  1. i'm not going deliberately to catch rabbits just taking her for a walk she just brings 1 back to me every now and then
  2. i mean when it is a full moon my dog catches stuff with out the aid of a light she just uses the moonlight.
  3. i dont take the light when the moon is up just have a mooch
  4. thanks for the replies! i dont seem to struggle with my dog hunting up when i'm out with the light she knows that when bring that out the house with me she doesnt need to hunt up. it probably helps that i live in the country side and walk the fields every night exercising me dogs.
  5. thought this could be an intresting thread, obviously not! do i get very few replys or none at all because i dont go on every thread and say nice dog mate and kiss everyones ass?
  6. just wondering if anyone has a dog that catches rabbits and maybe other stuff when your out walking when the moon is up? my dog catches the odd rabbit and even had a hare once(early october) when the moon is full, not had anything in a grazed grass field but she seems to get them in stubble or rough set aside. if you have a dog that catches stuff like this what cross is it? also wondered wether that would make a difference ie better nose or more brain? or are all crosses capable of this? my dog is a half cross collie greyhound. cheers pete
  7. nice 1! me mate has a deerhound x greyhound only 16mth old doing things just like that. got such a high prey drive she dont wanna go home.
  8. i suppose it depends on what you want to use it for? just rabbits lamped or ferreted then whippet cross but if you had anything bigger in mind then greyhound would make sense to end up with a bigish dog. i'm no expert mind just going through it as if i were going to get one.
  9. you have done all you can mate just let the dogs out and whatever happens happens! Me dad got took to court by our old nieghbours for our dogs killing there cat but the magistrate just laughed and said cats chase mice dogs chase cats its just nature! next case please!!!!
  10. i have 2 hens in an ark on my back garden a leghorn exchequer and a cross breed bantam both lay an egg a day and the kids love feeding them and collecting and eating the eggs! well worth the cost of the corn they eat.
  11. have shot 8 young rooks in past couple of days just wondered if anyone had a good recipe so i could eat um!
  12. just wondered if anyone on here had had an experience like this? i have a 2 and half yr old lurcher bitch and about a year ago i got a jack russel puppy [bitch] when the pup was big enough [14 weeks] i kenneled her outside with the lurcher, the lurcher started to let the puppy suckle and started to lactate. i took her to the vets and they said to split them up before the lurcher had a phantom pregnancy i did this but my lurcher bitch still has'nt had a season since. do you think she ever will? or am i just being inpatient? i would like to breed from her but not this year as i think she should
  13. get your mate to feed raw, i have changed over after reading the posts on here and my dogs a lurcher and a terrier have never looked better. i live in dorset and my local butcher still gets whole carcasses he does bags of pet mince which is all his scraps minced offal and everything for 45p a pound and he gives me bones for free cos he'd have to pay to get rid of them.
  14. just to add my thoughts which are pretty much the same if you have a dog that you run on everything that gets up in front of it then you should do a mixture of the above training that way it should be ready for anything
  15. just wondering if its ok to run a bitch while shes in season?
  16. i too have a half cross bitch from hancock she is 14 month old and sounds like a mixture of both yours has hunted from the 1st day i had her. takes rabbits on the lamp with ease and caught her 1st daytime hare at the weekend havent pushed her yet so dont know how many she could catch in 1 night but cant wait to find out! as for the conditions of his kennels i didnt think they were any worse than the hunt kennels i have seen. as for breeding worker to worker there is no more guarentee that they will be good! a crap dog is usually down to the owner not breeder!
  17. excellent mate cant wait to be able to take my boy with me, hes only 2 but he loves the dog and ferrets already
  18. hi foxman did you take your pup out at the weekend? took mine out for a quick shine she had another 1 still dont strike quick enough tho she runs them for a long time before she picks them up.
