Good allrounder OR One trick poney??
aisling3 replied to supersam's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
yes i hunt rabbits as my main quarry but not just lampin but ferreting too, i dont lamp hare,s do you???? yes both dogs have taken hare and fox during the day and took a few fox on the lamp also.. have done a bit of ratting with them too just to mix it up a bit. i do think the ultimate test for a dog is a hare but its not the only test that the dog should pass to claim one has a good dog is what im trying to say.. im not knocking your dog as for a young dog its doing well for ya. that bitch sounds a good un but since you havent seen many hare dogs that dont say much. mine have taken all -

i havnt seen many topics of irish lads huntin hares?????????of course everyone wud like an all rounder,so i voted for that, but you hunt rabbits as your number 1 daytime quarry, true????then at night you lamp rabbits hares and killed 1 fox in your last 4 years of huntin, true?????imho i think a hare is the ultimate test daytime for a dog, which you have said yourself, true????will your dogs kill daytime consistently or ever,no so you cant say you have allrounders i have seen one of the best daytime hare bitch kill fox day and night and she picked 14 rabbits on her first and only night on lamp a -
So he is basicaly a big pet that you run now and again ? I'll ask again; how is he bred ? I am realy interested. Cheers. yup,Rooney is a big pet that will kill most game now and again,he is first cross deer x grey mate and WHAT a companion, for such a placid dog he mangled a labrador that tried to attack me,so hes stayin for life, end of,this dog has never give me hassle(pet wise)but when it comes to the huntin game,he is always injured, mostly feet,so now he is semi retired by the fire, the big bollocks is lyin by the fire as we speak
-
How old is he; how is he bred ? If he is "still picking bunnies up at his ease", why retire him ? Cheers. hi mate,he will be 4 this coming september, he cant catch my number 1 quarry, bunnies aint my number 1 quarry, even tho he has killed 4 the past 2 days out moochin,i meant semi retired,i will keep him to do some local golf course lampin, where he killed a few bunnies and a fox 4 weeks ago,and just to keep him happy, plus to feed the fecker coz he eats like a lion
-
i have a deer x grey 1st cross,he is 31 1/2tts and as he hasnt been run over a month,he is 44kgs=96.8lbs,and can still pick bunnies at his ease on the lamp he has feet like a crocidile and is always injured, but theres something about him i LIKE,when my new pup comes im gona retire him and keep him as a pet,his running during the winter weight is 40 kgs=88lbs
-
that was a dropped hare imho, irish hares are just as hard to catch as the MIGHTY english brown hare how can you compare a rodent size blue hare to the irish hare, you are talkin out of your bung hole did you catch these several durin the summer???????

hi lads, imho i cant see bull x kill long ears daytime, they just dont have the lung, but then again if the hare is surprised(which is very unlikely)then maybe, just maybe they will kill one my dead brothers dog cud just about kill hares on the lamp(no boast really) then daytime was useless
-

you have a mate!!! pull my other leg well ask hang and bang on here he will set ya straight as im finished arguing with you. i have alot more mates than you think kid.im arguing with know one,you said you have a pup from irish ladies line dam rosie x sire rua???? and the guy that pm'd you,who owned them told you that rua is dead for 5 years, maybe he came back from the dead to be the sire of your pup..who cares, once murph is pickin bunnies for you thats the main thing, the morale of the story is that hang and bang is full of sh1t ross if you wanna see some real irish lady dogs run,the g
