Simple Cheap Camo Job On My 52
deanothehunter replied to WoodsmanJim's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Looks great, I am a big fan of gun cammo and I did exactly that with an old hw springer which was my first rifle, just be aware you may need to go to the local petrol station and buy a gallon of petrol as its the only stuff that shifts that terrible sticky gunk when it comes time to peel it all off again........ Your Permission And Camo Gear !
deanothehunter replied to Fieldsports's topic in General Airgun Discussion
I always go in normal jeans T-shirt / jumper but once I get there pull over my realtree mesh suit its light breathable and held up to light looks like a net curtain seeing through it quite well but once over the top of other clothes you blend in nicely, I wear it on every occasion whether sitting in wait for woodies, squirrels or rabbits and have found i had squirrels, foxes, and even rabbits walk past within grabbing distance, but on a few occasions years ago before this stuff was even thought of I found the normal clothes even in drab olives and browns was still picked up by sharp eyes. -
Thought I would cammo up my spare scope today, its only a basic Hawke Nite Eye IR 3-10 x 44 but I like it and find these scopes all very good, reasonably priced and very clear optics. Anyway I found a roll of realtree vinyl cammo tape I forgot I had I love this stuff.... and thought I have a job for that, I sat for 3 hours cutting and crafting each individual piece to fit where I wanted it, but when I got to the tapered front end I had a nightmare trying to get it to fit as this vinyl is great peels off leaving underneath perfectly clean with no mess like the material type does, and it pro

I'm soon hoping to also get another set of wheels too, I been told by many to get another stealth, the thought has crossed my mind but all the bad reviews puts me off a bit even though I have owned 2 without any major problems like i see suggested in certain reviews etc. The first one I owned I had for years and it never let me down once, then the second only failed on one occasion with a faulty valve which I had replaced by gunpower with a quick turn around considering how busy they were, I do miss the last one i converted to .20 cal ( which was a fully regretted sale just a day or 2 afte

Im looking for a new pcp, my last was the dreaded gunpower stealth in .22 but got it converted to .20 flavour and a regulated buddy to suit this cal otherwise using a .22 buddy valve would push the power way beyond 12ftlb's. These guns are like marmite you either love them or hate them but my one was'nt a friday afternoon job it was very reliable only letting me down once due to a faulty valve but quickly sorted by jeff at gunpower, they say the service was bad but i rang jeff and got it to him for a quick turn around on every occasion and just like the fact you could change the barrel to

Popped out today after a year or two's break plus i sold my guns apart from a stoeger x 20 springer that i kept dont know why but last night i dug it out and decided to pop out to a permission i still have, infact i still have 2 and the 3rd im not sure about but will call in to explain my absence, as redundacy, illness and my Dad passing away last year have all taken their toll on me, just hope he'll be ok fingers crossed as its a massive acreage farm with every type of quarry you could wish for ........ The 2 i do have are ok as i regularly metal detect these 2 farms which was the reason

Air Arms S410 .22 Or .177 For Hunting ?
deanothehunter replied to deanothehunter's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Cheers for your comments, I always used ,22's in the past but have had a couple .177's but the just dont have the whack of a .22, my stoeger x 20 .22 springer is all i have at present but even that packs a punch and does great with the local squirrels all head shots only , but do miss a pcp, but recently checked out the air arms and loved them, having the stealth was great as it all fitted discreetly into my rucksack as i go to my shoots by bike so liked the air arms s410 tdr too for this exact reason. I have noticed that all my permission owners all now ask if I am insured but before some years ago they never worried if i were or not, gone are the days where kids would sneak them into the nearest woods and the local copper told them to get it home and next time he'll tell their parents lol.......

I had a .22 gunpower stealth that was ok in .22 and did some great hunting with it, I had a .177 stealth too some years ago which was very accurate and also did me proud on many occasions but it never seemed up to most hunting situations and a lot of times straight through penetration had pigeons fly off then drop shortly after even with head and neck shots as max energy was'nt imparted to the vital area due to no pellet stop inside as .22's do... I then got a new regulated buddy bottle from gunpower suited to .20 cal which i changed the .22 barrel to and then that gun was amazingly accura

Avoid pine and other softwoods, and even some hardwoods like a mahogany 1 i made took a mild fork strike and the whole fork snapped off and can be dangerous, a good tough all rounder is 18mm birch 13 ply plywood or multiplex as some call it..... its not very cheap but 1 board of 8' x 4' would last you a very long time and this stuff is easy to work comes out brilliant and finishes are very professional. It also takes all knocks and bumps without the worry of it snapping and fork hits barely show but small dents can be steamed over a boiling kettle spout and they raise up and can be sanded

Heard about the spun poly but never used it, might just try some as even hemp ones when held by the ring with it dangling they seem to spiral and twist as the over and under of the needle whilst making causes the string to twist a lot but told the spun poly stays straight and is long lasting if dried after each session ... Deano Its good practice to dry your nets, but is not nessesary with spun poly, it doesnt rot like natural fibres. You will get twist with lots of types of material if its loaded on the needle wrong or is a reject spool. I went through one and a half spools of fox tw

thanks for comments everyone, I have never been in view of a rabbit but have had a video cam at times trained on certain holes well away from their view and caught them doing just this with the bright coloured nets but never natural hemp or greens/ browns ? they must be colour sensitive down south lol

Not had ferrets for some years now after last 2 were stolen, but recently digging out all my old nets made me think about possibly getting another couple of ferrets sometime soon and start up again. I will need more nets as mine are worse for wear and damp has ruined some of them so today its rained all day so decided to make a netting needle from an old piece of 4mm furniture ply and it came out pretty good but took forever so i wont be making them to sell thats for sure, I found some old garden green twine, a bit too thick but thought it'll do to get some practice in after so long. I

Cheers, I just needed a few for the freezer now i got them, these rabbits are so trusting and are used to the girls dealing with the horses on this land and i walking in between them when last went out metal detecting and they were all out in centre field and they still played and chased each other feet away from me not at all bothered by my presence. You really dont find one of these permissions often but the land owner shoots a few himself but they never been lamped or had too much of a caining

I have not had a ferret now for some yrs as the last 2 were stolen from my shed hutch as well...... I was sorting through my shed the other day and found my old purse nets and thought about getting another ferret or 2 for next season, anyway i seen an old mate who will have some young kits for next year so thats sorted. I sorted all the nets out and decided to go to an old pasture permission and was surprised to see many rabbits out feeding during the day so i silently crept into the hedge and set nets on all the burrows near by and then went round to opposite side of field climbed into t

This is a very good link : In the video it shows how to start a net on the ring then the loops etc then final ring, i use a very similar system to this video but where he says under 2 strands then under one stran for the locking knot its really not needed i just go under 2 strands and never had any problems and never had a knot come loose in over 30 years of ferreting. Another thing is i only prefer natural hemp coloured twine or green / brown as i had some nets given to me once from a friend and they were bright orange and a few times the rabbits jumped towards the net then must of not
