  1. simple its not was just commenting on poaching3161 comment about first x's. which started from me saying that most the bed/whip/greys posted were short coated and many didnt seem to follow the bedy look. hope that clears few things up for ya mate
  2. fair enough mate just wanted to know a little more of the better dogs and what made them like that. im prity new to the sport only been lamping for 3 years so just started really.
  3. alright lads, every so often in the dog world big names come up, for match winnings/cup winnings day coursing and lamping dogs and so on. in your opinion who do you think is the dog thats up there as an all time great and why. could also include lines and so on if people wish.
  4. i havnt seen a genuine first cross which is smooth coated either, makes me chuckle when you see the ads in paper and so on claiming first x smooth coated lol. for all lads good with percentages and so on whats mine dam bed/grey x whip sire bull/whip/grey x 1st bed/whip. mines very rough coated like how a first cross would be like almost, cheers lads
  5. what im saying is a few rare people can get a dog to its full potential, like i said its a combination of things and you carnt just rely on breeding and say thats gonna be a great dog as it dosnt work like that. its all about the time and effort an owner puts in to make there dogs something special. a friend has a dog out the same litter as mine and he is by far more experienced then me and it shows in his dog when we work them together. now the breeding is exactly the same but hes brought out the better winning contributes in his due to time and effort and his wealth of working dog knowledge.
  6. my personal opinion is that i would have the dogs in my kennel lol being serious a dog is what you make it and breeding can only go so far. a dog is only as good as the owner.
  7. noticed most of these bed/whip/grey crosses are all short coated that people have posted. not many seem to have thrown the bedlington way on looks any how.
  8. cheers for the info lads, yeah always worried about to much day work before they get on the lamp but i live in the middle of the country side and unfortunatley the only walking i can do is in fields and theres always quarry around but i have to do it as need to keep them fit
  9. yeah i know its still early days and there prob wont be much problem but compared to my other dogs he crazy. hes only got one gear and thats 110% over drive and he'l never tire. he was chasing the swans round the fishing pool the other day the little fecker swimming up and down after them and would he come back, no chance untill he nailed a duck lol. cheers for the advice mate
  10. his recal is brilliant untill hes say 20 yards away from any quarry. once hes on theres no chance of recal he way to game. my worry is in area's of heavy rabbit population that he'l course one then on the way back be on another obviously with experience he'l get there but is there any little tricks to speed the process up cheers mate
  11. just thought id ask few lads ready for winter. ive got a bed x lurcher 11 months old his actual breeding is dam bed/whip/grey sire bull/whip/grey x 1st bed/whip. how do you deal with hunting up with excitment on the lamp. having a bed type worried about the problems of hunting up as during the day hes everywhere a slight sent is. my other lurcher is totally different he is deffinatley sight driven so not concered about him but the bed type im being a little cautious and thought i'd ask now as being terrier based cheers lads/laddies
