    Took my two terriers to my permission today as the land owner had complained about a large increase in rats! Had a good result - made difficult without a smoker. 6 from a barn and two from a pheasant pen tried to attach pics - wont let me

    Been offered the opportunity for ratting at a small shooting syndicate. I was just wondering what people think of these rat smokers, are they worth the money or are home-made versions cheaper and better? Any other advice appreciated! Cheers

    I have baited my monarch trap with trouts heads from last weeks fishing trip. Plenty of rat droppings and scratching near the trap but so far no luck! Do I just need to be patient?

    Cheers mate, Just been out and put slate underneath the trap, as I looked down one of the little fckers was looking up at me as you say......revenge will be sweet!

    Got rats setting up home under my shed!! Set two monarch traps last night, when I checked them today the stinking things had tunnelled beneath the traps and eaten the bait from below them!! Lesson learned

    I have a couple of young terriers that I use for beating on a local pheasant shoot. I would like to start em on rats n rabbits and a bit of general bushing. Would be grateful if somebody would let me join em for a day to let the terriers and me learn the ropes. Possibility of a days beating next season in return Happy to travel reasonable distance from Suth Wst Wales

    There are not many of us However, it's a local shoot...hence no travelling costs... I enjoy beating and working my dogs and the odd brace suits me I'm suprised you get beaters without paying wages........

    The syndicate I belong to costs £500 a year for guns. Beaters do not gey paid, however, they are often given a brace at the end of the day.

    I took my two year old russell beating for the first time this season and he's done pretty well! I have also taken my 7 month russell old along a few times. Ok, there has been one or two accidents....liquidised pheasants but they are doing ok.

    Fair comment! My two are doing great considering it's their first season. I'm just working on getting them to work closer to me....and to improve their recall! They are coming back most times on a whistle now
