  1. may well be a good idea,in your eyes, for me it would be a case of just having a dog for the sake of it,if your gonna treat it right and give it a good home,no one can ask for more than that, fair play to you its not my dog mate and putin it on the lamp was just a thourt i had to keep it fit not knocking you mate and yes good idea to keep it fit ,i feel most of the comments will refer to what you can do with it later in life,ie BREEDING,just not my cup of tea having a dog for that reason alone thats all i agree pal this dog will not be breed i was just going by some of the im

  4. i have had dogs that run fox waiting for a particular moment for a strike for a neck hold first time, they may well have learnt the hard way but still more than capable, but others will strike no matter what or where, taking the sharp, seemingly un-noticed,good fox dogs and clever fox dogs, suppose there is a difference, the particular bitch i refer to was both, as you say fieldcraft surely comes into it as well
  5. determination, exactly what im on about,iv had the dogs that come straight back when lamp off also, but they were never the grade this particular bitch i had was, sounds like you got a very handy dog there mate, hows it bred
  6. cant believe your knocking something that has been done for hundreds of years, each to their own though eh pal
  7. read something the other day about dogs catching foxes out of the beam, for one reason or another, brow of a hill, dell hole in a field maybe,pre-ban(god don't you just get f****d off having to keep saying that)anyway i have had a few over the years,do you think a dog that is capable of catching them like this has a little bit more of what it takes to do the job,as i never really thought about it like that, just took it as being a bit lucky sometimes and after reading about it,just got me thinking. the particular bitch i had that done this a few times was the best dog i had,not for this reason,ju
  8. A mate of mine that was killed a few year back owned one of the best dogs ive seen,it seemed to never miss! At the time we were running a saluki grey and my mate bitch teil was a mix of lurcher to lurcher cant remember exact breed but she was probs the best id seen! We would let the terrier and lurchers work big woodland together, the terrier sounds like a hound when on scent or vision, teil was forever taking roe in big woods or catching just outside, but dont get me wrong its one of the only dogs ive ever seen capable of doing this! She wasnt a huge dog about 20-23" collie in the blood some wh

  11. iv bolted rabbits from log piles and amongst corrugated metal sheeting as well, and from piles of railway sleepers,so i suppose the answer is yes
  12. another thing is that muntjack are reluctant to leave cover, but early morning hunting can often find them eating their fill on open field, bigger target for the dog to see therefore by the time the deer realizes the dog may well already be up on them from a relatively long slip,if a deer reaches cover, well the game is lost imo, never had a dog catch when trying to run in woodland
  13. thats suprized me as i thought if a dog was able to take a deer in the day he would have been able to take a hare. in your opinion/experience what do you think the hare as that the deer doesnt to make him harder to catch. turning ability for one,iv only ever run a few hares pre-ban,not looking for them but the chance arose a couple times and my dogs just not got the ability to run clever bide time and put in a strike, just loose to much ground on the turns, but then they never gonna be productive hare catchers anyway, fallow and muntjack can often be pressured enough to try and straight line
  14. excellent,i find plenty exercise, even more than usual can be very settling for both dogs,if that makes sense lol makes alot of sense actually ive been feeding him up and exercising him and mochara together they actually sleep together , trying to put some meat on him and getting him fit as he is rather skinny... ut he will come good got 3rd at florencecort show last week with him, entered for the day but wee dog done good. looking at mochara, dont think you will go far wrong
  15. hare,iv had dogs that would not stand a chance on a good hare, but deer were readily taken, jmo

  17. very nice, hows your other dog getting on with it
  18. think they call that browning, dont they, frowned upon, but as you say,bad old days lol
  19. its easy to say, dont let her get disheartened, buy that time its usually to late and you never even see it coming, bit young to be on the bunnies imo,but hey you know your own dog, right, mines nearly 10 month, and more than willing to please but another few months before her first lamping trip is planned, good luck with the dog mate
  20. the chances of bringing them on are very slim mate, but fair play if your going to try, know what id do
  21. you enjoyed watching it then mate, sexton beetles, they walk back and forth over the dead animal to measure it,if its to big they dont bother if its ok they give of a scent to attract more beetles to get the job done quicker, might not be your cup of tea but knowledge is power my friend lol
  22. the outside broadcast with simon king,is in the dorset area i think, and yes they have found dog, vixen and cubs to film so far,but not any black ones:he did show a photo that was taken last year of a black fox in that area
  23. only done it once, two pigeons coming in on the deeks, one shot, two clean kills, prob quite common with a shotgun i suspect, more to it with a rifle
  24. saw it mate, incredible little things when you think of the weight they can cope with i still never heard a snipe drumming though, weird sound,i thought it was a natterjack toad when i heard the clip, how far out was i lol
  25. yes ok i was watching springwatch, firstly they was discussing magpies raiding songbird nests, they asked the lovely kate, why should magpies NOT be killed/persecuted,she then went on to explain there is no evidence that magpies affect the population of songbirds what so ever, the proven reasons for their decrease in numbers at times is down to lack of food and weather conditions,i never knew that. secondly they had a sound clip and the answer to the sound was a snipe, drumming, now iv seen a few snipe over the years but never heard such a strange sound coming from a bird, something to do with vibra
