  2. A couple of years ago my missus suggested using brown sugar as it is more natural and not processed........ a revalation.....makes the gin tastses alot smooooooother. Makes it a crackin' tipple, even at 9.00 am when on a days beating / shooting.

  8. Cracked open my first ever bottle yesterday evening.......ITS BLOODY FANTASTIC !!! My wife is convinced that i've pulled a fast one and swapped them over, she can't believe that from a smelly bucket of flower heads you can produce something so nice. I'm just a bit miffed that I only made six litres, I planned on giving some to friends but now i've gone all "secret squirrel" !!! :whistling: Note: make sure it is very very chilled as it can froth up when opened... every drop counts !

What sort of price are we talking ? Thanks.
  15. thanks mate. i shall bare that in mind iam just going to order my kit probably a 9 weight. would you say a floating or intermidiate line i only have enough money for one at the moment so which would you say is the most importnt to have?? gossy I don't really have a preferance between the two, I tend to use a floating line with a 10-12 foot leader. If you go for the intermediate remember that this is salt water- more dense and more likley to keep an intermediate floating. There are specific salt water lines available because of the salt in the water. I tend to alter the length of the
  16. I have found that you really need an 8 rated line as a minimum to get decent cast in the wind. Head winds tend to be easier than side winds and a weight forward will help get the extra distance. Line speed and loading the rod are the key, using a double haul (loads of instruction on youtube) should also help. An O.S. map is always useful to find that "sheltered mark"
  17. Straight in the smoker with some oak chippings, bit of salad.... and a couple of ciders
  18. Had a couple of nice Rainbows yesterday....one off the top and one with a buzzer. Real weed problems in the lake with this hot weather......you can almost see the stuff growing. Fishing with a two pound leader isn't easy when you try to land a pound and a half fish with three pound of weed. Thinking of introducing grass carp to try and combat the weed, anyone ever done this ? (the pigeon came after I packed up and was having a stroll round the lake..... healthy diet this weekend!)
  19. Took my daughter fishing yesterday morning at a syndicate water and we had a trout each on the fly. After packing up we had a stroll around the lake and I bagged a pigeon, 35 yards and it dropped out of the tree like a stone. Bag of oven chips, couple of bottles of cider.....weekend sorted
  20. the only advise I can give is keep trying, I have been looking for land for months and still no joy. If you can speak to the land owner face to face it may help in the long run ?
  21. Good shooting, you obviously taught him well :clapper: :clapper: :clapper:
  22. I have recently "found" a little stretch of brook, its about 5-6 foot wide and gin clear. I've been walking it quite regularly lately watching loads of chubb and dace. Last week I noticed a couple of wild brown trout, one was a good couple of pounds. I would class myself as a pretty experienced fly fisherman but these fish are proving to be very shy, it's pretty impossible to get in the brook downstream and fish up and when I get in up stream they scarper at the first false cast. Has anyone got any experience of the bow and arrow cast ? I am using a seven foot brook rod with a three weight l
  23. decoys and road kill squirrel work pretty good also.
