Well there goes earthworth and coursing in America
Autumnbriar replied to Autumnbriar's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Point taken... glad to here your up on things as well. I think the part that was most concerning was the number of hours they were trying to say a dog can be tethered, or kenneled. Yes the laws were originally targeting commercial kennels, but lets us not forget who is behind the govener now... his hand Selected group, Several former HSUS agents. These guys always try with the big net first then they start picking it apart until they have enough to start twisting. -

bshadle, I was aware of the Laws your refering to this, as I used to run coonhounds as well, and several live Coons are used in trials, not the same as night hunts). I think the sports/hunts that have contact between dog and quarry (other that retrieving) is what will be in most danger. I would just like to see more concern and there is just so few people who pay attention. I do believe the anti's are targeting the housing of hunting dogs, as a form of trying to stop hunting, with dogs anyway. -

Question to all you UK folks?
Autumnbriar replied to Autumnbriar's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
I was under the understanding that certain forms of hunting have been stopped. And if is was "Hunting" as you so state then why was it stopped? -
Will John Q Public see terrier work as hunting? Will they see coursing as hunting? Will they dismiss it as hunting? And leave those who hunt alone? Will they tolerate a dog with some hunting scares? Is there a real reason to worry about them linking cock fights and Pit fights to hunting with dogs? I very much disagree with Patrick stating that Terrier work and Coursing is seen as a form of hunting.

As to the notion that terrier work has anything to do with dog fighting, I can only conjur up one word: Nonsense. Those of us who actively hunt with terriers do not bait animals, we do not bet on animals, and we do not fight animals. We hunt, plain and simple, and hunting with terriers is not too much different than any other form of hunting other than the fact that is it less efficient and more humane (there are never any long-distance wounding shots). When quarry is dispatched (and often it is let go unharmed) it is done so with respect for the animal, and it is done quickly and humanely by -

Cson, I believe that a dog with a 16" chest and under can find quarry to hunt, but to fit everywhere requires 15" and under....... -

bshadle, if you have a kennel license in PA, then you would be up on the amendment to the Kennel Codes, they were not trying to pass it as "LAWS" but pass it under the Kennel restrictions, which is the code the Dog Law goes by when regulating kennels....... it was shady and well fought by PiJac and another group. (who I forget of at the moment.... I will see if I can get you some of the articles...... -
Their is really nothing in those dogs that says they can't work but they were developed for showing and as companion dogs.

Well your one up on me as I may know you too but not by the handle your using here. I am fully aware of bills that have been put up and to be honest it's a bit daunting to try and keep up with all that is going on state by state. There are a few groups working on regional area's but surely not all can be covered. My state (PA) is under heavey attack right now as they are trying hard to outlaw tethering. Which for now is on the back burner but surely is not dead. The problem with blanket laws is how they are change , that single paragraph of three sentences can be altered or omitted.... and we -

What bothers me most is that these simple "blanket termed" laws get amended, and it's always their goal to just get their foot in the door. In several states where dog fighting laws where labeled as such, nobody noticed when the term "Dog" was changed to "ANIMAL", it was on such a change that caused the seizure of 95 catchdogs in Alabama. -

Yes, but it's a foot hold, it's another step, hog hunters have aready come under the gun, and it will not be long until they expand this law...... -
and we didn't even care what was happening! THE HSUS which is like your RSPCA, has gotten an anti ANIMAL fighting law, because of the blanket term of ANIMAL, the use of any animal against another can and will be covered under this bill. Any animal that harassas, harms , kills maims another is covered! I have tried and tried to get people to understand what was coming and like typical AMERICANS they just think the freedom country isn't going to take such things away....... say good bye to hunting with dogs! Ask the hogdoggers how protected they feel! May 3, 2007 Pr
