You know I was there! Some terrier man to judge a show with over 30 years in the digging game yet only has dogs bred by other men...... Enough said
unless you are 150 years old everyone’s digging dogs were bred by someone else

The worst West Meath WORKING TERRIER show to date and no disrespect to the organisers intended as they’ve done a great job in previous years to make the show what it is......but this year it wasn’t to be Why? I’m sure they know it wasn’t as good. Digging comp fair play to all the lads involved it was as good as you get. Skip the lurchers and all that bs.Terriers was the thing this show thrives on and all the years the judges have been decent honest working terrier men. The judge this year was a surprise to many such as the low numbers... a man that keeps nothing but glorified FOX dogs at best judging the supposedly best WORKING TERRIER SHOW in Ireland. Pity he didn’t join in on the digging comp because him and his very few mates are only used to digging numerous 1-3 ft holes for that’s all the standard is.
Back to the drawing board lads.
Steak knife it sounds like you have a personal problem with the judge talking to many of people there the reason the classes maybe weren’t as big as in previous years is that everyone was there for the few pints after it’s the whole experience that’s makes it the best show in Ireland and as for 1-3ft fox dogs I was invited out last season for a day with the said judge and we dug 5 of his terriers the shallow one was 1.2m til a pup and the deepest was 3.5m to a well seasoned terrier I never knew him personally beforehand but I’d heard his name mentioned by different men over the years as he has kept terriers for a very long time maybe 30yrs or more surely that’s what you would be looking for in a terrier judge

Firstly I don't think this thread should be ruined by going over things which have been covered before. All I can say on the matter is I saw the dog dig a serious amount of game when he was down south and the boys that had him were no dopes that's for certain. The dog could struggle at timesto find again after a shift but I never saw the dog leave an earth without his game. Be it right or wrong in some people's eyes that he was bred from the blood that's around now that goes back to him is doing the business for alot of boys down here including myself. I can't argue with those results.
We had a dog called wally up here from the same blood we sent him back to the breeder when things got hot up here he was all you would would want in a dog I would take another like him in a heartbeat

I have a dog there this season he started to hard for his own good his first couple of digs were shaky he was rolling around trying to bully the game making mistakes nearly forcing the shift but he dug a couple and failed a couple and I wasn’t impressed by him I put him in a spot that was maybe to big a test just because I wanted to see what he was about and he showed after 1hr beat up and exhausted I made my mind up in my head he was finished only my digging partner convinced me to try him one more time so I healed him and gave him another go and he used his voice for the first time and has used it since he will still rattle him but uses his voice plenty and has dug away since with no fails that’s not to say he won’t walk again because it’s always in the back of my head but sometimes it costs nothing to try them again
