  1. Thanks for your input. We have never claimed Ballywalter is Ireland's premier Game Fair - The Irish Game Fair at Shanes Castle is. As you are well aware we took over Ballywalter last year at very short notice ( two months) when BASC cancelled their fair. It was a huge success and this year will be even better. The Terrier and Lurcher events have a central place in the fair with their own superb race track, showing area and car parking. Maybe it is a secret to keep everyone guessing......? word is theyre still phoning around looking for them The Final decision on judges for our events ( all of them not just T & Ls ) is left with the clubs. I sometimes recommend judges - particularly for the gundogs e.g for Shanes Castle where we have over 50 golden retrievers competing from all over the UK I suggested Graham Cox one of the top golden judges in the UK. The main prizes are pewter tankards and for the Master McGrath specially commissioned scrolls and limited edition embroidered qualifiers caps plus through the generosity of sponsors such as Redmills, Countryside Alliance Ireland, Premier Event Catering and my colleagues in the magazine reasonable cash and dog food prizes. Plus the class trophies for all classes in my opinion are very desirable. I am due to get the caps tod

  8. Terrier & Lurcher events start at one. But a really full day's entertainment starting at 10.00 and some of the best trade stands to be seen at any Game Fair. Well up to the normal standard of the Great Game Fairs of Ireland!
  9. The first heats of the Master McGrath Challenge take place this weekend at the Ballywalter Game Fair on Sunday 1st May and also on the same day at the Rockview Show. Following weekend the qualifier takes place at Dessie Macken's show and the w/e after that at Neilston and Mourne Shows.   11. The North Down Hunt got a great reception from the crowd and the politicians who werepresent. The Hunt and Sunnyland Beagles will be parading at Ballywalter and will be filmed by both BBC4 TV from London and www.fieldsportschannel.tv.   12. Canine Extravaganza at Shanes Castle Fair Ireland’s largest and most varied canine extravaganza will be staged at the Irish Game Fair at Shanes Castle, Antrim on the 25th & 26th June. This includes extensive international competition with the unique Chudleys Golden Retriever Interclub test featuring 10 teams of golden retrievers from all over the UK taking on the UGRC team followed by the Feedwell International Team event with ROI, NI and Ulster Select teams taking on teams from Holland and Wales. Between 3 & 400 people watched the hour long display of country sports pursuits in Ards Square and afterwards a group of 70 leading country sports enthusiasts, press and politicians sat down to lunch in the Town Hall! Lots of politicians were happy to photographed with the horse & hounds etc. Great displays from the flycasters; Eddie Dash, pony & trap; the gundogs and Tony Margaret & Rex with the ferrets. Country will come to Town tomorrow 20th April at 12.00 noon when horses & hounds, terriers & lurchers, gundogs, fly casters, falcons & ferrets and even Victorian street theatre and horse drawn vehicles will take over the Town Square in Newtownards to entertain the general public and give the media a preview of some of the country sports attractions that will be on offer at the Ballywalter Game & Country Fair planned for Ballywalter , Co Down on the 30th April and 1st May 2011. The Fair is in Ballywalter Co.Down and much as we would like to have you up here - you can qualify for either /or both Championships - the Five Nations and Master Mc Grath at Johnny Dicker's Show in Kilkenny. However I would be delighted to see you come up to Shanes Castle for the final!   19. Ballywalter Game & Country Living Fair on 30th April/1st May Terrier & Lurcher Show and Racing on Sunday 1st May starting 1.00pm. Come early as there is the largest number of trade stands ever at Ballywalter and plenty of other entertainment. This events ( along with John Dicker's Kilkenny Show on the same day) kick off the two qualifiers for Ireland's big international lurcher championships this year - the Redmills Master McGrath Racing Challenge - Final at Shanes Castle 25th June and the Redmills Five Nations International Lurcher Championships - Final at Birr Castle 28th August

Great to see you coming on the forum under your own name instead of an apparent range of nomme de plumes AND great to see you using your own event brand names rather than apparently trying to tap into the success of ours.   21. TC Couldn't agree more - re size and quality but not on your conclusion about Moira- which might just be a little biased! In 2011 our fairs will offer SIZE, QUALITY and UNSURPASSED VALUE FOR MONEY! If you want real quality and a good size fair then Ballywalter with its superb traditional venue of a beautiful estate with lake will be hard to beat this year. With over 130 stands and a great display of guns, tackle and clothing ( and even a punt gunning demo!); a real international gundog event featuring teams from both parts of Ireland AND a Danish team; superb angling demos and competition
