  1. Lots of people are coming up with the same advice Leanne. I would take it if I were you, and let Baily go to a home that can manage him before its too late, its plainly obvious at this stage in time you arent quite up to the job. Try again in a few years when the kids are older and maybe you will have more confidence with dogs.
  2. The aggression is because he dont see you as the boss, dogs are pack animals and have a pecking order. In his eyes you are equal or lower than him in the pecking order, the only way to stop the aggression from him is to put him in his place. Every time he growls or snarls at you, give him a smack around the head, hard enough for him to feel it and know you mean it. Dont worry about all the do gooders saying you dont need to smack dogs to let them know, the top dog in a pack lets others know he is boss by aggression, not by talking to them. The dog will show you more respect and love by doing
  3. I was gonna go, but its like daylight out there tonight with the full moon, and the winds have dropped as well now.
  4. If you have some other dogs to take out and keep you busy it takes your mind off the puppy and you wont rush it.
  5. I think keeping on the slip is best, you have total control has mentioned. I went out with my bro-in-law a few nights ago, he dont have dogs now but used to.I was holding my older dog and he was holding my 6mth puppy. Has soon has we got out of the car in the first field he let the puppy straight off to run, I asked him what he was doing, to which he replied thats how he used to do it. We were on my permission so we walked on and I let the older dog off too at his request, to cut a long story short after 2-3 hrs lamping we never killed 1 rabbit and never had many runs. The dogs werent runnin
  6. When I go lamping I always keep my dog on their slip until I see a suitable run then lamp it and let the dog loose. Do you guys keep your dogs on the slip lead or have them loose and walking beside you throught the fields??
  7. 12v 20ah golf trolly batterys are good, I have 1 and it lasts 2 full nights on my Blitz 240. That Battery was £29.99 from ebay inc P+P, I had to buy a bag £3.50 inc P+P to carry it and a charger £19.95 inc P+P. The lot stands me in £53.44. It has more than enough power and although it is reasonably heavy (5.5kg) I can carry it no problem all night long.
  8. The support bandages came off my puppy yesterday and the legs are now perfectly straight, the vet gave me a calcium combined with Vit D tablet to give her everyday for a month to boost the bone strength. So Fingers crossed she will be OK now.
  9. She was traumatised as a kid I reckon, when the dog ate her cat.

    Worms!!!!

Four worms and a lesson to be learned!!!! A minister decided that a visual demonstration Would add emphasis to his Sunday sermon. Four worms were placed into four separate jars. The first worm was put into a container of alcohol. The second worm was put into a container of cigarette smoke. The third worm was put into a container of chocolate syrup. The fourth worm was put into a container of good clean soil. At the conclusion of the sermon, the Minister reported the following results: The first worm i
  11. There are loads of 12v 20ah batterys on ebay, the golf trolly ones. I got 1 for £30 inc P+P, lasts for 2-3 full nights on my Lightforce Blitz 240, before it needs recharging. You do need to buy a charger seperately though, at about £15-20.
  12. Some of these made me laugh!!!! The following questions were set in last year's GCSE examination in Swindon, Wiltshire (U.K.) These are genuine answers (from 16 year olds) Q. Name the four seasons A. Salt, pepper, mustard and vinegar Q. Explain one of the processes by which water can be made safe to drink A. 13. Post a photo of yours so we have some idea what they should look like
  14. I go what time I want as often as I want, I was just asking for other peoples views on lamping times... But my aim is to be as manly as you 1 day, you sound like a mans man
  15. Looks good mate, whats his breeding?
  16. What is the general sort of times you guys and gals go lamping? I generally leave around 8pm, (before the clocks went back) and get to the fields around 8:30-9pm by the time I pick a friend or 2 up. Because there is 2-3 dogs and we all want a few runs I get home about 12-1 am. My wife thinks that it is too late and that if I do it like her dad used to 25-30 yrs ago I can go at dusk (7pm) and be home by 10pm at the latest!! Just like a few of your views on this please.
  17. wasn't there someone on here who had a saluki pup and its legs bowed badly?i think he found it out to be that the ligaments weren't growing as fast as the bone or something?anyway,it got sorted and the dog was fine. Got back from the vet this morning, they have bandaged the front legs and will have to wait for them to strengthen themselves, its like what you said there pitindall.. growing fast, not Rickets.
  18. I bought 2 saluki X puppies a couple of weeks back, 1 of them looked a little under nourished, very boney. I feed them Beta puppy food, which is a good brand and has all the essential vits minerals etc for growing puppies. The skinny pup had put on weight and is looking a picture of health, then out of the blue yesterday morning her front legs bowed and she looks like she has rickets, she is going to the vet this morning to check her out. I feed my dogs the best food they have great living quarters and are very well looked after, so noone can say it is poor diet or badly looked after on my
  19. The law has its priorities...anything of interest to us isnt 1 of them! Unfortunately!!
  20. I have a saluki/whippet/greyhound bitch puppy at 6mths old knocking over rabbits like noones business, but thats not rare. At 3-4months is, but you get freaks in any animal. How long have lurchers been around? How long have German sheps been around? I am not saying they would be usless but if that cross were any good they would of been popular for lamping/coursing well before 2009/10. It wouldnt be a talking point now, it would be a known fact!! Think about it... noone questions a collie X, a whippet X, a greyhound X, a saluki X or bull X for that matter but German sheperd/Alsation X?????
