  1. The book that I have found the best, some training methods he states are ones that have worked when all others have failed, is 'The New Complete Lurcher' by Brian Plummer.
  2. I don't know what you mean, jealous of Parker, do I know you? haha, it did spur me on to knuckle down. That is frustrating about Tyla, understatement for you I guess, I would be well 'expletived' off!
  3. Sounds very familiar, especially the awake but not interested in doing anything! Usually this means sniffing where other dogs have been or picking a fight with another dog that he deems lesser than himself just to show me up!
  4. He certainly is, his collie mind thrives on training I've found and so becomes so much more obedient with it. Go figure I suppose!
  5. Cheers pal, training him has not always been that easy, also due to my inexperience when I first got him I am having to play catch up with a few disciplines like the retrieve. I tell you what though the biggest help was reading Brian Plummer's The New Complete Lurcher book, where advice from people failed I have usually found an answer that works in the book. Like you say yours was, he is very biddable with most tasks its just tuning into what makes him want to do it, which sometimes is easier said than done!
  6. Just went out to exercise the hound and do a bit of retrieve training to keep it fresh in his mind.
  7. It sounds like she doesn't fully understand that you want the dummy retrieved otherwise she would retrieve it as if the gate/fence weren't there. I guess try to reinstate that the dummy is what you're wanting to be bought back, go over the top on praise or give a treat when doing a normal retrieve and that should fix it in her mind, then try with an obstacle. Hope that gets across what I meant to say!
  8. Good point! I think I was probably thinkin 'cool, a black rabbit, shoot it before it reaches its warren', I also wanted to keep the pelt but the myxi had made it all scabby.
  9. And black rabbits, so I've been told..........!
  10. Turned out it had myxi so hopefuly that cancelled out the bad luck!
  11. It did have quite an orange tint down its back yes! Totally forgot about the collar, wont need it till at least october either way I guess so yeah just hang on to it till I see you. nice one.
  12. If its not stated on the paper licence then they must not have any record of you wanting the mods, someone obviously messed up somewhere along the line, usually them! so yes you will have to apply for a variation and pay for it. I had the same problem, they left my .243 mod off for some reason when I got mine. Hassle...
  13. I did see it, was interesting although I got agitated at how the 'mrs' would cry at everything be her happy, scared or sad.
  14. Remmy Accu tips are my choice for my sako always, a good round for the whole spectrum of quarry. As someone else mentioned though, they can make a mess due to the polymer tip so I would go for head shots on roe although I suppose I cannot condone this with a view to good practice! I mainly tackle fallow with mine with a head or neck shot. To sum up, they do the job! Let us know what you think in comparison to the Feds.
  15. A pretty good bag when hunting wasn't exactly at the fore front of my mind! Was pushing the fire up with the loader and managed to spear me a bunny straight through the hind quarters, had quite an alarmed expression on its face, turned out to stil be alive, dispatched the poor bugger.
  16. Any one know what the maximum size of image you can upload on the site is? it seems the majority of mine are way too big. How can I scale them down to get them on here? cheers people.
  17. Yeah I registered with them about a year ago now and have not heard anything from them since so have kind of written them off, cheers either way.
  18. There was an unusualy high amount of keepering jobs in this weeks shooting times i noticed. I concur, yes there were a lot, I applied for all the ones I thought I was suitable for, got one reply today saying that due to a restructure within the estate the position has changed. A polite way of saying I was unsuccesful I reckon!
  19. Hello forum, once again I am requesting any information on any keepering or similar job vacancies. I have tapped all the obvious sources i.e. shooting times, every imaginable Internet site etc, but to no avail. A Lot of these openings are via word of mouth experience tells me so I thought I would branch out to you guys. I'm 22, college trained, about six years experience (including part and full time), good references, shotgun/FAC, etc etc.... Any leads would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading.
  20. More than likely its just the swelling from the trauma of whatever cracked the nail in the first place seen as shes not lame. Best thing to do is bathe in warm salt water 2-3 times a day. If after a couple days there's no change, its worth seeking a vet in case its something more sinister that could impair her running terminally i.e. worst case scenario, hair line fracture in the toe. With regards to running her, just use common sense.
  21. if the crack is so that its gonna flex every time the foot comes into contact with the ground and theres a danger of it breaking right off, use a bit of superglue. The original intended use for superglue was for wound closure during the vietnam war so it is 100% safe for humans and dogs. This is alot more convienient than wrapping the whole foot up in a dressing. Also bathe it first in warm salt water. Will just grow out naturally from then on. Hope this helps.
