  1. It could just be a case of giving the dog more time blueboy. I had a terrier cross that wouldn't chase a rabbit but it wasn't long before she turned on and then there was no turning back. What the lads are trying to say is that it's best to see the parents work, if possible, when you are buying a pup as then you'll have a better idea of what you are buying into. If I wanted a pup to bring on for terrier work, then I'd like to see the parents do the work in question. You've bought a pup from what sound like parents who work a line with beaters so you've taken a bit of a chance when it comes
  2. Assuming the Border Lakeland is a half cross, then the pups will be 3/8 whippet 1/4 Russell 1/8 Border 1/8 Lakeland 1/8 Bedlington
  3. A runt is not the smallest of the litter. A runt is a cull. That one you have there just sounds like the smallest. Best of luck

    GREY SQUIRELLS

I can't argue with logic like that!

    GREY SQUIRELLS

The mink, along with the grey squirrel and the rabbit are non-indigenous pest species and should be eradicated
  6. The forerunner to it certainly was mate
  7. Dale, Bedlingtons already have a dash of whippet type in them from the rabbit coursing days (now banned) so using them you are loading the dice a little bit as you are getting a little bit more for your money than a straight terrier cross. Someone on here has a patt cross if I remember rightly
  8. Pics of old boxers.... I was under the impression that there were a number of what you could term bullenbeisers, varying in size and function and when the KC Bulldog was added you effectively got the Boxer. Some GD in there too? Butchers dog in the terms we are talking about is more a term describing a job ie. a dray dog for pulling carts. Hence the old name for the Rotty, which is Rottweil Metzgerhund (metzger means butcher).
  9. Well done Jordan....it's good to see people putting pen to paper (so to speak) and writing about their exploits. I'll look forward to reading more like that

    fox

I've had loads I was convinced were over 20lb but only one since I started taking scales around with me.
  11. Just been re-reading last months EDRD and a phrase in there from Mr. Harcombe stuck out. He mentioned that someone said that a dog should be bred off because of it's head.....just wondering what the criteria for all you lads and lasses are when you think about breeding off your terriers? What attributes do you look for when it comes to breeding and conversely what attributes would you see and decide that they were a definite block on breeding from your stock?

Are there any good hunting magazines out there that people can recommend? I get the Aussie pig mags and the usual stuff here, but I'm always running out of things to read. I've read a couple of hound mags from the states which I got off Cupid, but a lot of them are adverts really. Any you can recommend for me?

    SNARE THE LEAGUE

Do you get behind Broomfield church? I've had a few excellent days behind there! Haven't been in the Swan for a couple of years now, although I did walk past a few weekends back. My old deputy headmaster lives down that way still. I can remember lads just walking around down there with air rifles in their arms, bold as brass, back in the day. My tri-coloured russell and an old black dog had some right good times in your village. All the best mate.
  16. Have a read of this http://www.defra.gov.uk/rural/hunting/hunting_qa_a.htm#1
  17. I agree Tim. Without sounding too pedantic, a working terrier to me is a digging dog. Anything else I would class as a sporting or hunting terrier.

Do you get in the Queens Head by any chance Alistair? yes stabs sure do,where do you come from mate? do all me hunting down that way. Hi Alistair, I used to rake around your neck of the woods when I was a teenager with my russells. Had a few foxes down behind the church on Chart Road and in the field behind the castle. One of my first bits of permission was a little spot in between where you are and Marden. I still get down Headcorn way too. I had some good times over your way! Killed many rabbits in those orchards. I live a couple of miles from you. I remember some grand
  19. Good stuff Nobby. Was this the dogs first night out?
  20. Too much bad? Tell me more Mac. I feed trout when I can get it, but not what I would call regular. Tuna in oil is a big favourite with them though.

Judging from the way you talk on the phone your MP is Reggie Kray or Frank Butcher :11: Good talking to you mate
  22. I must admit I don't feed veggies very much but when I do it's usually a few carrots for their anti-carcinogen properties. The dogs do eat a lot of fruit though but that's all from them grazing the orchards round my home. They also strip my red and white currant bushes and will eat my tomatoes from the plants if I don't close the greenhouse door. Tomatoes are a good source of potassium and there's been plenty of coursing lads feed toms to their dogs in much the same way you see a tennis player eating bananas. They seem to get what they want this way so I'll carry on.
  23. That's one big bit of crackling!
