  4. dont be so hard on em lads ffs... the important question is does his parents do the biz for what you want him for kid.. does this type of dog suit what ya want to do regarding type of hunting... and last but not least are your able to handle and get the best from such a cross? regards SS
  5. spot on mate ill stand back and when i hear the ferret on a rabbit ill give it a few mins for it to bolt..if nothing is showing then check on the locator...if the ferret is in one spot for about a min i usually turn the sod and have a quick check before i continue diggin....if i check and he is on the move again then i stand back and give it another few mins...when doing ditches i use it more as in my permission the burries run a good distance so every few mins i check where the ferret is so i can move up and down the ditch so the dogs are in the right position for the bolters..i do this as
  6. i started my hob last season at 16weeks old and he went straight down and done the job... it all depends on the ferret i think as some takes longer to hunt than others... i wait till around 6 months for my jills... regards SS
  7. as there teeth get bigger i trust them less
  8. yes i totally agree with ya mally... whippets are alot tougher than people give credit for and in peak condition can run for just as long as my lurchers.. also agree with skin being too light is a bit of bull imo.. in my fellas first season last season he had 125+rabbits with his best number on the lamp at 16... think thats not bad for his first season i think once there in tip top condition then there is no reason why they cant do 20+ even though for me its not about numbers as if it was i would be ferreting with nets instead of just using the dogs to get em...
  9. nice dogs kid looks like a deep one that set..better get the jcb out for that one lol regards SS
  10. i do like the weathon cross also even i dont have one... i have seen shephounds jack on the lamp and he is an excellent dog regards SS
  11. i have also a few other older dogs that were entered at different times as when i seen fit to do so..so as i said not about age..but you keep doing what ya think is right and dont pass a smart ass comment and let others do what they feel is right
  12. 2 seaons done at 18 months old well to give ya an idea i started my whippet at 14months and his first season had 125 rabbits so is comin along nicely but has alot more to prove... but he will be 2 at the start of nest season so will be 2 1/2 when finished his second season so i dont know where you get youre 18 months from... by then i know what he will be made of.... if your dog would be 18 months with 2 seasons under his belt then you must start him at 4 month old so really is it me or you who has not got an idea do what you think is right and ill do the same.dont be so quick to commen
  13. honest question... how does this set up make the battery last longer or did i miss read the post?
  14. well im not saying what i do is right but its just the way i do it... mabey for some dogs you would get rid of sooner as you just know there not going to do it and others ya give more time..its more of an average i put up and its my way of thinking and not anyone elses... some dogs iv kept for life and have gotten a great bond with them and would have never gotten rid of them but they proved themselves to me in the field first... regardsSS
  15. well iv not used exactly that one but on the deben pack there is a similar cigar connection thats absolute useless.. as when the connection heats up it just burns through the soldering connections... some times the most simplest things are the best but as iv said iv not used that exact one kid
  16. tick, tick, dont know what ya mean by tick tick... mabey ya want some fellas to havew a go at me cause im a new guy cause i dont really see in what iv said would make someone to do so as it seems a bit of common sence is all im typing regards SS
  17. Thanks FM.. iv caught 100,s of bass bigger them them but never beach fishing at night so it was nice to get em we fished all night for them and on my local spot where i have caught some double figure size fish myself and the bro had 4 yesterday... i only had 1 though lol.but it was only in 2 hours but we took one home a nice average 6 pounder... the bro broke on a double figure fish too, well we think it was a double figure as the way it fought as we have taken several over the past 15 years from this spot... regards SS
  18. a dog is as only as good as its owner in most cases..if you give the dog the best then expect the best from it... if you treat the dog poorly and the dog is not fit and healthy then dont expect it to be a world beater you only get out what you put into it... well for me 2 seasons and if its not doing the biz i get rid... as some dogs take to it quicker than others so i dont go by age but by 2 working seasons regards SS
  19. well the best dog iv seen on the lamp was a beagle cross is all i could call her..and like that too cute for her own good running one way while the rabbit another and her biggest bag was 30 rabbits in a few hours and would have taken more too if i would have continued so i say why not... dont know what you have posted before to the reason why people are against ya... but there are so many x greyhounds to make up a lurcher so i cant see why your mates dog wouldnt do the biz regards SS
  20. well for one there smashing looking dogs kid, i know what your saying about a thin layer of concrete over insulation as it would give out a good amount of heat... do think there too small for them dogs though and also as one of em is big and would be heavier than the other there is a good chance with lying on a hard surface no matter how big he will suffer in the joints of his legs as he would be putting all his weight on em with no cushion... the size looks to be 18" x 18" as it looks a block length either way...think if your kennels are well say 4 ft wide then it would be good to extend t
  21. HA HA HA...well with the stories iv heard from valleylad, moggie is sorting you out in the sack ya steamer!!!!!

  22. the lightforce lamps have the best beam imo but the wiring is fairly poor on em,if you could get a second hand one would be ideal as i think i payed €120 for mine...as for batteries then they do them as a pack with the lamp but are quite expensive and you can get the same ones for half the price at a hardware store...best not to cheap out on the battery and get the best one if ya can afford it so if your buying new about €200 would get ya a very good set up... think there are some great deals about though so if ya cant afford that, plenty are selling all kinds of second hand packs...best o
