  5. i understand what your saying what age you think would be ok would you say 5-6 months or older?? cheers mick Mick I would try a rescue one that somebody may have raised as a pet but realized the dog may be to much for them...... One that has been handled fairly has some manners, but good drive... I'd try for a 10 months or older........
  6. My original Lurchers came down off Hancock bred dogs and both were excellent to handle, turned on timely, and One became exeptional........ I do not know him, I have never been to his yard, he has lurcher pups available most of the time, and considering the bulk of people who got dogs from him and put proper time into them... I would think you would be pleased if you were able to get a young enough pup to start off with.....

  15. Well, I would be embarrassed to tell of my first dig because I didn't really dig... I was heavy into the club stuff back then...... my first true dig was by myself 4 years ago...... before then somebody else always dug. but I can tell you in my first season of hunting alone......the worst feeling is digging just to retrieve your dead dog..... The dogs name was Rupert, and my local farmer had told me where he had been spotting some chucks, so I headed out.... Rupert and Johnny....... the first sett yielded a raccoon, it bolted, but the next sett Rupert entered and started baying, withi
  16. My dog Johnny who is going on Six, and while he's in good shape, and would still run if I cut off two of his legs,....but I notice he's slower to get up these days, When I was in a different area we ran cottontails and Geese, and it wasn't as hard as running coyotes....... last season was his second year doing such, also the ground is very rocky and often heavy with timber...... I'm just kinda wondering and thinking out loud I guess.....
  17. I say maybe try a dog ready to start since you have a terrier ready to start why not give a go with something that will get you out faster? Although I do understand wanting to start off a pup, just thinking your time might be sparse and pups need a fair bit of time.........
