  1. I understand the Florencecourt Country Fair is running two days this year as it is their 20th anniversary. Dates 28th & 29th May - Terriers & Lurchers are on the Sunday 29th May and the lurcher events are qualifiers for the Master Mc Grath International Lurcher Challenge ( final at the Irish Game Fair at Shanes Castle 25th June) and the Five Nations International Lurcher Championships ( final at the Irish Game & Country Fair Birr Castle 28th August). 2. Littlefish, Point well made. If you run your dog on the Saturday you get a free ticket for Sunday - so you can enjoy two days at the show for €17 and choose whether or not you enter your dog and/or in how many classes on Sunday. As you say the choice is there. albertj
  3. While we like to sponsor innovative country sports events unfortunately the christening even of a relative of the august WDS falls a little short of our criteria. However if it was the re baptism of your good self with full immersion we would certainly consider sponsoring the guy 'dunking'you!
  4. Tango, Well done with the innovative competition and a real chance to test the 'working ability' of the owners. I would be delighted to help with sponsorship. If we can brand it the Irish Countrysports and Country Life Magazine Digging Championship and get the relevant photos of competitors and winners for a magazine report I would be happy to put up two tankards, two annual magazine subscriptions and £50 for the winning team and two magazine subscriptions for the best team of ladies (or runner up to the ladies if they win!). If it goes well I would be happy to put up a perpetu

  6. albert, our show for the home counties is the 22nd of may, not 23rd, as on your update, just so you know, dd. Noted and changed. Thanks - hope to see some Home Counties dogs across - we have special ferry & accommodation rates and the hospitality will be good!
  7. I am delighted to report excellent progress with the new International Lurcher championships - The Master Mc Grath Challenge and the Five Nations International Lurcher Championships. We now have qualifiers in place throughout Ireland and the UK with other applications being processed. If you would like your club to be considered we can still take a few more for each so if your club would like a qualifier please email me on irishgamefair@btinternet.com. We are delighted to welcome the following sponsors Redmills Dog Food; Barbour; Countryside Alliance Ireland; Premier Event Catering; Dav

  9. It seems you haven't answered my question yet which is a shame as if it is the MA club providing everything then people would perhaps understand better why it's so expensive to enter a class. Dukie, Not ducking the question as you may have guessed I was away last week. Dare I say it - a minor invasion of Just Huntin's country! This year the MA Terrier Club costs will include : Travel, some judges expenses & gifts, accommodation; class trophies; rosettes, insurance and a donation to a charity of my choice ( previously their own choice). In addition they have some tasks to

  12. Leeview, At last a positive suggestion and one that merits discussion. I assume both terrier & lurcher people would prefer to have the Sunday. But do lets have feedback on this. However this year as I have repeated time and again T&L enthusiasts can go two days to the fair and run their dog on the Saturday for €17. After that they can choose to enter as many dogs in as many classes as they want at €5 a class. Albertj Alternate them annually Y.I.S Leeview I'd like to hear other views on this - but it is a possibility. Now something that is FREE. New Spr

  14. Pigsy, Another suggestion that will be taken on board when we discuss 2012. I have three colleagues for Birr and four for Shanes. Each group usually meets once a month ( or six weeks) and we like to have our arrangements and budgets for everything in place at the beginning of the year. Having persuaded my colleagues to invest more money in the terriers & lurchers and at the same time offering admission concessions my colleagues are becoming increasingly frustrated by the fact that unlike our other sports and competitions the T&L fratermity like Oliver Twist come back asking for 'm

  18. Fionn, I would be disappointed if I didn't hear from you! I really do hope we get a chance to meet some time. I am not involved in terrier & lurchers myself and rarely have a free Saturday to look at other sports - hence I do not go to terrier & lurcher shows anywhere. If I do have a free Saturday this year I am going to run my bitch in gundog tests and I do hope to take in Mourne as it is near to me. If you are running a show it is unlikely that I would get to it unless I was in the south - I do go down every month so I might hit lucky. BUT I have never refused any or
  19. Kegs, Still working on prize funds for Shanes Castle and Birr other than the basic for the two new competitions - winner of each gets €500, a Barbour Coat worth €500 plus a portrait of their dog by David L Prescott plus a range of other prizes. The prize fund for Ballywalter has been posted on www.ballywaltergamefair.com Albert
  20. DAZZAM, As I said before this is a cheaper entry fee than any of the other sports. I don't show my golden retrievers other than at the club show because they are working dogs. But I put an entry in the other day because I am President of the club. It cost £10 for the class and the only prizes on offer were rosettes! However I took your concerns to the club and we negotiated an agreement for 2011 but I will return to this for 2012. It may be 'old fashioned' but I believe that when I give my hand to something I can't change it. What I was trying to do was to negotiate a good deal OVERAL
  21. Full details of the Ballywalter Game & Country Fair are published in the Spring issue of the Irish Countrysports and Country Life magazine now available in your newsagents. AND before someone (like JH! ) asks me why it is €5 in the ROI and £3 in the North & UK. Its quite simple the ROI government charge VAT on publications the UK government do not. We actually get less per copy from the ROI than we do from copies sold in the UK or NI. Albert J
