  2. as stated in the write-up my regular hunting partner jake {my nephew} was with me, he,s never let me down,so much so that he was at a party untill 6 o,clock saturday morning but was still sitting on his mums doorstep in his wellies ready to go ferreting at 8 o,clock,{i used to be able to do it!!} cheers plum!
  3. did,nt know whether to venture out on saturday or sunday this weekend with the ferrets and dogs but in the end decided to try my luck yesterday . i,m glad that i did, we had a drop of snow and it was bloody cold here in silly suffolk but today there is a blanket of snow outside ! as well as my two beddy/whippet lurchers, my ferreting partner jake, one of my own hobs,we also took along a young hob {and his owner] that i helped rehome earlier this year. it was the first time out ever for the young hob and he certainly did,nt hang about ! he only sniffed around the entrance for a few seconds and
  4. cheers for your replys people,very interesting ! i have always done more feretting than anything else, hense me having two beddy/whippets,but more recently i,v started feeding the birds on a small local diy shoot and beating on another local shoot so i, also getting the chance to do a bit of shooting myself. i,m only thinking ahead {as you do !} but just wondered if any one dog would be suitable, cheers plum!

  8. i pulled my 97k out of the slip to use last night to find rust on the barrel ! i know it,s my fault for being lazy {forgetfull} but is there anything i can do ? cheers plum .

  10. the bitch is a two year old whippet/beddy , i,m no expert but i know she,s nowhere as good as her mother but as i,v said i think thats partly due to my (bad) training i bred her,me and the missus both love her,she will be with us till she dies so we,er trying to make the most of her, thanks for your helpfull replys,we,ll keep trying ! cheers plum !
  11. just a quick update on my bitch who,s been letting her rabbits go. on monday morning i took her for a bit of ferreting, although i took both the bitch and her mother before putting a ferret to ground i put the mother back in the van. we bolted a couple of rabbits one was chased by the bitch but was,nt caught, the second rabbit i bowled over with the shotgun, the bitch seemed a completly different dog she ragged the dead rabbit and seemed more involved and keen ! i feel sure that if this bitch had seen more work on her on rather than with her mother she would be so much better. as my mate said

  14. anybody got any advice for me ? i have a two year old bitch beddy/whippet x beddy/whippet who has been slow as anything catching on to the rabbiting game,at last she,s started to catch a few but she strugles to hold onto them, this week she caught one which wriggled free only to be caught again by the dog but still managed to free its self and away it went down a hole ! i own this dogs mother who is the opposite, she was doing too much at six months old and lets nothing go once she,s caught it,any sugestions please ? cheers plum!

  20. i thought this would devolop into a helpfull topic for me and sure enough it has, spaniels ratting, brilliant !! so my next question is could i use a spaniel as a marking dog whilst ferreting aswell as a beating/roughshooting/retrieving dog ? cheers plum !
