  2. I have a pet rabbit in wild colours he nearly 3 yrs old now I shoot wild ones all the time without feeling bad as they're pests after all, but I have a very strong bond with Buster he is a house rabbit fully litter trained and we only been apart once when he went to vet to have a small op I missed him so much it hurt, its weird but I am very protective of him and the bond is like you have with a dog I could'nt imagine life without him now,,,,,,,,

The funny thing is the bloke it pet store said he was a dwarf cross breed so will stay small hahahahahahaha he's over 3 kilo's... this pic was when he about a year old, he has the run of the living room but has never left droppings or pee'd since he was trained to go in litter tray he's great...

  3. I need help with chairgun pro i have it on my laptop but cant seem to find how to tap in .20 pellets it just seems to cater for .177, .22, .25 and a rimfire round but when i had it some time ago on another computer you could choose any pellet size you required .........

Any help appreciated, also anyone know of a good .20 pellet i know there is'nt as many to choose from but would like to know what ones are pretty good tried and tested in many makes of gun / barrel

  4. Yeah its weird how helpful they can be but it works which is surprising as a straight laser line and a cuvred trajectory of a pellet could'nt be so different, i have one with windage and elevation turrets much like a scope but its weird screwing the windage out which you would thinks is coming right actually makes the dot go left and vice versa with up and down, but the allen key ajust ones seen to be ok with turning out the screw allowing it to come right or up.....

I first tried one shooting up into trees and downhill etc as a squirrel in a tree thats only say 10 to 15 yards away if your zero was 30 yards but the laser shows around half inch below as your shooting directly upwards anyway i went where the laser said on the cross hair and the shot was beside the eye so clinical it you would be amazed, they are not for everyone but great fun for target shooting as i once set out some x tra strong mints at my 30 yard zero then held the gun by my waist not even looking at the gun pressed the laser button on got the green dot on one of the mints and fired the mint disintegrated in a puff of white powder, i seen shotgun shooters use shooting from the hip method with good results but an air rifle with a single pellet, but it works try it out even if target shooting great fun .........

  5. Have used a green laser which is fully visible in daylight, i set my scope at 30 yards so pellet on pellet then look at the same target with the laser on and set that the same so its dead centre of your cross hair at your zero range then when you see a target a quick press off the button if its further than your zero the green dot will appear above somewhat showing exact holdover and vice versa closer than zero shots the dot will be below a touch , i used one on my old stealth and it never let me down and always told me where to shoot so well in fact it was sometimes too easy........be aware though some i used work back to front with the dot shown below at further than your zero so where the dot is on the lower cross hair just place the green dot on rabbits head and goodnight bunny it does all the calculations for you.......

Can pick these lasers up cheap on fleabay and such sites, red ones ok but hard to see in daylight unless in shady woodland etc,

    Just a thought,

  6. They all seem to favour my part of the woods as its private and very quiet and gets no walkers etc, in 12 years of shooting here I never gone home without one ever, I love them in pies or stews, it took a long time to get the courage to eat one as they are nearly always covered in fleas so used to leave them in an old outdoor freezer to kill the fleas then bung them to my ferrets but now I skin them in the woods after each session launch the left overs in the scrub for foxes to pick up that way nice fresh meat placed in freezer bags ready for freezer when I get home, I do the same with woodies, just taking the breasts out and rabbits if I only get one or 2 it really saves the mess at home, although if I get a fair few I take them home as they are but always gut them up there.

I once used to go with a friend who took rabbits home whole he never p***ed them or gutted them until he needed them that rotten gut smell makes the meat taste like s*** I like to do em whilst still warm minutes after shooting where possible that way no smell, this mate did slit them open once one cold winters day in snow whilst ferreting as his hands had frozen solid he placed a hand inside each amongst the intestines etc to warm them up but after about 10 seconds he pulled hands out screaming as they started stinging big time, as putting cold hands under warm tap it hurts like hell so best to use cold as it doe's the job better.........I can still picture his face to this very day :rofl: some 10 yrs or so on, not seen him since.

His ferret grabbed one near entrance same day so I thrust my hand in to grab it just got a good leg hold and his ferret latched onto my thumb I yelped in pain and pulled the bugger out he was on full lockjaw flicking his nose did'nt work trying to prize his jaw open did'nt work either in the end I was in so much pain I litterally pulled the bugger off breaking through the skin and opening the end of my thumb right up leaving him chewing on the part that come off, it bought tears to my eyes I could of stamped on the bloody thing so we both had great pain that day............

  7. Hi Deano

According to my calculations on Chairgun Pro, you can go all the way down to 6ft/lbs and still be getting 4.4ft/lbs of energy at 35yds with a 13.4g pellet. Though I suspect that would be the total minimum you'd want to go to as I've heard that it can take between 4-6ft/lbs to get through a bunny's skull. 8.5ft/lbs may be a better minimum to not go below and that will give you 6.3ft/lbs at 35yds.

Regarding weight of pellet. As I understand it (and have seen on my own chrono), heavier pellets put through a PCP will record a higher ft/lb reading than when using lighter pellets. However, the reverse is true when chroning a springer. You'll get a higher ft/lb reading using lighter pellets. I used to use RWS Hobbys in my springer and they did the job out to 35/40yds.

Why this happens, I know not but I'm sure there is some far better educated person out there who can enlighten us.

FPS isn't the best way to judge a pellet. It's the energy that it imparts at its destination that's important. If it's going too fast, there is a higher chance of over-penetration that may not result in a clean kill. That's one of the reasons why I used Hobbys (apart from the fact that my old springer liked them). They were light - so gave a high energy/fps and they were flat headed - so most of the energy was released on impact.

As for your question about scope height. I was unsure of this too so I emailed Hawke and they came back and told me it is the measurement from the centre line of the barrel to the centre line of the scope. Makes sense really, doesn't it? After all, those are the two points we are trying to ascertain the relationship between.

You really ought to go to the effort and learn how to use Chairgun Pro. It's quite a good bit of kit. If you get stuck, post up here. I'm sure someone will be able to help out.

Cheers yeah does make sense, will have a look later tonight and have a play with it

  8. I had one too once, and like Andy above said they need a good stripdown file all the rough burred edges etc re lube............I did the same sanded stock down to bare wood re stained in walnut dye then used 60% satin varnish and 40% white spirit mix and wiped on with a finger inside an old rag / t-shirt, buff lightly once dry then repeat process untill it looks respectable which is hard for the old B2 lol..........

  9. Chairgun will tell you retained energy at all ranges. It's free to download from the Hawke website. My friend has a rifle at 8.5 ft/lb and it retains something like 70% energy at 30 yards, I can't remember exactly but it was still way more than 4ft/lbs at 30 yards. I'd still recommend having as much power as legally possible to make cleaner and easier kills though.

I have that chairgun on laptop but cant quite work out things like scope height etc is that height from scope rails to bottom of tube, or rails to centre ? or top of scope ....

Also Im hoping to get new gun soon in .20 but it does'nt seem to have .20 on there just .177, .22, .25 if it can be changed for each pellet not found how to use yet lol

    Cheers,

  10. I been told best pellets in pre charged are heavies and very light in springers, the lightest ones i found are Falcon accuracy plus at 13.43 grains and they are very good in this gun, my last pre charged was .20 cal and was using jsb exact at 13.73 grains so even the smaller calibre pellets were heavier than these but they are pretty good and being lighter give better fps etc

  11. I been using a stoeger x20 springer with good results until i get a new pre charged, but even when I bought it a year or 2 ago it only was doing about 10 1/2 ft lb out of the shop but out to my 35 yrd max range it still had plenty of thwack against rabbits and closer stuff like woodies and squirrels.

Since that time its slowly got less power probably due to main spring wear as they do, but I chrono'd it earlier and its around 10.3 ft lb but it still has energy at max range to cleanly take a rabbit which i been told only takes 3 to 4 ft lb to do but was wondering what would be the minimum muzzle energy required for a clean kill out to 35 yrds, for instance would a gun shooting at 8ft lb still retain enough energy out to this range.

Is there a chart to explain retained energy at various ranges etc with different muzzle velocities ?

    Cheers,

  12. Thats very sad news, I really feel for you, I recently came back to it and had to find permissions again after a good few years break but managed to talk round old landowners who were very understanding, just think carefully before selling up, i did and regretted it and now have to buy all gear again, sods law I think they call it .........maybe keep your gun a while you never know things could all change on the permission front......usually the minute you sell up and call it a day, maybe try smaller sites like pasture as i did its not thousands of acres but thousands of rabbits ..

Good luck anyway, all the best,
