  1. £350 is a bit steep don't you think? Looking at it, all it is is a £60 folding ladder with a seat and a rest bolted to it . Just like the one I am currently building
  2. What it's capable of and what you should shoot with it are two completely different things. My opinion is that this round is best kept for small varminting i.e. rabbits, crows etc.
  3. what difference does it make in the lengh of the barrel? Historically rimfire barrels were long so as to take open sights. Now there is very little use of open sights there is little requirement to have a longer barrel which adds weight and can be unweildy, especially in a vehicle. RF powder is completely burnt at around the 12" point, maybe a bit longer in the case of the HMR, meaning little or no decrease in FPS, and a good mod will reduce any increase in bark. After that, it's personal choice
  4. I would agree with this for CF but a .22 rimmy doesn't 'need' a super scope on it. It's nice to have the good kit and a SB 6x42 would be fine IMO but deffo overkill. A cheap Hawke or WTC is more than enough for .22LR
  5. You won't go far wrong with the CZ. Reasonably priced second hand ones are easy to come by, they're bomb proof and as accurate as the more expensive rifles. Edit: If you go for the .17HMR varmint, make sure you get the 16" barrel as the 20" version adds a lot of weight.
  6. Fair one I had a 20" varmint for exactly that reason...wished I'd got a 16" American
  7. Same here, if it goes out it gets cleaned whether it's fired or not.
  8. Agreed, 16" is the way ahead. No loss of performance. Any reason you didn't buy one in the first place?
  9. Many thanks, will have a gander 'cos it won't be long before the garage is too warm
  10. The work horse... Nothing showy but it knocks everything down. Tikka T3 Hunter .222 Remington, now sporting an Ase Utra Jet-Z CQB Mod and Meopta Meostar R1.
  11. Hope your FLO doesn't ask you for a Bot Quick...whatever that might be...sounds a bit dubious
  12. Sounds like a good idea, where did you manage to pick one of those up from?
  13. All of mine are the 8 baffle sets, I just have the Compact versions, the baffle set is Exactly the same as in the normal P8, the only difference is the over barrel tube length!! Cheers Bud
  14. Some good tips there lads. Pretty much the way I approach things already but good to pick up more tricks of the trade
  15. I'm going out to visit a few farms this weekend to try and get some fox and Roe shooting, and it got me wondering what other people say when they 'door step' a farmer . What are your successful lines so I can perfect my technique? "Eyup cocker, can I shoot yer deer?"
  16. Apologies for resurecting an old thread but just out of interest... Deker, is your .22 P8 Compact the 4 or 8 baffled version? TY
  17. I wouldn't go out squeeking/lamping for foxes unless you are equipped to shoot them there and then, they learn fast and will give you a wide berth next time round. Squeek em and kill em, not squeek em and have a look at em. Keep away until you are kitted up my friend If you get any rabbits, open them up and leave out for Charlie to keep him around.
  18. Good for mouse out to 100yds!! Sorry, I'll get me coat
  19. 17HMR is were it's at, and it is a 0.170 NOT a 0.177! You can also get (God knows who would want such a thing??) a .17 Remington Centrefire, when there are many other and much less troublesome calibres out there i.e. .223, 22.250, .243 etc etc. Yeah. You could build a .14 rifle but no factory ammo available even in the States. Jonothon an here has a .14 Ric Isn't it a necked down Hornet or something like that?
  20. Think I saw a .14 in ST last year. Not a common round though
  21. Yep, it'd make a mess of a rabbit. Complete waste though.
  22. I use a T8 on my 6.5 but won't be replacing it once it has had it.
  23. I used these when I first got my 6.5 and although accurate were a bit too explosive with the noslet BT bullets. I now reload and use 140grn SP. Most factory rounds will be accurate enough but some are quite expensive. The Norma's were £2 a pop . It's worth trying a box of Prvi just to see if your rifle likes them, not a bad soft point round and easily achieves 1MOA in the right barrel.
  24. Quick word of advice, look for land with obvious signs of infestation/damage, they are more likely to lead to a positive result. Always be polite, even when some miserable git tells you to fork off. Have a business card made (cost about a fiver for 200 online) and give it to whoever you ask, even if they say no. I have had calls from people who originally said no, asking me to come and sort their rabbits out. Like everyone has said previously, eloquently or not, shooting land comes to those who actively search for it and you WILL get more knockbacks than success, ride the storm and k
  25. Ditto What range are they good for on fox Depends on what you are capable of, good out to 250 yds Is there a big difference on recoil Nope Are there any advantage over 50 grains heads other than price ?Faster and flatter (but not a massive difference to be honest) What about overall length of bullet .Bullet is a bit longer due to added weight, the OAL is the same Thanhs for your reply . Hope this helps
