  1. Why is it a load of shit? Providing evidence for the argument for the cull?
  2. I consider myself a countrymen through and through, we created the countryside over generations of farming and forestry for food and timber production. Now wether like mine your livelihood depends on it and you live in a rural area, or you live in a town and visit it for whatever recreational pursuit floats your boat, it has to be managed. Most of us have camera phones nowadays so let's all take a photo every time we come across a dug out bumble bees nest, an inside out hedgehog skin or a dug out nest of rabbit kits and email it to the RSPCA or Brian mays badger group. Nothing rude just t
  3. My family have been farm and estate workers for generations. My grandad chose not to have a tv instead they spent the money feeding and clothing my mum and uncle to the best they could afford. My dad slept in a drawer instead of a cot, my aunt shared my grandmas bed and my grandpa slept on a chair in the room that served as living room and dining room. They could of chosen to go without coal to heat the place and had a tv. I've worked as a farm worker, forester, coppice worker and even keeper once. Sometimes self employed and rented a cottage and sometimes like now for a wage with reduced rent
  4. I already had a lithium battery which is nice and light, I liked the idea of this lamp as it fits in a pocket leaving your hands free if you need it. I drilled a small hole in the casing of the clulite for a lanyard so I could hang it round my neck when I wanted both hands free ie opening a gate, gutting or carrying something heavy. If you don't have a lithium battery already you can get the same led bulb torch that runs on batteries I have one on my air rifle which makes sense. The advantage is the big lithium should go dusk till dawn on an led lamp which I do on occasion.
  5. You do deserve a bit of credit for these pups pp, but I'm taking all the credit for what she puts in the freezer next year!
  6. Just put a bit of loo roll over the muzzle to see if any are is coming through without loading again and shot a hole through the paper so what was stuck is out and it's now firing fine. Thank you for quick responses. I really don't know what I did to cause it? Shooting fine again and spot on?
  7. This is my first PCP I brought this rifle of a friend a couple of days ago. Shot fine in his garden, had a few shots at a fence post at home and shooting spot on. It came with a pump, he showed me how to use it and said he pumps it up to just between the red and green on the guage and keeps it about there. Pumped it up as he said, seemed fine. Guage is reading pressure. Had a couple of early morning shots at rabbits out the bedroom window and missed or so I thought? Tried one at the fence post, missed again? Tried one this morning and thought shit, they aren't coming out the barrel? Sounds lik
  8. thanks greenman she is looking well lads this was the pup i was going to keep it was a toss up between her and joe the man travelled a long old way so gave him the choice fair play to him thanks for putting pics up i could not do it off the phone you sent pics to atb pp No such thing as too far to travel for a good dog. Over the years I've lived in Norfolk and driven to Newport and back in a day for a pup and driven from Oxfordshire when i was there to darfield one evening for a pup. I was struck with this bitch the moment she tumbled out the kennel and it was very good of you to let me have h
  9. O Gorman, slater and main. Got 2 surgery's one always open for emergency in newbury and one for office hours in tadley. Phoned up after my old dog sliced a big vein on his leg at 1am. Drove straight there a nurse opened the door for me took him straight through and vet was waiting to patch him up. They understand a working dog and one vet said to me they would rather see a fit working dog with an injury caused doing what it was bred for than treating obese pets.
  10. Where abouts roughly? I travel about 8 miles past a few other practices to my vets for jabs and anything I'm not happy treating myself and they are very understanding with working dogs but always handy to know of another goodun.
  11. More recent one, bloody dog always looks miserable when you try to take a photo!
  12. Picture of Nelly from a few weeks ago, will try to take some new ones and get them up.
  13. No good at uploading photos I'm afraid pp, I've sent you a couple of Nelly if you don't mind putting them up for me.
  14. I don't know pp personally and I'm not a day walker the reason I picked one of these pups is because I was after something along these lines never had anything with saluki in before and I liked the look of the pups how they were reared and his enthusiasm for his dogs showed through the fact he put on pictures every 30 minutes for the past 3 months! I have to say wasn't disappointed pp is a real nice chap with a passion for what he does. I am genuinely impressed with this pup. One thing I've really noticed is its strike, will pick up and play with a bit of bone or a bit of rope throw it tear of
  15. Coincidence then! Pup is coming on really well pp. out at work everyday getting used to riding about on the quad. Real biddable to so far recall, heel work. Letting her stretch her legs behind the farm yesterday, all of a sudden she stops head goes up sniffing the air and dives onto a thick hedge like a spaniel. Next thing there's a young pup running a this years roe fawn like a pair of mini me's. Proper Fenton moment, luckily it disappeared into standing corn. How old are they now, bugger me the little bitch has some drive if she sees something she fancies chasing.
  16. Funny you say that. I have a bitch from this litter and was the noisiest pup I've ever had. Took 3 days before she settled down. I live on a farm but had to take a note to the other cottages explaining what the noise was. First night she howled or screamed best part of the night. Absolutely cracking pup coming on a treat comes to work everyday with me looking forward to seeing how they all turn out.
  17. 'Good lifers' are the killer round here. Between the m3 and m4 plus a direct line to Waterloo. The majority of the old farm houses have been sold with about 5 acres. Hubby commutes and the wifey at have a veg plot and a few hens, it's what one does in the country. That's 1/10 acre accounted for, maybe a pony and the rest? Well we'll buy an old tractor and top good grazing or land that could be growing veg like a lawn (well we won't we'll pay our man to do it).My grandad used to run 3 allotments and kept us all in veg. Now there is a waiting list as long as your arm yet you walk through the all
  18. No never tried. Most the coppice I cut is over stood hazel. Before the full time job i got paid day rate or the subsidy for the cutting, any big stuff I had for charcoal or my own firewood. Kept back stakes and binders for my hedging. Occasionally sell a few bean or pea sticks. Trouble is I needed the steady cash flow, making the products does add value but takes time and you don't see the return tll they are sold. Now I have a 9 till 5 job but they let me have all the coppice still for charcoal and the like to do at weekends. Knocked up a few hurdles and plant supports for myself, just hobby
  19. I've come pretty close but you have to change your way of thinking a lot. When my daughter was born I was working as a woods men coppicing, hedgelaying, charcoal, selling bits and prices, gardening farm work anything to pay our way. Made the decision I would work to pay the rent and bills but be at home much as I could with littlun and my wife. Had a few sheep of a farm in exchange for labour and got some grazing in exchange for lamb. Home killed a few for myself sent the rest to slaughter and sold a few to cover my costs of keep. Also killed a few pigs for others and butchered those for peopl
  20. I agree, haven't got or ever had a pot to piss in. I'm not complaining, You don't have to worry about keeping hold of something you never had! I'm the 5th generation of my family in this area all been farm labourers and foresters. Unfortunately being down south and on a direct line to Waterloo house prices and cost of living in the countryside is high. Made my living coppicing, hedge laying, charcoal and forestry. Need to live on the land but rent on our cottage nearly £950 month for 2 up 2 down. I'm lucky did a lot of work on the estate and they offered me a job with the house on a reduced re
  21. Big thank you to pp for your hospitality today. Nice to meet a real genuine dog man. Pup slept all the way back. Had a good belly full of food and settling into the kennel. I'm afraid I've changed the bitches name, with those ears could only be 'Nelly'. Will keep in touch how she gets on. G was keen on your kind offer so may well see you in the season.
  22. Could you tell me where you are roughly please.
  23. can't beat lardy cake, got to be at the bakery early so its still warm or second choice home made chinese wedding cake.
  24. i used to run a few snares when i was younger and fancy running a few again. i always used a split hazel tealer for my wires. some of the pictures i've seen it looks like some sort of specially designed wire tealer? could someone put up some pictures of these for me and an explaination how they work? if they are better than the old style i'd use them as they look less bulky to carry a lot of. also cold you tell me where i can get some from? any help appreciated.
