Try foam insulation pipe (the stuff they use to lag pipes, you can buy lengths of it from B&Q) around the tail about 8" length should do the trick make sure end of tail is about 1" - 2" inside pipe then place a 2" piece of wastepipe over the end to stop him biting the foam and cover with vetwrap. Change it daily and keep the wound clean with salted water to avoid infection. Fit on a buster collar (one big enough to stop the dog bending over backwards to get at tail- you can get one from your Vets for about a fiver). took the terriers 4 a stroll 2day both dissapeard eventually found them in a pipe baying blocked the pipe in n got these as a result :-)

Because there are lots of men with lurchers and not many lurchermen about!!! some its just a fad, many dont know why they have them, for what quarry, get wrong type or breed for their need, dont know how to bring one on, how to train them, dont know about working them, their health, conformation, build, movement, good feet, bad feet. mate if you have had dogs as long as you say the dog deserves another chance take it out on its own and try her again many factors could have contributed to this had a dog once never bothered any livestock but one day fired into a sheep when other dogs got excited gave it another chance turned out best dog ive owned
