Judges for Ballywalter Game Fair
Irish Lurcher replied to AlbertJ's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Paul, Your are entitled to your opinion as I trust you believe we are ours. Our fairs attract working dogs, show dogs and racing dogs. We do not have tests for working ability in terriers and lurchers - we have shows and racing. Therefore I consider it is illogical to think that someone who solely claims 'to work their dogs' should regard this as the ONLY qualification for judging a show. One could say ideally the judge should have experience of judging, been successful at shows and works their dogs, In that order NOT the other way round. Only if it was a working test would the work -

Ausnick thats fine with starting them on cubs, have you ever come across a time when your pup is to young to slip on cubs, say your pup is six months old and the cubs are out and about, my problem with ur appraoch would be you are looking for perfect timing regarding age of pup and cubs been around at the right time.. I still say the best way is to slip double making sure the seasoned dog is well into the red before ya slip the pup. JMO and I take ur point.

Fair point lad, but how on gods earth can you teach the dog to stay clear of the sharp end of things, the young dog I feel must be made aware of this and thats when an older dog comes into play. If it works for you then fair play, but I can see more young dogs been rabbit dogs in the long run. stay clear of the sharp end ...... ... if my dogs not at that the "sharp" end hes gone lads....... We are talking about young dogs here, not well seasoned dogs, young dogs that are been brought on as fox dogs, tell me how do you enter your young dogs onto reds.. guessing from ur reply you just l

Great reply Brian, I think you will find that most of the shite on donedeal are lads who ran them to early and now want to sell on because they are either moving house or a new baby has come on board, bollox, stop fcuken ruining good dogs and give the pup a change to work.

I really don t want to spoil this thread, but other day I was slated by stop.end for doubling up my pup, ,, now I know he craves attention and that most of his replys are shit, but it worry me that he can run on a young dog single, must have a good supply of dogs, or a yard full of rabbit dogs. Can someone who is foolish enough to run a pup single on a red please explain to me the reason for doing so, please...

Chris agree 100%, so why would a lad bring on a pup for for 15 months or so and expect the pup to a tough job single, thats the part I dont understand, Any dog man worth his weight would never chance to ruin a pup in such a manner.
-
I think we have seen enough input into this topic to ascertain that a young dog is best served when slipped with another older dog. Correct?? I really cant understand why a person would want to even consider slipping a young dog on a red single, and yet I know of many who still practice this, to me the only out come of slipping a young dog single is you end up with a rabbit dog. Am I missing something in relation to doing them single???

Thats a good endorsment for her, I feel the point the lads are making is that they want to be judged by one of their own, now that can also bring about problems. Think we need to call in John Hume and Gerry on this one.... -

fine strong looking dog in ur there joball,

Agree that to double is always best, but the dog must do single after that as stated or I dont feed it. I have seen some dogs run doubled up and some can hold back waiting for the other dog to catch the red, seen it loads of times, so it does pay to get the young ones running single as quick as you can.

Danny it goes without saying, its the norm to double up a young dog on a red, the best was to ruin a pup is to enter it single on its first fox.

Few lads have come forward with this problem Jay, you are not alone and I would'en think any less of you if ur into rings of white pudding then so be it

putting up with a no good dog
Irish Lurcher replied to kevin from bristol's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
chuck her in a cage full of rats , that will bring her on abit more. i hate lap dogs , most lap dogs havent had the stuff put in front of them What the f**k you on about, I hope you dont keep dogs, the the second best bit of advice I have heard on here, the first was to wrap a lure in barbed wire to stop the dog becoming hard mouthed. :bad: -
