  1. yes mate it is and its a chew on remembering to take it out and defrost it and depending on supplier it can be messy (Blood content) But the benefits are excellent = less poo (A lot less),good teeth, good condition
  2. can they not descend the testicle surgically instead of removing it? Its quite a common op in kids so why do they need the dogs knackers off?
  3. raw food most of the time but occasionally chappie
  4. Don't know any over there but Roy Bebbington of Gonegos kennels in North Yorkshire has some of the best dogs in the country. A real gent and a very unusual character
  5. BRILLIANT!!He must be so relieved! How did he get her back?
  6. if you want a dog to go through cover then a terrier is better than a spaniel, if you want a dog to retrieve from cover then a spaniel is better than a terrier. All of the gundogs can be trained to sit still etc. I have a vizsla which is a pointing breed who will not work cover like a spaniel but then he doesn't need too he comes on point if anything is in the brambles if there isn't anything there he wont bother its all about horses for courses. spaniels are generally happy little dogs who need a firm hand (Not brutal)labs can be more laid back but ive seen plenty of metal labs as well.
  7. Just control work I had him out the weekend before shooting rabbits he did well. We are on the moor again on Tuesday and we will do a bit of rough shooting next weekend
  8. Thanks Dave how's the bitch doing? Just trying to give him as much experience I can without pressurising him
  9. Thanks Wideboy, yes I am chuffed to bits really he has just really started coming into his own and is showing a lot of promise I hope to get a couple of trials and a spring pointing test done next year then he will just return to being a normal working dog.
  10. Thanks Hily He will do the job of that I have no doubt but I'm taking my time with him as they mature slowly, he has had a few days on the grouse and a couple of days rough shooting but it would be madness to take him on a syndicate shoot until he is older and is 100%. He is just too fast and covers too much ground to let loose and not have full control
  11. Some photos of last Sundays rabbit training session. The pup worked well still not 100% but he is coming on a bit more practice and he will be ok.
  12. Its just shows how easy it is to set a dog back just through lack of thought. Sickener for you Kev
  13. Gundog Training: The 10 Commandments A badly behaved dog may make for some good after-dinner stories but will leave you red-faced in the field. Janet Menzies consults the professionals to bring you top tips for basic obedience. Many brave dog handlers suffered to bring you these tips, so don't take them lightly. If they appear blindingly obvious, that's because they are - but what is even more obvious to everybody watching you and your dog falling out and falling apart, is that you are not doing them. Do them today and every day, and you will have a better dog. 1. Be Masterful
  14. Don't be offended Minkenry a lot of people on here like to argue and take the piss and the language can be a bit savage at times but that's just how it is. Thank f**k you haven't been on the lurcher forum yet or they would have a hit man after you Ive never seen a mink but have seen loads of footprints near rivers etc, as for the rest about them destroying wildlife I would say the millions of cats we have in this country do far more damage but mink should be eradicated as an alien species.
  15. if it will drop to whistle you will have the recall cracked in no time
  16. What do you do when she takes off?
  17. Free to good home this years youngsters albino hob, polecat hob and an albino jill. Near bishop Auckland in co Durham. The kits have been handled and are from working stock my number is 07974570039
  18. It isn't true Ruby, I work a labradoodle dog and I love labs I fancied an HPR this time round as I have access to train and work on a grouse moor and I want to trial this young vizsla but when the old dog eventually goes he will be replaced with a lab or another doodle (If the lab bitch is a working lab)
  19. My first day on the moor this year was the 27th due to a knee op on the 13th (Our first day was the 19th).I was up at 1.30am couldn't sleep I would do it for nowt I love it that much great crack with a good squad of people of all ages from 14 to 75. My old dog loves it more than me he is like a puppy jumping about as soon as the walking stick comes out. My son beats in the line and I work on the flank, this year my young viszla joined me on the low moor on the 28th and he was really steady I was delighted we have done a few days since and have a few more to do. We have had an invite for t
  20. its a no brainer really with no grouse on the moor what have you got?
  21. Labs take ages to get right, its important to get them away from the fireplace now and again and get its head out of the feed bag.I have seen them used successfully on shoot trailers to give a bit weight to the rear axel on soft ground
  22. Depends on your dog and if it can put up with the noise and distraction without causing havoc if it is off lead. On lead all you have to worry about is if the dog can put up with the sound of shot and if it will be quiet if its kept at heel all day. Spaniels are more up for anything than some breeds but they can still be overfaced by too much noise if they are too young. 18 months is a good age if they are steady but I know loads of people who take them earlier than that just not convinced its a good idea
  23. I use a Yeoman for just about everything (Apart from Ducks and geese),very reliable light weight gun it doesn't eject which is a down side especially if you have sausage fingers. A really nice one will set you back £200 - £300
  24. My missus has her pet dogs and I have my pet dogs. We all live in harmony as long as I do what im told
