  1. hi mark interesting point as we spoke about on the phone books and dvds are great but its people who do it all the time thats were the learning is to be cant wait till our wee outing have note book and pencil sharpened at both ends however if any one does know of any good books to read then there are always the horrible night or when the missus takes the hump to sit and read them i myself like the old poacher books you pick up wee tips from days bygone

  3. when the sheep on north ronaldsay were grazing the grass too much they pushed them onto the shore line and built walls hence the reason north ronaldsay sheep can live on sea weed. Control the rabbits with gun and ferret, put a boat on and give us the details shut the island off for the week end and put the barbeque's on and i am sure there will be a list of us who would go for a wee hunting life meet up week end
  4. thanks guys have a week end planned with mark really looking forward to it am up for any thing thinking of doing my dsc1 next year so looking for you old hands to show me the ropes you can learn some things from books and dvds but the true passion i feel is from the people who do it and its that what i want to learn cant offer much money wise but will guaranty a bottle of whatever you drink and full attention

  9. thanks for the advice have scrubbed the barrel with a .177 cleaning kit and there is no fowling in the barrel well none that i can see used a carbon solvent in the barrel wire brush few times nylon brush few times woolen brush then swabbed with flannelets shot it inch and a half group 10 rounds 100 yards so its good enough for me will keep it clean though thanks all is there any thing i can do to re shoot in the barrel also how many .17hmr owners actually did it like you said think its a bit too much to fire 1 clean and so on and so on i have a range at the top of a hill and its blooming cold

  15. hi mate sounds like the gun does not fit you look in the mirror and quickly put it to your sholder as if you were going to shoot some thing if it does not come into aim with out movement then it does not fit you ALSO YOU MAY BE BRACING FOR THE SHOT AND THIS WILL PUT YOU OFF WHAT CARTRIDGES ARE YOU USING WHAT SIZE LOAD YOU MAY ALSO BE JERKING THE TRIGGER
  16. again thank you all will take in every thing you have all said
  17. I don't use a copper solvent, any suggestions on what to use. I have no bore snake, i use fishing gut doubled, and then put flannelet in the join to pull the barrel through. I have got rods, with wire nylon and soft attachments, so will use them from now on. I was going to buy a bore snake but dont think i will bother. I really appreciate all comment and advice thank you very much. :notworthy:
  18. right chaps barell scrubbed at what range do you zero at i have been zeroing at 100 yards but i only have a 8x42 scope and have to walk up after every 5 rounds to see where i am hitting was thinking about zeroing at 50 then giving it 1 click down for 100 any thoughts also what would be a good replacment for my nikko stirling 8x42 gold crown budget of say 100 maybe 150 if i get the old scope sold
