  1. a bit late now but you may be able to solve the crosshair problem by adjusting the eye piece lens . i am assuming you have not tryed this . it is esay to do just rotate the eye piece lens . there is often a locking ring screwed up to the bit of metal that holds the lens , losen the ring and the lens rotates sometime they are just stiff some times they are loose with no locking ring. sometime the front lens on some scopes can be moved in and out by losening the locking rings and set for a different range say 30 or 20 yards which is better for air guns ( dont go for this only if you think you know what you are doing ) . it would be nice to know if you do messed with the eye piece lens and the crosshair problem improves .

    It's not just catties.

The banning of archery equipment for hunting was a travesty of justice and prevented it being done wrong by zero.

Hand guns being banned is the same.

Catties are not defined in law so kind of neither illegal or legal.

It's like muzzle loading rifles, fine for target shooting in the eyes of the home office but a no go for hunting with and that is despite there not being any written legislation banning their use for hunting!

Ironically one can use a smooth bore to hunt with! Go figure.

Alot of these laws were/are heavily influenced by the anti hunting groups. Read: very little logic!

thanks that makes a bit more sense now . If it is possible to make sense of non sense . I guess hunting with a cattie if someone took offense they could get you for cruelty .
    Yes.

I wondered what the law is on spears and the such? Throwing spears?

    U.

it may come under stabbing wild life ..not allowed .. but one may be able to argue the need to maintain diversity of cultures in England Scotland and Wales , so today in the diverse country of Britain hunting with spears should be a must . It will create a rich diverse hunting culture mirroring that of the high st takeaway .

  4. if it is a new gun I would shoot a tin of pellets at targets first . To become a good shot with that gun and see how the gun handles , all guns shoot a bit different you have to work out how to hold and shoot each gun .If the gun is not of target or well under powered I would do nothing , just run the gun in shooting it . I have 97k shoots fantastic it has had nothing done to it just shot loads of pellets . I have a bsa lighting . that shot ok for a bsa lighting until the spring broke I tuned it up it now shoots great , but the trigger is still a nightmare . I had a hw 35 from a long time ago when i was young and knew nothing. That gun shot poorly always , i didnt know how poorly untill I fixed all of its issues . I think you should not just rip your gun apart shoot it a bit first see what happens . If you want to spent money to improve your shooting a chronograph is a good thing to have to see what pellets do what speed and power ect . If you what to tune your gun you will need one also to see what is happening .

  5. to get closer to 12 ft lbs . You could mess with just the valve and hammer ect but you will use more co2 . T R Robb has all the information, springs ,valves , barrels ect or did have not looked on his site for years .If you want to start throwing your money and time down a hole thats the way to go . I had a steath years ago trying to get it working well bit of a night mare .In the end I got it to shoot fine but the gun had to be set a 10.5 ft lbs with average pellets .With very very heavy pellets it could still shoot at 12.5 ft lbs at some point of the power curve . After tins and tins of pellets pumping and pumping air into the gun . Letting air out also to test at different pressures . Testing testing and making different parts I worked out how a pcp works .So that was a good thing but never again .

  6. The longer barrel will give more power as a rule . If the valves hammer springs ect are the same on both guns you will be fine as for becoming to powerful .The problem you have co2 has different power at different temperatures . You will have to check your guns power when it is warm when. The cost of pellets , chrono , barrel ,time messing about I would leave your gun as is, if you wont more power get a single shot pcp , or a good qualiy spring gun .

  7. the one or two thing I dont like about my verminator mark 1 that are the same on the mark 2 I guess . is the bottle attachment one crossthread and you dead . Also they should have an addapter for pumping up the bottle like theoben or stealth , joining the bottle to the gun to charge it is a pain and then there is all the air loss when you disconect the bottle .on the mark 1 it is easy to loose the mag if you pull out the bolt spindle thing by accident , something i have done in the dark when you load the next shot your mag flys of .I guess that is fixed on the mark 2 . I have solved the mag problem on my mark 1. I clip an elastic band on the mag bolt handle go around a scope mount and put the other end of the band on the mag bolt handle .i can use the bolt like normal and the elastic keeps it in place if i knock or pull it out by mistake . My trigger is very light not a problem when you know , I am not sure if this is correct but I can find no way to adjust it . The light trigger helps accuracy never had a misfire but it is the lightest trigger I have had on any gun .Other than that the gun is 100% .

  8. as a quick guide as to how much elastic to use . If you shoot your catty and it slaps your hand and gives you pain , you have to much elastic on your catty , or you are shooting to light an ammo . The excess power is slapping your hand by using heavy ammo it will use the excess power .

  9. Ok you can shoot game with a catapult , pigeons rabbits ect with a bb or lead shot ( smooth rock??? ) You cannot shoot a rabbit or pigeon with an arrow from a sling shot . You cannot shoot a rabbit or pigeon with a bow (crossbow) and arrow . This is my question can you shoot a rabbit or a pigeon with the shoot tek rubber powered bow slingshot thing with a BB . if not why not ? can you shoot a rabbit or pigeon with the shoot tek ar 480 using a BB . it has the accuracy of an air gun and all the power needed to do the job . If not why not ? My thought is realy there is no difference between a bow and a catapult .It is just the ammo used . Start the abuse here................

  10. I'm such a weirdo for perfection and consistency that I'm seriously considering buying a steel rule die to do my pouches

thats what i do ..i got 10 of ebay they were crap , the hole in the centre of the pouch was of centre in most of them . If you are selling just pouches and can not get that right what is the piont . so i make my own a bit of experimenting with hole sizes and pouch sizes . Or one could play.. battle field star galactica 10 .. on the new x box 9 for ever instead .

  11. Nooo, I'll try making the Gadder and buy the bands and pouches at least in the short term. I couldn't hit a barn door with an 'andful o' peas the last time so I reckon lots of practice will be the order of the day.......

make sure your fork is smooth fill holes with eposy or something rubdown with fine paper , paint or varnish but have no dents or holes in finished fork . they can eat bands fast .

  12. That's really kind thanks, but right now I don't have even have a catty (Gadder they were called when I was a lad). I think I've found a design I like and so will give it a go at making one, then look at the "add on bits".

making a pouch . the black widow ones are massive not so good I cut some leather 80mm x 20 mm with scissores . the leather will streach

Thanks for the heads up Greyman, I'm getting back into catty's after a short (40 year) interlude ;) I'd looked at his products and was thinking about getting one of his catty's until I read your post.

Any recommendations as to who is a good supplier?

    Cheers OON

.............B and Q .................. buy some ply wood , sand paper , fret saw and rasp ( very course sand paper ??? ) . or find a tree make a fork some how . get some rubber off the net ebay ect . get a piece leather . you will need new bands sooner rather than later learn to make your own .

As it happens I have lots of off cuts of ply in the man cave. Is there a pattern or is it just cut from the eye so to speak?

i looked at catties on the net . i rememered my old ones i made as a kid out off trees . i understand the problems with the black widow style catties for me ( still a good catty ) . watched people shooting them on the net and made my own digsin from the imfo i got made two or three or four untill i was happy . the final one i have is 100% cant post pictures not up to the task . also messed with tubes and flat bands ect ...its the only way

  15. the trick for me to getting a longer band life out of flat bands is tieing the pouch on . put the bands in a jig of some sort . then when i tie the band on with a thin strip of rubber i do three turns close to the pouch quite firm , then i do three turns up the bands loose , then i do three turns close to the pouch tight and tie of the rap .i do this so when you shoot the catapult and the bands expand near the pouch the rap dosent cut into the flat bands . if i get this correct my bands last i long time .roylan orange or green if you want tubes

  16. not sure whats going on with your gun but i will have go . not sure what you mean by bottle screwing into breech . If your gun works like a stealth . a hammer hits open a valve in the bottle to release air to shoot the gun the problem could be 1 alinement of bottle ..causing valve not to openig enough because of friction 2 air leak .. on opening valve not all air gets behind pellet some leaks out . 3 the bottle dosent go into the action enough ..not alowing the valve to open enough because hammer dosent hit with enough force . but if gun works like a theoben or air arms ect you screw on the air bottle and it is just the air supply that holds air now not leaking and the firing valve is somewhere else in the action . 1 the bottle may not screw in as far now so the bottle valve is not open enough ..so when the gun shoots there is not enough air flowing into the gun to get behind the pellet . also you may have dragged some of the chewed up thread into the action now causing some kind of blockedge . did you test the guns power before the thread chew up ?

  17. a basic blackwidow type . the bands are a bit heavy so you need big ammo . they are ok for a novice . eazy to use no hitting forks or hands . , but for accuracy more old style seems the best (for me) . there will be people who can shoot and love blackwidows . I still have mine from late 70s .I can make what ever bans I wont for it now . light heavy flat or tube .
