w
  16. nice looking pack mate credit to you all
  17. think on this site does more harm then good asking questions and askin for help next time wont bother. just pretend to know it all yeah that better for you lads might fit in better
  18. how have i made any line sound good or big them up i couldnt tell the difference between any of them hence my post and how by me asking is it making them sound better. not asking for hero dogs just real deal hunting dogs and there lines.
  19. heard big things about this bitch meant to be the real deal. atb with them and keep us updated on them jamie
  20. would of though saluki boys would of been able to name few good dogs. most there's are line bred. topic going stale obviously there arnt that many well known dogs.
  21. any way back on topic does anyone else know of any good lines or well known dogs past and present. cheers lads
  22. im not chasing the next big thing and i have my two dogs and wont be needing another for probly another good 6 years unless injury to one of my dogs as mine both are young but when i do finally get another i would much prefere getting it from an established line which has had a consistant amount of good dogs out of it. rather then from a track grey thats only been worked for a year or even a non tested lurcher and classed as tested. so getting the knowledge in now for when time is right to make sure ive got the right dog in for the right task as soon as a dog comes to me it stays and any failu
  23. mate not being funny but word does spread very fast so these truely amazing dogs that are un known couldnt of been that good as word spreads very fast especially in the dog game. so i dont think they would be hidden to long. but i would of thought for a hunting website people would know and want to know of certain lines and good dogs other wise how do you know if the stuff in your kennel was off crap. like both my dogs i know the sire, dam grand sire grand dam sisters, brothers and so on and seen them all work before even considering owning one of the pups. cheers lads
  24. mate there are a few pathetic men who do talk there dogs up but there are some that are truely that good. was watching on you tube dogs geting 3 out of 3 and 4 out of 4 and even 5 out of 5 and can keep up good consistancy think thats prity amazing. out of interest fence hopper how old are you and how long you been in the game. getting to know good lines and good dogs ensure you get a good pup when you buy one but only dogs that have earnt it. hence why i started this post to become familiar with certain lines and dogs. so i myself dont waste my time with owning crap but nice welcome to this si
  25. heard a few people mention the merlin and eve lines where did they start from and who owned them. cheers lads keep it coming.
