  4. End to Statutory Suspension of Waterfowl Shooting in Scotland The current statutory suspension ends at 23.59hrs on Thursday 6 January. This is the result of the thaw that has begun and the improving conditions for waterfowl. As ever, though, BASC asks all waterfowl shooters to be aware of any signs that wildfowl, and particularly waders (including woodcock and snipe), are still under pressure from the recent severe weather, especially where inland wetlands are still frozen. 6. Only shot from one once years ago (got my first pinkfoot) at Skinburness. When I met the other fowler he asked me "where was my bucket?" When we got to the sunken crates I realised what they were for! There was around a foot (old money)of water in the crate which we laddled out and sat on a plank of 6 X 2 the mud then being head height. All good fun for a novice. The pubs up there were state owned and the beer dirt cheap.

  14. ***UPDATE*** 12th January 2010 After three days of milder coastal temperatures, England and Wales currently stand on day zero of severe weather conditions, according to jointly agreed criteria. Legal suspension of shooting would not be introduced before day 15. BASC believes many areas are still experiencing localised conditions which are having an adverse affect on birds. Because of the winter weather, BASC is maintaining its call for voluntary restraint to be exercised across England and Wales , where local conditions merit it, for the shooting of ducks (including reared malla
