Mine doesn't have a dimmer.

It's the one with the Cree led bulb? I've got one on a lithium 22amp battery. Really rate it, fits in your pocket, battery lasts for ever, no weight to it and gives the impression of a torch or bike light from a distance which I like. Lots of people saying beam not long enough but don't understand that. Can pick up rabbits as far as my blazer light. If your dog runs the beam why do you need to illuminate the countryside in a half mile arc? Even my bitch that's a bit iffy on running the beam it's fine for realistic slips, those who claim to slip rabbits at 500+ yards might be better sourcing li

Leg in each corner, head at the front, arse at the back. Point them at something furry or feathery and hope for the best.

My first boss told me the two things worth spending money on are your bed and your boots, because if you aren't in one your in the other. Wise words I've followed ever since. I have meindl at the moment, danners are good or lowas.

Mouse's Pups Regular Updated Pics
greenman replied to the pikey poacher's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I'm not interested in matching and having digs, but I have an interest in this thread as it's about the pups and how they come on. Lets try not to end up with yet another locked coursing thread and keep this topic on track for the future? -
I can confirm 2 things 1. Pp doesn't own a shirt as he was dressed like that when I picked my pup up. 2. He is sucking it in for the photo. Sorry pp, I now it's harsh, but some of us are built for comfort, not for speed!

Read it over and over again! They are the type I'm looking for but the timing just isn't right. I'm not man enough to run 2 pups together, I like to put all my time into one pup and get it right. I've never had a saluki bred dog before so the pup is a learning curve for me too, I wouldn't do another pup justice at the moment. Plus with working my current bitch and expecting another baby end of January the spring is my window of opportunity. I'm flat out with harvest come mid summer. If nothing comes up next year I'll bide my time and wait till the right one does.

I try to keep an adult dog and get a pup when they are about 4 to bring on to run with them for a year or 2 then replace them one the older dog retires. As is the way sometimes I've got out of sink, my pup was killed in its 2nd year and now the old dog is 6 so will be edging towards the twilight of her working years. I have a cracking pup from p***y poachers litter to bring on but I am on the look out for another next year for a different job. I'm sure there are many lads on here who's litters are never advertised or have friends who don't come on the site. I'm looking for a little inoffe

Bloody hell! I'll keep my Hampshire diamond mines thank you! Interesting thread this seeing the crap we run on! Still if a greyhound can get injured on a track there's not a lot of hope for our pot fillers wherever you run them.
-
There known as Hampshire diamonds round here. There is a lot of land which is nigh on unrunnable if you've any respect for the dog, still accidents happen on 'safe' ground, I've had 2 dogs nearly bleed out whilst lamping being sliced by flints when turning, my vet reckons my bitch looks like a patchwork quilt, they won't get hurt if you leave them in the kennel, but they won't catch much either.

That's interesting, I always keep beta puppy as my dry standby but in reality that's providing unnecessary protein when it's carbs I'm after? So a good quality adult food would be suitable. I try to mix the bread/pasta or rice in because they are sneaky sods and will pick it out. I use frozen mix veg as it's easy to store and use in portions. I also buy the 5 litre cod liver oil cans and keep one in the fridge and the odd tin of fish in oil. I'm not after a world beater and my dogs are fit and healthy but might try mixing a little dry each day and see if it makes a noticeable differen

I feed predominantly raw but still give the odd meal of dry on its own or sometimes mix a little in. Mainly because if I'm away or working late and a neighbour or my wife has to feed the dogs for me it's easier for them. Because I feed minced chicken, game and butchers waste I know what amounts of what I've got that week so it's easier than me explaining how much they need so they get the right balance and accessing the fridge which is in my locked workshop. They get a bit of wholemeal bread/rice/pasta and veg when it's butchers trimmings, but if they are on game carcasses they get feathers, f

A less embarrassing title for this thread would be 'I fell asleep and a small right handed child drew this on my back with its left hand, thank god it's only pen and it will wash off'

Are body grips like the magnums? Got given a few years ago to try when they first came out by a guy from the game conservancy, don't think they ever came out the box, haven't got them now! Might see if I can get hold of a couple, they might work setting them on top of the H irons where they are running. It's a right b*****d. I know where they are, but 90% of the time they can access food and water without going anywhere shootable or trapable and they aren't interested in bait with 2500t of corn in the building. Thanks for the advise, will try the body grips if they'll buy me a couple and keep

Dull light works, I just leave the lights on and the door ajar when I finish work and sneak back in after dark. Usually pick of one or two in an evening like this. I've got wheat bait in the bottom of the pits and elevators but with a couple of thousand tons in store they aren't touching it. They are living behind the H irons between the cladding and the old Yorkshire boarding so they don't actually leave the building. The lurcher killed a few early in the year when I tidied up outside but there is no sign of activity outside the building at the moment. Going to try some jam on the trap plates

I'm not talking big numbers here now, just the last few sneaky fuckers that avoid the traps/baits and don't stick their head out when you have the air rifle in your hand. Any tips will be much appreciated.

I started working full time on the farm we live on and am running the grain store. I inherited a rat problem which I am slowly getting on top of but would appreciate some tips. The building was built in the 60's and has been clad over Yorkshire board giving a living space I can't access. Before harvest when we were empty I cleaned up the best I could and poisoned and trapped hard which really knocked them back. Had the grain store guys fabricate profile sheets for gaps to get it as rat proof as I can. Made sure outside is clear of vegetation so I can see runs and tidied all the crap I was allo

Thanks for that, just unscrewed them as you said. Do you know what size batteries they take, I assume maplin, timpsons or somewhere like that will sell them. The video was up before I'd finished writing my reply! Thanks paid, just watched it, good video and has the battery numbers I need.

I've just brought a second hand mk3 locator with 2 collars off eBay. I used to have a mk1 and assumed the mk3 would be fairly self explanatory like the mk1 but it appears I'm an old fart. How do you put batteries in the collars? Don't want to force any thing apart. They've got deben on one side and under it a circle with 2 arrows or triangles either side. When I finally work out how to fit batteries, do I have to take them in and out like my old collars? I'm sure I read the latest ones have a magnet to switch them on and off. If that's what I've got can you buy spare magnets because I didn't g

The age of the dog is more important than the age of the quarry regarding foxes in my opinion. A fair few years ago I had a well bred bull bitch, my first bull x actually, via a friend of a friend. This chap is well known for his line and had been working his dogs a lot longer than me and I'd always been after edible quarry before. His parting words to me, don't be in a hurry and don't enter her till she's ready. Being younger and knowing more than everyone else I didn't listen and ran her too soon expecting her to take the first fox like a seasoned pro, she got up on it turned it round the fi

Looking good pp, Nelly is coming on a treat, rides on the back of the quad with my old bitch is out at work everyday taking it all in. Not bothered by chainsaws, tractors, decimating the butterfly population, getting good at taking them out the air! -
Next time you have £30 burning a hole in your pocket feel free to send it to me and I'll send you an incomplete piece of information you basically knew back if you like? At least you know you haven't been walking a fish round on a lead now.

Not that bored, only just worked out how to make pictures smaller to put on here. I can't program the timer on the oven let alone a website. Still think its a good idea in theory. Maybe I'll stick to keeping my head down and the standard hunting life posts. Nice dog mate, how much bull is in it, if only you were closer, my dogs faster than your dog, it didn't catch the 5th hare? Jacker, pre ban of course, peddler, anti, here's a photo of some f***ing monstrosity of a dog chewing a camels head off would it make a good cross for a lurcher and are there any breeders over here?

Fed up of sun, another week and most the corn by me will be off, then I want the stubbles ripped and it to piss with rain so I can get out with the dog. Still think I have a point mind!
-
Fair point I guess, I'm pretty opinionated myself but always try to look at the facts first. To be honest riohog I am bored, I'm sat in a drier waiting for the corn to come in. I went to stretch my legs and took the dogs for a piss between loads and came across a dug out bees nest in the hedge. Be prepared for more inane shit till the end of harvest, I've never been on the site so much since I joined till I got this iPhone. Sorry
