    In the 1970s there were lots of bird catchers ( dabbers ) around these parts. You could buy a fresh caught Goldie for about £1 and Redpolls and Siskins for 50p but Greenfinches couldnt be given away because they were so common and greedy. Now you are lucky to see any at all.

    An old birdkeeper and dabber i knew years ago told me that he sexed Goldies by the blaze. The red blaze on cock birds almost always extends behind the eye but on hens comes through the eye. Hope that helps.

    Don't know if it will be of any interest to anyone as taxidermy is not my thing but yesterday a Partridge flew into a window where my wife works and killed itself stone dead. It is in perfect condition (apart from being dead) and I am sure would make a lovely mount. If anyone is interested you are more than welcome to it .Do I just bag it and freeze it or is there a correct way to preserve it.

    I have just been given a Vulcan by my brother in law that he said had lost all its power even after a new spring and piston head had been fitted.On inspection i can see that the barrel has moved forward in the breech block away from the seal causing the power drop. A smart tap at the muzzel with a soft faced mallet put everything right for a couple of shots but it has moved forward again. Can someone tell me please how the barrel is locked in place .?

    Now call me an opermist but today i have been given permission to shoot about eighty acres of rape that i have been watching since before xmas.Up till now i have been a pot shooter but there are thousands of pigeons demolishing the farmers crop and so i foresee that there may be a few more than i can eat in the next week or two.My question is if i want to sell the surplus to a dealer how long can i safely keep them frozen.?Thanks in advance.

    Hello Fran I have a Mossberg 500 AT 3 shot pump that has a 26 inch barrel fitted with c-lecta choke.It has a wooden stock and forend. I bought it on a whim and have only used it twice as i cant get on with it.Would like to swap it for an over and under or a side by side hammer gun.Its in good condition .Let me know if its of any use to you.I live in Cannock.     Before i spend my hard earned wonga could anyone advise me as to whether i should buy a logun mk11 proffesional that i have been offered.I have owned a logun s16 untill recently and the only fault i could find with that was its weight and its lack of woodwork.It is in .22 cal and has a thumbhole stock and the condition is as new but i wont get to see it till next week so your advice would be appreciated before i part with my cash.Thanks for looking

    Hello mate Thanks for that but i am looking at it at the moment and i cant see any roll pin,and the centre rod is brazed into place.There is a steel cone on the front of the piston and i thought that this would have to be removed to take off the nylon retainer and washer but i havent a clue how this would come off.Cheers

    Before i get too ham fisted with it,can someone please tell me how to remove the leather washer and nylon cup from the airsporter piston.The only reason i need to remove it is that the tube with the slot in it has come adrift from the piston head and i need to re braze it back together.Thanks for looking
