  1. And probably running from a blue light at some point.
  2. Beet not lifted can be hard on a dogs feet imo.It often holds hares but sometimes its better to walk it and move them off to run them later in the day.
  3. My experience is most dogs will catch on plough as long as it isnt too hard , thats why Hares get off as soon as they can. Lamping hares on plough doesn't sound much fun or much of a test for the dog.
  4. Two of them were shot on my local farm Sunday, they chased and bit a flock of sheep causing 5 to be put down and a further 45 to be treated by 2 vets who had to be called out.. Don't know about their stamina ,when the farmer got there they were laying down absolutely exhausted after their exploits.

    Oap's

I don't mean to be rude but ,as an OAP myself I think you should take heed of your neighbours advice, he only has your best interest at heart, and being older he is of course considerably wiser than your self,Tubby.
  6. ATB with All the best with himTommy, TK has had some good-uns.
  7. Its on the This Is Coursing Video I think, narrated by Sir Mark Prescott who got done ,along with Clarissa for attending a coursing meet. Inan any chance you could find the clip and post it up Its a Great watch They show it in real time then again in slow motion with some apt music backing it up. That Hare did what it had to to survive and breed on Speed, Agility, Guile, Intelligence it had everything and hopefully passed these on to its offspring. Its on video, and I havent the expertise to do so sorry M.
  8. When we were there Ted Walsh was halfway up on a rise with his camera on a tripod.A brace of dogs were slipped and a covey of partridges were flushed under their feet, the white collar leapt up and caught the partridge, but forfeited the run up, and the course.
  9. Yes the tea trailer sold coffee with a tot of brandy.I must have had six or seven. There were Pakistanis there with Barbour coats on and sandals.
  10. If I remember rightly the Price's had some decent dogs over the years.
  11. John Bromiley the Greyhound Coursing trainer had a dog in kennels called Peasedown Erin ,it pulled down every time it ran, often on the run up. It had a wonderful gob and was an ex tracker that had been barred for turning it's head, we tried to get a lining off it on to a lurcher bitch, the fee was very reasonable but the dog wouldn't go for it, we ended up using Straw Silks. I remember John talking about that dog Inan, if I remember right though it did line a few bitches... John judged the East Of England Lurcher show one year, I was his steward. He's a good judge of confirmation

  13. Would that be the EELC Club or the greyhound club? Greyhounds, the day in question was near six mile bottom. Lovely ground, I know someone who posts here that has ferreting permission there.
  14. What saddens me is the clips of kickups in snow and on plough and the mindset behind the person that thinks it praiseworthy and is happy to film it and post it on a public forum.
  15. i can imagin mate, that hare deserved the respect of every hunting man, just shows that to some the kill is more sought after than a piece of nature that was more than testing for dogs.should of definitely given it the respect it deserved and let it breed on Totally in agreement.

  17. Never had the best myself but usually had one that kept me and itself in meat, and provided some great sport too..

  20. I had a few lads down at my place one day,,,max was there and a friend of his that did the slipping at the Waterloo ,,,Aron ,,,he brought a young dog to give it a few runs to gee it up... It missed it's first two slips,,,,but it's 3rd and 4 th,,, it put away like and old pro,,,on it's 5 th run of the day it put a few bends in then stoped a keeled over,,,we got it up and it was ok after ,,,but just showed how easy it is to over exert them I was out with the John Jones Greyhound Club down on Romney Marsh , this was years ago,the Judge was on foot two dogs were slipped and they went u
  21. I had a black and white 3/4 Grey x 1/4 border collie called Rocky his father Straw Silks won the Sefton Trophy.I won a lot of doubled up stakes with Rocky , he always won the run up ,and got points early, but he seldom caught a hare, and if the course went on he faded after about a minute and a half. It would have been pointless putting him in single handed comps. Deerhound crosses that ran on the fens in our club often won doubled up meetings too, they had to do 3 courses and their speed usually won them points. But they were often found out on the single-handed days ,especially if it was lat
