  1. Its ok if you dont mind the smell of cloves...
  2. We have insurance for our lurcher through directline. The excess is 90 quid. Tested it out not long ago when she ripped her leg open again on some field flint. The total would have been £310!!! Andy
  3. Advocate for dogs will cure mange. About 25 quid for 3 months supply.
  4. Being part of the family she gets to have use of the sofa as well....
  5. Really sad that I hope you find another dog that will maybe be as good.. Andy
  6. My lurcher raids the bin at every oppertunity, she's a bugger! Anything in there that has a whiff of food about it gets taken outta the bin, licked and then chewed up. I've seen bits of foil and small pieces of food wrappers in her turds before. I guess at just over a year old she's still a pup and will steal anything thats laying around to chew on. She has plenty to occupy her in the way of bones and chew etc, the bin and its contents win over everytime though...
  7. One of the best things i ever done was to get a lurcher. Must be gutting for you, goodluck for the future Andy
  8. its when they hunt using their nose trying to find game mate. its a bit of a waste of time and also very dangerous in the dark. Cheers for the explanation I've seen it mentioned before and always wondered what it meant. Andy

  10. My next one will be called Mojo
  11. I just been out, crap weather down here in Hampshire at the moment though. I done as advised, with her on the lead walking upto a sitter in the beam. As soon as it bolted i let her go and bang, strike one! :-) Walked on a few more yards and saw another sitters eyes glowing in the light so we headed over to that one, same routine, we got close, it bolted and i let her run it down. 2 rabbits in 10 minutes. Im well pleased!!! Thanks for your tips Andy
  12. Thanks for the advice chaps, im determined to get her working properly
  13. How do you train your dog to hunt while lamping? My bedlington/whippet is just over a year old now and will take rabbits during the day, but out at night with the lamp doesn't get what to do. How do i get her to run down the beam, or at least take notice of whats in the beam? I've read that one of the best ways is to take her lamping with a more experienced dog, but theres no'one that i know of to ask, so im on me own with the training. Where do i start????? Andy
  14. Ok, i just cleaned it up again and sealed it together in a couple of places with normal superglue. Seems to be keeping it closed now I'll keep an eye on it and try to make sure no infection starts.
  15. I've never tried superglue on cuts before. I've seen that it does heat up alot when used for gluing other materials. Might be worth looking into though....
  16. You didn't say how deep the cut is,I'll guess it's not deep, I would take the dressing off tomorrow and let the bitch clean it herself. It went through all the layers of skin, maybe a little more than an eighth of an inch deep. It bled quite well and never bothered her when it happened. She's a bit ginger about putting weight on it so i guess it hurts....
  17. Cheers for the comments and advice chaps Its really done my head in this happening cos it means we cant go out lamping.... Lets hope the r+r gets it sorted! Andy
  18. My lurcher bitch cut her leg whilst out in the field. I can only guess she must have hit a bit of flint whilst she was bombing round after stuff. Its a clean cut, about three quarters of an inch long, halfway between hers paw and first leg joint. I washed the wound in salt water, dried it off and put some wound powder on it, covered the wound with a sterile dressing pad and held it in place with vet wrap. In your opinions, whats the best procedure for dealing with cuts on legs, what stuff do you use??? Is there a better way??? Im in half a mind to take the dressing off later and let
  19. My lurcher used to do that when she was a pup. I was advised to add some SA37 powder to her food and it did the trick Andy
  20. My lurcher bitch was doing this as well. We put it down to stinging nettles....
  21. Thats what im hoping! Cheers for all the advice folks Andy
