  1. i have a whippet also but to be truthfull the lurchers i have are better than him but he still puts them in the bag and is a very keen dog, just lacks a bit of brain lol. he is a good solid dog and never had any trouble with him with stamina, feet or the cold. regards SS
  2. cheers lad cracking looking dogs macker
  3. its early bells yet as this is the first cross iv had with irish terrier. another few years should show a truer picture.
  4. here is mine. also 20 month old. dont know if its a brother to your one lad. 25"tts
  5. The last coursing greyhounds I saw running in England where for the most part rather too big for my liking ,it seems the Irish coursing with the emphasis on a big fast dog that gets the run up is wanted.A good mouth is not needed ,and might even be a handicap , as it can pull down to lose, without amassing the points. The coursing dogs of olden times like Master McGrath a smallish agile little dog with a big engine are a thing of the past . I would not breed a straight grey to a lurcher myself ,as I beleive the second cross is stronger, but, if I did I would probably go for a small to medium s
  6. will be hard to cast that at any sort of distance i would imagine so for any sort of big lakes you might struggle. sure its a rod and if anthing you will get some casting practice done.. should do the job for river fishing and if you catch anything from 4oz up then you will get a good scrap on that rod. best of luck lad
  7. iv never seen a 10ft 3 weight rod!! are you sure its a 3 weight? as usually there between 6-8ft. i would advise on a starter rod a 10ft 6 weight as it will do most things for trout, dry fly,wet fly, resevoiur, lake. when ya get nto it then a 5 weight for dry fly both river and lake. 7-8 weight for resevouir and lake for wet and buzzer fishing. 10 weight for pike ans sea fishing. plenty of practice and you,ll be grand
  8. lol yes its not a starter kit really.. for your first rod try and get the best one you can as a good rod can help your casting a great deal. clean your line and eyes of the rod every week to keep it free from grit and dirt as if not it will hinder your casting.. for practice tie a shoe lace to the end of your line and practice casting on short grass if you can.. i would advise to get casting lessons also. best of luck.
  9. you will need a strong setup for pike 8-10 weight 9-10ft rod with the same weighted line to suit, for a beginner a medium action rod with both floating and intermidiate wf line of the same weight of the rod.also a few different sink tips to get the fly to the fishes feeding level on the day. for the rest of the species then depending on the water you fish a 4-6 weight rod 8-10ft and as above with what type of action and lines you will need. this is my setup up for trout. best of luck. regards SS
  10. I don't know how or why but I read from a credible source that high temperature (fever) causes hallucinations in people and a friend of mine's kid kept having terrible nightmares, she kept waking up screaming and was so bad that she was scared to go to sleep, slept with some religious medal to "protect" her. But during the day she was always warm, went around in a T-shirt in all weather but when she went to bed she would wear socks tucked into pjs and had a duvet and blanket over the top. So they cooled her down at night and it helped. It didn't totally stop it but I think she was so anxious a
  11. i have a dog that yelps, growls and barks sometimes when he is asleep. when he is doing this his feet are going 90 like he is chashing something in his sleep.. he has done this since he was a pup and still does it.. i think its just basic dreamin as when he wakes he is quiet and does not seem to suffer from any kind of cramp. regards SS
  12. yes i hunt rabbits as my main quarry but not just lampin but ferreting too, i dont lamp hare,s do you???? yes both dogs have taken hare and fox during the day and took a few fox on the lamp also.. have done a bit of ratting with them too just to mix it up a bit. i do think the ultimate test for a dog is a hare but its not the only test that the dog should pass to claim one has a good dog is what im trying to say.. im not knocking your dog as for a young dog its doing well for ya. that bitch sounds a good un but since you havent seen many hare dogs that dont say much. mine have taken all

  14. im not doubting if the effort is put into these type of dogs they make good allrounders also but i think most keep and work them for one specific quarry, which seems a waste to me.. i suppose thats another question that it seems more for money rather than sport. surely to be classed to having a good dog is for that dog to work at all aspects i.e lamping, ferreting e.t.c rather than just doing one thing? as i wouldnt class a dog as being a good dog if it only took hares and nothing else.

  16. cheers for the reply,s lads and im in agreement lol.. a good allround lurcher that can do a bit of everything for me rather than an overpriced one trick poney
  17. would be interesteding to know your views on which ye lads would prefer? i seen alot of topic,s lately especially from the irish lads about hare dog,s!! obviously these type of dogs are run on nothing else probably due to their owners not lowering themselves to hunting rabbits. so what are people opinions on what they would rather have. a good allround lurcher that will lamp, ferret, take a few fox and hare or one of these hare dogs that would be in a state of shock if they saw a rabbit bolt from a hole in the ground?
  18. my 20 month old salukixwhippetxirish terrier x grey. done well for his first season.
  19. i keep up the walking every day but since there not running/working as much i give them lower protien nuts and dont feed them any pasta until i start again.
  20. spot on lad as soon as i seen pregnant doe,s i finished up. that was in mid feb. even though there is plenty of rabbits around me i still want the same sport that im getting now when im an old man. some lads have to hunt to keep their permission but if ya hunt em all year round that permission wont be very productive in a few years. only killing your own sport imho. my way of thinking is killing a healthy doe at this time of year then your losing rougly 10 rabbits come sep-oct. doesnt make much sence doing that for me but each to there own.
  21. heres my sal/whip/grey,ive alot of pics of him up on here on previous threads, hes acrackin dog even tho hes had not much work this year hes only had 491 rabbits this year between daytime and nite time work, ive been doing alot of hawking with the goshawk this weather so the dogs have been suffering a bit they not getting there 6 days a week hunting, but the thread mill in the new kennels and the road walking 5 mile a day is keeping them ticking over, me new kennels
