Trapperman I've just bought a telestep ladder from Killgerm they have an offer on at the moment telesteps are £150 normally around £200 and you get a free bag which they normally sell for about £30, (probably get them cheaper if you shop around)they reach about 3.3 metres which probably is't high enough to reach over house gutters etc but I wanted them for loft access etc. Andy it was the killgerm offer that got me thinking about them, are they good and sturdy. Yes Trapper they are good and sturdy, too many pints and pies have probably got me close to the recomended wei

Duck trapping and other methods
andybrock replied to JohnGalway's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
John, I know years ago they used to have tunnels over narrow dykes / ditches these tunnels were made of fishing net and as they drove the ducks down the ditches the tunnels narrowed so the ducks were penned in at the ends where they could be easily caught. I havn't got a clue what they were called but I'm sure more informed people on here will know and probably give you a better discription of how they worked. Cheers Andy -
Rob, My hands are like shovels also and I found the best place to get "real man" size gloves my local farm supply store, hope this helps Andy

As I said before I'm fairly new on here but is this JBS bloke the pestie who was on "Rouge Traders" a few years back?
-
Yeah, it was her picture that caught my attention
-
Well, thats the legal side sorted but as for my original question i'm still none the wiser
-
I agree Daveo I'm sure it is quicker, and at the end of the day we will all choose which ever method we are comfortable with as long as the animal is dispatched humanly.
-
Doesn't look like a good kill trap has it caught him around the nose? (apologies if i'm wrong) looks like an American trap?
-
Sorry guys and girls but I've not been on here all that long....but who is this JBS character sounds like the local village idiot to me.

Ill second that!! Does make a hell of a noise though. I use mine to despatch magpies in the larson, it doesnt leak so one Bulb lasts ages. I paid about £70 for mine new Dont buy a webley pistol they are not up to doing mink, I know from watching someone try I thought using a pistol to dispatch squirrels was bad enough, but MAGPIES? Is no-one capable of doing a proper risk assessment? I've often wondered how we ever managed to do our jobs before risk assesments were invented......what ever happened to common sense, where an adult can make a judgement if something i

I never bother pre-baiting an area I think it's more important to get you traps set in the right place and always make sure they are well bedded in by rubbing them back and to on the ground until I get them sitting flat on the floor, I also peg mine down at each side so they don't move when the rabbits enter them. Cheers Andy

Had a call from a lady yesterday claiming she was being invaded with little “red things†went and had a look and sure enough one side of her house was literally covered in them. It looks like they are coming up out of the ground between the flags on her patio. While they don’t do any damage she just wants to stop them getting in the house. I was going to try and spray a barrier treatment along the bottom of the house but before I do wanted to know if any one else has come across this before and would a barrier treatment be successful or would it be pointless because next time it rains it

Hiya Matt, Thanks for the advise, but surly a pellet to the head is a more humane way to dispatch a squirrel in a cage trap, If it’s done in a controlled way with the squirrel “cornered†with cage trap combs I can’t see what other method would be preferable. Trying to run it into a sack and then clobbering it over the head doesn’t look very professional in my opinion. Cheers Andy

I was thinking about a HW45 this seems to get good reports or the one stubby suggests crossman 2240?
-
I’m considering buying an air pistol for dispatching squirrels and mink caught in cage traps. I normally use an air rifle for this but in some situations an air pistol would be more discreet. Does anyone use an air pistol for this and if so which do you use? Cheers Andy

You Couldn't Make it Up........
andybrock replied to Rolfe's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I had a mole job in a garden last week and i'm guessing we are talking about the same very large company who had quoted £375 to gas the moles (which incidentley was working only 6' from the house). This chap was so pleased when I told him it would be £ he gave me an extra £20 to get myself a pint or two. -
Getting caught by the police would Probably just get you a slapped wrist, get caught by some mighty pissed off keeper and you may need to get used to taking meals through a straw!! It aint worth it get to know your local shoot help in the beating line in winter and when the season finishes they will let you go rabbiting.
