  1. Well done Paulk and dog. My god that dog of yours looks the spitting image of my Nip I lost as a road casualty. What is the breeding.
  2. The Working Terrier A working terrier is a small type of dog which pursues its quarry into the earth. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the name dates back to at least 1440, derived from early modern French terrier - from the medieval Latin terrarius from the Latin terra (earth). With the growth of popularity of fox-hunting in Britain in the 18th and 19th centuries, terriers were extensively bred to follow the red fox, and also the Eurasian badger, into its underground burrow, referred to as "terrier work" and "going to ground". The purpose of the terrier is that it locate th

  4. Yesterday at tea time saw me going to the local pet shop for more dog food, thought i`d take the experienced bitch and young bitch to call at a disused farm on the way back to do a bit of ratting. This is the 3rd time the young bitch has been out. First time out she felt out of place and in the way and felt uneasy with the machine and bodies flying about all over the place. Second time saw her running around like everybody else but didnt know why. This time round the penny had dropped as she bent over backwards to get to her rats. Although we missed more than we caught it didnt matter as it wa
  5. Well done Masher, guys and dogs, did Vinnie have a go? Edited to say, Ooops, course he did, photos came through after I posted this

  7. Nice stamp Dave. Is it a shattered plummer or heavily marked JRT, either way hope it works well for you. Dillan
  8. Got mine today too, it was only a matter of time. Went there 2 yrs ago to show my plummers. Had to leave them in car in their boxes in car park till show time. Wasnt happy with that so never went to next invitation. May help if everyone called organisers and thank them for invitation but not in position to show dogs as all dogs are docked after ban. This would in effect boycott the terrier shows. May prompt some alternative arrangements.
  9. Couldnt wait to share some good news with ya. At long last I have just secured some permission right on my door step literally 2 fields away. Had a look with couple of young terriers for last hour of daylight. Between them they nailed 8 huge rats ontop, didnt even bother with smoker. Sorry no photos forgot camera. But will be back there shortly to have a proper session. What made it even better was that the farmer has just invested in a load of rearing pens and sheds etc to put in fields at back of farm. Cant wait. About time too, all my permissions are at least half hour drives.
  10. Hi Rik Could you put up a pic, havnt seen them since couple weeks old
  11. Get yourself a Plummer. Good allrounder for bushing, ratting, earthwork and retrieving see topics on here
  12. Would his name happen to be Tom from Ebberston
  13. Know what you mean Alli, they should know better. Gotta a call from a young lad a couple of months ago wanting jabs for his terrier having had a session with charlie. It didnt take me long to come across the earth he had dug, to my horror it was the same earth my terriers had bolts over the years, it was a right mess, holes dropped in everywhere not even backfilled an one dead exposed fox in one of them. The young man in question is on this site regularly. Take note. For god sake, if your gonna do it, do it properley, act in a proffesional manner and within the law. Needless to say that earth
  14. Got a lurcher tattoo on my back.... Chases hairs down my arse
  15. Same dog and bitch in there infancy on a walk on the outskirts of a nature reserve. At the back of the pit on a public footpath, 25 yrds infront of me two ducks got up, on looking up to my horror wih my hands clasped to my head I witnessed both dogs retrieving a duckling apiece, getting down on my knees I calmly coaxed them to give to hand, I was amazed to see that both ducklings were unharmed. Parents still circling above I got our lass to take the dogs further up the path whilst I replaced the ducklings in the same area on the grass verge in hope the parents would return, which Im sure they
  16. Just read Spiderpigs post and a good one at that. So as not to hijack his post I thought I`d start a new one and share an experience or two myself. Eight years ago I bought my first 2 Plummers, male and female. At just a few months old they were bushing on a regular route I take for rabbits, when one day my dog ran across the field. At first glance as it was some distance away I saw him chasing a red dog. I looked up the public footpath for the owner but nowhere to be seen. I looked back across the field to witness the red dog put the breaks on, about turn and started chasing my dog back towa
  17. Hi Guys I live 10 mins away and its not snowing here. Through my experience Sunday and Mondays seem to be the better of the 4 days in show terms and weather being sunny intervals with light scattered showers. Hope this helps Dillan
  18. Hi SB Initially I tried water pistol , then hose pipe , shouted at them , then tried the `look` , sheets of ply between runs , 4 antibark collars worked to a degree but they got sore around neck , had a sprinkler system fitted which activated on sound, worked to a degree till they worked out it just sprayed a 4ft diameter so stuck to the corners to bark . Invested in 4 ultra sonic antibark gizmos with little effect, no wonder they were meant for internal use only . Im now on an external ultra sonic antibark system though im still not convinced it has made much diference . A
