Last week my 2 Plummers pushed out a vixen and dog fox 25 yrds from my car out of thick cover after we walked about a mile and back along the bank to check an earth, no wonder there was nothing in it, Doh Any way they lost sight of them and time was getting on, so left for another day. Yesterday saw me returning with my 2 young bitches and young dog. As I aproached the earth I could hear one of the bitches yappin when fox bolted after some time hunting up terriers lost it. They more than made up for it when they marked up a 2 holer 8ft apart. Digging on with the help of me the dogs nailed

Simply phone all your vets in your vicinity to find out whether they do tail docking. Thats what I did and found one 30miles away and because they were the only ones out of about a dozen who do it they now have my custom for any other problems. You need to show that they are working dogs and on the list as a working breed. Taking a gun licence and/or permission slips to say you carry out pest control for landowners. They dock the tails and give you a certificate for each pup to confirm they have been docked legally by a vet. When you part company with each pup, make sure you give the new owner

Nice strong stamp, it is clear they do the biz. I always say as long as the dog is doing what you want it to do, does not matter what colour it is, after all I doubt very much any vermin is going to turn round and think `oh its all right its only a red Plummer` or `sh#t its a white lakie x` The colour doesnt make the slightest difference, thats not the point, the white dog was from S.Wilkinsosns line, the colour comes from the Russell types of Arthur Heinamann, put into this strain in the 1920's,no further Russell blood was added as far as i know. The dog was 100% you entered him you had t

Anybody Mmmmmmm Maybe a gap in the market then I've just come back from a w/e in Scotland. The keeper there caters for Deer stalking, ferreting, and all the types of shooting you like. If you check the websites out you can normally contact them by e-mail or phone and ask the question. rgds Swampy och aye the nooning Cheers Swampy

Fell into this one dint I. Different judges have different opinions even I respect that as I myself have won red rossettes at one show and with the same dog didn`t get a sniff at another. I have on many occasions approached the judge after the show regardless whether I got a place or not and asked the same questions as you`ve asked and ivariably get different answers and opinions. Horses for courses as they say. All i`ll say is regardless of which class is infront of me I would pick the one that looks healthy and closest to the standards and the one I would put under my arm and take home wit

I agree with above. I had a Plummer which many in the Plummer world would agree it was a stunning dog, however I was not happy with its hunting ability, at 2yr old I considered giving it to a pet home, ironically it got killed hunting up a deer that run up along a motorway. Have myself judged the odd show in the past and have to bare in mind it is a working show, so scars etc are overlooked, it just tells me it has mixed abit. I feel its not just a case of a terrier looking good but it has to meet the standards as they are there for a reason. If the conformation is wrong you wont get the best

I`m lead to belive they are Goldie lines. Some say they are in fact not white lakies as there is no such thing, but rough coated bull x jack russels. Maybe someone can enlighten us. They did exist mate ive had one. Would they be classed as a throwback then from the past when the russel or bull was mixed in. Not been funny, genuine intrest. Throwbacks mate, russell blood was introduced into some strains of Lakeland in the 1920's,they dont breed true so i doubt your mates dogs are genuine, mine never threw a white pup, although his son did,but only when i used him over a bitch

Looks the spitting immage of a litter I have just bred, Plummer x Red Fell. Four turned out like this and one complete red.

Have a mate who breeds them close to me, he has a kennel full of them. Nice looking dogs, does well at shows and works them hard, I know I have dug to them on many occasions. Good finders, can be a little strong headed and once they have a hold theres no letting go. Have a few photos on my phone, been meaning to get a lead to download to computer for sometime now as my memory is full, try to do it soon and send you some.

Heres one for you, seen many advertisements in magazines etc, advertising weekend breaks or weeks for fishing, grouse and pheasant shooting. Would anybody know where these breaks would include, ferreting, snaring, longnetting, shooting clay/vermin,shotgun, air gunning, ratting and earthwork with terriers or any other forms of pest control etc, even if it meant teach in sessions. I know its a long shot and all this is available on my doorstep to a degree, but I would like to get half a dozen mates together, live in a lodge for a week, ring the changes during the day cook what we catch (apart fr

Forget the ratattack smoker, does spit out a lot of dense smoke but gets on your chest, does blow back and sets vegetation on fire if you pump too much oil out and is earyly quiet. I feel that engine noise and vibration helps to bolt rats aswell as smoke and fumes. Strimmers are good, when converting use the handle on the shaft and fix to engine, easier to carry around. Chainsaw engines are good, a bit more umphh, if you can get hold of a reliable one, can be tempremental. Stihl saw engine has a lot of humphh, a little heavy perhaps and can be tw#ts to start. Still experimenting with leaf blow

Nice one, well done

Problem is CB is should the new owners be challenged by rspca etc the first and second question they will ask will be have you a docking certificate to prove it has been carried out by a vet and where did the dog come from which will inturn make the breeder liable to prosecution if they carried out the docking themselves.
-
Yes he is corect in that you have to prove that it is going to be a working dog. Normally this is achieved by showing your gun licence or permission slips signed by land owners to carry out pest control. ATB

No Lucy, she didn`t make it this time, if she had been there I`m sure she would have nailed the only 3 escapes.
