  1. Thanks V-max, very valid points. SOme people just dont care. Compo. LIKE HIM!!! I do like the roans, but I just prefer solid colours, I also like black and tans and chocolate and tans. I dont have any problem with breeding any accepted colours if they dont cause problems with health etc.. I agree with what you said about the breeders you approached who refused you, PRATTS!
  2. God....you do want to be right, dont you i can name hundreds of breeds which have the potential to kill lifestock if owned by incompetent owners Gaz, you know what? Id love to be totally wrong, as god is my witness I would! However I have spent a lot of time round Huskies and i dont think these will be your obedient types I doubt will will ever hear if any are useless, lethal or otherwise, as I dont think owners will admit it, but I do think we will hear how wonderful they are!! I agree that any dog can chase livestock, of course they can I was quoting what the welfare site
  3. I did a search and there are quite a fe Husky/Grey crosses in welfare shelters in the States, all quoting NO OFF LEAD exercise and one will kill livestock!
  4. Dont start me on Cockers Compo!! Another totally split breed, gimme the working ones any time. Personally I prefer the solid coloured ones anyway!
  5. Hope you have good neighbours too, Huskies howllllll!!!
  6. iv been thinking about breeding this cross for a number of years. never got around to it untill now. iv got a 27in greyhound bitch which i will be covering with a husky dog next week. theres a lot of negative thoughts off people about this cross. people who have never seen one let alone seen one work. iv spoken to a few people who have owned and worked them they all seem to be quite positive about the cross. only time will tell. all the best dai dogs Actually I have seen them work. I have a few friends that do the rigging and racing and also know people that have competed in the "Iditarod
  7. Have a think about Huskies. Pull sleds or rigs, NEVER ever run loose, they are in rescue for the most part because they are hyper, wound up animals that people cant control. Even in the arctic where these animals have always been worked, they are NEVER loose, never, always chained. They are bred to run, and thats what they do, they do NOT train well, they do NOT respond well, they are NOT an obedient dog. Why use one and expect it to be anything more than it is when crossed with a Greyhound?
  8. When breeding dogs Compo you should do it to the best of your ability, not anything to anything. Colour genetics in dogs can breed bad faults, yellow eyes and pale pigment has in several cases led to skin cancers around lids on very poor pigmented yellows. It is also known they are much more prone to "sunburning" and can develop skin tumours on their noses, many owners of such dogs claim they get "freckles" too. Similar things happen to white Boxers ctc.. There is NO shortage of available and SUITABLE dogs to use in a breed like the Labrador, and genuine breeder wont let you use their dogs
  9. Yes you wont need any other sizes for Terriers. Use the number 10 on the ears too. Dont use the number 15 it will shave them bald. I have been stripping and clipping dogs for about 14yrs, I will say when you do the first clip you will most probably think its a mess. When you have clipped the dog, bath it, then dry it completely, then clip the dog again, you will be surprised how much comes away and it will leave a much smoother finish. I must reiterate though, they should ideally be stripped to maintain the correct coat texture, once clipped the coat will NOT be weatherproof, you ought to
  10. The coats SHOULD be stripped, but if you have to clip them. use number 7 on their bodies and legs and number 10 on their head. Number 15 are for Poodles feet and faces etc.. Leave their beards alone, trim their feet with scissors. Its much better for the quaslity of the coat to handstrip though.

    lost dog

Was the dog in fit condition when he went missing?
  12. Nope. Wont change his ability at all.
  13. SJM. Yes just confirmed who you meant, hate to tell her, she is NOT the only ACD breeder in Scotland!
  14. PH? if that refers to the breeder I mentioned, no its not them. They have Angus cattle and Dexters, the guy also has (or had when I spoke to him last) 2 Lucas Terriers. I think I know who you mean, she would NOT like these two Lucas Terriers, they are the "sporting" ones, I dont think the show and working ones are the same. Great pics Tomo.
  15. Hands of wrong people, yes Id agree with that. I also think it makes a HUGE difference if these dogs work, they dont "do" pet only! Counting on my database, in the last 15yrs, I have boarded 87 different Akitas, 52 of them male, I am fairly familiar with them, if your uncles Akita is "soppy" then its not typical of the breed, bit like a GSD that legs it when somebody knocks the door!
  16. Just because a dog has an inherited fault doesnt mean it will show itself it simply means it is carrying the fault...ie...it has an inherited weakness that is likely to show itself a lot easier than a dog not carrying the fault so it wouldnt necessarily be evident from a pup. By the sound of it anwl, your dog may just have tweaked it.....if you could possibly find out the parents / gr parents to your dogs history with this it may be a help, rest the dog up and see how it go,s mate, good luck. Possibly but I doubt it. Luxating patella is not lameness its "skipping" most dogs never need any t
  17. Well done for helping him, I too hope he made it, he deserves to. Dawn.
  18. They dont make ideal pets no, I have spoken to several owners as this is a dog I am particularly interested in. They tolerate bitches but rarely males, I was told if they cant dominate another dog, they kill it! excuse my french dawn ..but that sounds like a right load of shity drivvel ....surlely if the dogs brought up in the correct manner it wouldnt be so dominant ....down to the owners if you ask me ....chalky may be able to shed some light on there temprement ....as they say exspeariance is the key to knowledge ..not what you have heard ... Its what they told me Snoop, I dont think

  20. Mmm sounds more like an injury than an inherited patella fault, that would of been evident since a pup. I would totally rest the dog and see if there is improvement, if it is a strained cruciate ligament (back of the knee) exercise will make it worse, if it ruptures it will be mega bucks and no guarantee!

  22. What Bull breed? Its common in English Bull Terriers and in my opinion the advice you have been given is good. Jack Russells commonly get it, yes its hereditary and the dog or bitch should NOT be bred from, my Vet calls it "Jack Russell hop" Personally if it were my dog and he was in no pain and showed no signs of discomform, Id leave it alone. Best of luck with him. Dawn.
  23. I totally agree Dawn, as for you spotting Pine Martins on Cannock Chase...who knows? Thanks Simoman, Im not trying to be difficult, just stating the explanations that may be responsible for such sightings, I realise that many disagree, but like I said, its what makes the world go round. Its certainly nothing personal, especially to DS, I find his posts most interesting. Re: Pine Martens, Im sure they were, certain, and Im going there again tomorrow, same area, who knows I might be lucky! Dawn.
