  1. how much have you been offerd one at? they are a light, quality gun and are now sold under the FX badge by ben taylor at much higher prices than when they were marketed by webley. mine was a brilliant gun, light reliable, accurate and versatile. if its cheap enough and in good order buy it.
  2. i observe that i must of hit a sore point with you keeps. i stand by what i've said,i've seen quite a nimber of plummers over the years and many were too whippety for my taste. my arguement must hold some weight as did not the great man himself not introduce a bull terrier in to this stain of terrier in the not too distant past? even mr plummer himself must of thought they needed shoring up.
  3. with respect how can they be strong looking AND similar to plummers? nigh on all the plummers seen on here are femmer looking things with narrow heads and fine bone. with respect half and half, thats complete and utter bollox thanks for that constructive post keeps.i'm just passing on an observation.most all of the other terrier types seen are on average more substancial in physique than the vast majority of plummer terriers.

  5. you could look for a second hand BSA goldstar,RWS 300R or even a gamo shadowmatic which are all multi shot spring guns that can be picked up for under £200 second hand.
  6. thats too young for many a pup.to be safe give it chance to mature a little more.
  7. great pics as usual keeps.do you never take a camcorder?
  8. some nice pics but personaly i think the very best ratting pics are the ones just before the dog strikes at the rat.
  9. good move.you have to hit them to kill them and those biz pest are one of the most inacurate pellets i've ever tried.
  10. lurchers are a decent asset to any ratting team.
  11. not by your run of the mill compressor as a pre charge airgun works at much higher pressures that these run at. you can get compressors specaily for them but they are expensive.
  12. i'll be suprised if you get a penny as i believe it is RM policy that they don't accept guns of any type so i imagine they won't accept any responsability for this.
  13. Wasnt the best of places for a lurcher ratting, most of the rats caught were under low bushes in thick undergrowth (rhodendron bushes too) and there were no runners as the rats didnt get chance to escape far. He will come into his own ratting more out in the open - the game crops will be ideal for him He's just a pup btw and doing very well rabbiting, he's a very fast little dog he looks a nice type indeed. a lurcher can be a big asset when ratting under certain circumstances.
  14. Yeah that little bit of paper changes everything eh.Tell me whats the difference??Also the one in my profile is KC regd.Anything will kill rats. All my KC ones work to ground .KC doesnt mean jack shit its just a bit of paper its who breeds them .And how.Mine are all bred worker to worker and are KC. i would dare say yours are rather the exception than the rule. i'm guessing yours are parsons which are a relative new breed in KC terms so still retain working instinct moreso than the likes of cairns, kerrys etc etc which are mentioned in the original post.
  15. i dare say a lot of kc terriers will kill rats in small numbers but when they start to take some serious pain/exhaustion after killing larger numbers then its best left to the working bred terriers.
  16. good result that black terrier is a particularly handsome speciman.
  17. I agree with what you say. But if you think in time scale, ie the breeds you mention have been around a lot longer than the plummer terrier, maybe in time and given the chance the plummer may work as well as these breeds ?!?!?!?!?!!! in theory yes BUT the plummer terrier seems to be owned in general by ratters/rabbiters and is rarely tested with earth work,so the qualities to become a competent earth dog are or are being lost with every generation bred. and there seems to be a lot of untried plummers being bred from.
  18. thats a nice first post but i think its safe to say that if you are looking for a 'complete' working terrier then the plummer is more of a risk than say a working bred patterdale/fell or russel.
  19. Excellent words there in my humble opinion i'll go with that.
  20. In my opinion its a waste of a good bitch when there are still a few good dogs around to use (agreed there are not many but there are a few). Fine to use a plummer dog over a good bitch of any other breed or type, if you wish to create a 1/2 or 3/4 bred, which appears to be your preference, but to do it the other way round is just plain stupid. I noticed Millet was looking for a plummer bitch to use his dog over in order to keep a pup himself - he could have chosen to use a working bitch of any type or breed, but he is looking for a plummer (wonder why ) it might be rare and diffi
  21. pretty much like yourself keeps,i scratch about my local permission getting small numbers and now and again hit the 'jackpot' and get a decent bag. you could say i'm regular though as i get around my local permision most every day.i suppose i do alright just having the single dog as ratting is more effective in numbers.
