  1. Who keeps coming out with this claptrap about rangers not being any good off road, they are equally as capable as any four wheel drive pick-up truck. They all share a transfer box which splits power 50/50. You then have a limited slip diff on the back. This system is common across all the trucks on the market nowadays apart from some have started adding diff locks on the back now but for 5 grand you won't get one of those. I would actually say that with a lighter kerb weight and smaller size than both the new hilux and navara that rangers are better off road.
  2. ive always found landrovers are heavy on juice, the older shape l200's are geared so low they rev hard all the time and drink juice, i found the ford ranger to be much better on fuel as are the nissans but they got a reputation for blowing up!
  3. All the modern pickups use virtually the same 4 wheel drive set up and are all fairly similar weight and size so they will all be around the same off road. decent tyres and they will go anywhere that the majority of us would like to get. I had a mark 1 ranger and took that to 180,000 miles then sold it and got a mark 3 wildtrak 3.0 litre manual, goes well, good on juice just waiting for the crappy road tyres to wear out and then ill get some mud terrains.
  4. ive had mixed dealings with Milner if im honest, i bought a clutch and that was spot on did about 80000 and still felt like new when i sold the vehicle, but i bought some bearings and they were just cheap chinese crap, check where theyre manufactured before you place your order mate
  5. i can almost guarantee that this one has been said but i will say it anyway as i cant be bothered to sift through 6 pages to find out if im duplicating........ Gordon Brown Id love to smash his face in then get 5 big gay black blokes to group f**k him and post the resultant footage on you-tube. when thats done Blair would get the same.
  6. ive got the vierzonord mate, superb wellies. i get a new pair every couple of seasons but that is only normally due to b*****d barbed wire. theyre tough rubber, hard wearing, grippy, warm. i cant recommend them highly enough and they havent got any silly zips to get mangled
  7. Good job im not in Australia then isnt it. My statement stands, any dog attacked my dog or me it would get beaten to death there and then or shot later, end of convo. Whats the difference between Australia and a yoghurt??? If you leave a yoghurt on its own for a while it would develop a culture.
  8. if any dog attacked mine like that i would shoot it regardless of breed, value or its owners.
  9. Different strokes for different folks is the most appropriate saying i can muster! Like i said before, if i were purely off roading then defender would definately be my no. one choice. Mitsubishis are shit, agreed. The new rangers are leaps and bounds ahead of the older mark ones and twos. I was going to get a hilux but i just cannot get along with that new shape, they just dont seem like a hilux should.
  10. mine starts fine and never misses a beat once its warmed up, i had some trouble with it conking out the other day so had the carb off, cleaned it up, drained the tank out and cleaned it up. been fine since then. im sure some of the other quads are brilliant and probably better but this little klf never gets stuck got bags of power and is just the right size, any bigger and id have to take the door frame out of the shed i keep it in to get it in. lol
  11. Common knowledge that they are shite on fuel? Have you any evidence to back this up? I've owned landrovers (defender, series 3 and discovery) an old range rover, toyota hilux, mitsubishi shogun and l200 and i had a new navara on loan for a little while so i know a bit about trucks too. Out of all of the above the ranger is the best on fuel, fact. Granted they have a turning circle of a supertanker but if you look at figures the turning circle is actually tighter than the new 110. Have you worked out what any of your landrovers do to the gallon? Because i did, Scotland and back in a 110 td5 man
  12. youre talking rubbish mate and no im not going to start spouting about jeremy clarkson and his old hilux that started after getting dunked in the sea. I have a ford ranger and find it very comfortable on road, good on fuel (if you get more than 25 to the gallon from any landrover then you are a liar) and perfectly competent off road for what the vast majority will use them for, granted it isn't as good off road as a defender but as the chap says if he is going to do long journeys then i could think of no worse a vehicle to be contemplating that in than a defender. I won't just slag landrovers
  13. I couldnt agree more, it was a sensible thing to do i thought in that very uncommon situation so that is why i chose to do it, with hindsight i could have shot gunned it no problem really but the air rifle did the job and no neighbours were any the wiser, not that they would have minded i suppose. i'd sooner have them at 100 yards with my .243 any day of the week.
  14. if your going to do motorway miles then get a jap pick up, ford ranger or toyota hilux, your spine will thank you for it, so will your bank balance
  15. I don't have open ticket unfortunately. I didnt use the shotgun also because of noise and footpath
  16. Under normal circumstances i would never advocate using an air rifle, but i did on this occasion as the .243 out the window would be highly illegal and dangerous as would the shotgun. The fox was barely moving it was that ill, the air rifle in question is an air arms pcp and is fac so it did the job.
  17. I did shoot a fox in the back garden that was extremely mange infested with my air rifle (air arms s410 .22) It was from an upstairs window and the range was less than 15 yards, at that distance i put the pellet straight through its eye ball and it dropped like a stone.
  18. Thanks very much for the advice, ill give them ago. All the Best, Luke
  19. I'm probably only repeating whats been said before but .243 is a great allrounder and is relatively cheap to feed with factory rounds (i don't have the time nor the inclination to homeload but hats off to you guys who do). As has been said it will cover all eventualities and can be used on deer (we have a burgeoning population of fallow and roe on my shoot). I have recently acquired a howa 1500 with stainless varmint barrel with a t8 mod and 3-9x50 burris scope and am more than impressed with it, although i have only killed some paper and a couple of crows with it so far at 150 yards i get it
  20. did you get your clutch done mate?
  21. discovery anyday of the week, capable off road, comfortable, look good and for 5 grand you'll get a nice td5. also when they go wrong you can get the bits from tescos. I wouldn't touch a range rover at that money, for 5 grand all youll be buying is someone elses problems
  22. i got a klf 300 4x4 and its superb, regularly carries 3 or more all day following the hunt and gets anywhere when out lamping. I got some seriously knobbly tyres for it couple that with low range and no matter what you point it at, aslong as you don't flip it then you are going up it without doubt.
  23. yeah you will have to disconnect the front prop but you shouldn't have to totally get it out the way like i would with the rear as obviously the gearbox comes backwards when you remove it. a motor factor clutch should be fine so long as its not a cheap chinese copy. Toyota parts are expensive mate thats just a fact of life. while you're in there get a new thrust bearing (should come with clutch).
  24. This is my major bug bear on our shoot, idyllic surroundings and toss pots throw plastic cases everywhere, in my mind that makes them as bad as the flytippers who choose to throw everything from domestic refuse to fridges into one in particular of our woods, man id love to catch them at it!
  25. I take it the clutch has just worn mate? It isn't too big a job but would be made a hole heap easier if you have access to a post ramp otherwise it is doable on the drive but you will struggle. Take the prop off and get it out the way. Undo the chassis cross member but leave it on the bolts as this will support the weight of the gearbox. Undo gearbox mounts and all the bell housing bolts except the top two. Jump in the cab and undo the gaiter around the gearsticks and if possible remove the gear knobs. Back under the truck undo clutch line (i take it that it is a hydraulic clutch not cable?) S
