I use both dedicated and add-on, with the add-on i sit the scope forward so much it is hard work shooting by day, but can be done this lets the add-on sit spot on for nite shooting which most of my time. The only down side to add-ons for me are the loss of light this is why you need a good laser but it will never be as clear as a dedicated scope, Also the risk of damaging the tube via recoil they say max cal .223 but there's loads who shoot bigger and there are very few that damage due to recoil but there's always that chance.
