  1. Thanks very much hughes_jh, that was quite helpful. I think I could get 2 landowners permissions, I'm sure my uncle whos a farmer would let me shoot on his land, and I could ask my other uncle or the farmer that owns the land behind me. Looked at some prices for gun cabinets, bloody 'ell... I think for the whole setup it will cost around 500 euro. Really don't know whether I could afford that with college and flights all at the moment, but we'll see! At least I'm more knowledgable of the process now. Would be just my luck that I'd get the gun and all and either there'd be no rabbits a
  2. Okay, thanks kev1986. And what about the different types like co2, pump up ones, spring ones? Excuse me if I come accross as a complete fool!
  3. Hi, I am looking to apply for an firearms licence in Ireland (required in Ireland even for air rifles). You have to I think buy the gun before you apply for the licence in Ireland and put the serial no. on the application form. I would like to know what gun to apply for. I am new to air rifles. Don't know whether to get a recoilling or recoilless rifle. Needs to not be too expensive either because I don't have much money. I want to hunt mainly rabbits, but also some woodpigeon and crows. I want to preferably get a .177 type as I have a tin of .177 pellets at home. (Posted this in the other

  5. Well there is that too! But if you think about it like how many say, labradors would be likely to break their legs in the same situations as the whippet were? Bigger stronger bones, different genetics. I suppose there are a lot of variables though
  6. And about the broken legs, in my opinion it would be mostly bad genetics. Diet would deffo come into it when they are developing etc. but theres only so far a bad diet can go really, whippets have been bred to be skinny and we all know how breeding can go too far. Combined with a bad diet, well thats asking for trouble! Genetics no. one, food no. 2 is what I would say.
  7. Dogs are omnivores mate... Mainly carniverous omnivores. Studied it at college... Also you gotta remember dogs are not exactly the same as wolves, they've been bred for thousands of years and a lot of that time they were eating less meat than wolves so they can do fine on a diet with some non meat food. Not disagreeing with what you're sayin tho bout dogs having proper meat in their diet and staying away from commercial crap. Just thought I'd put that out there!
  8. Oh and theres a saying in Russia. My dad met a fella from the Russian army and he told him. If you have a gun, and theres one Doberman, you're fine. If you have a gun and theres 2 Dobermans, you're in trouble. If you have a gun and theres 3 Dobermans, you're dead. Dobies work best in teams.
  9. Oh no, whoever posted the pic of the chained Dobie - chained dogs, very bad idea!! Unless you want a mentally ill dog on your hands. Heres my baby- He's a 2 year old Yugoslavian working line Doberman. Smartest dog I've ever met. The pictures were taken probably over a year ago. He's about 28 inches to the shoulder last time I checked which was ages ago. His hands are nearly bigger than mine! lol And one when he was a baby, don't know how to rotate it -
  10. Im a horse person. But I've never had a horse, been riding since I was young. Some real nice pictures there!

Wow, I always thought they just stopped when they got to you! My ma got chased by cows when she was a kid and she fell and all they did was stand and look at her, lol I've never gone near cows with calves though, and I always seek out a few escape routes before going into the field.
  12. Hmm...very weird. In Ireland no one I know of even asks for permission to hunt, I've never heard of farmers complaining.
  13. I just hate to see any animal wasted. If I had my way, the badger skins would be saved and sold.
  14. Hey, aaropigeonplucker, don't mind those kids, you're not hunting for fun, its for food so they don't really have an argument. You look like a nice kid anyway. Once you get past primary school people are a lot more tolerant. I didn't used to hunt in primary school, I was known as a real animal lover (still am), but now when I mention hunting to anyone, no one really gives a sh*t! (No one really cares about animals in Ireland anyway) I agree. I don't generally tell people unless I know they'll be cool with it. Like whats the point, only to show off and try and appear tough?
  15. The Wind in The Willows, thats the name of it!
  16. Oh ok, thanks. Wasn't sure if you had moles in England. I guess Moley from those Toad Hall stories should have been a clue...
  17. Right..... Simple question here people....what the hell are these holes/mounds??? Either you know or you dont...
  18. When I was in East Yorkshire a little while ago, there were all mounds of earth on grassy places at the sides of the roads and in fields. I assume they were beside/around holes, I didn't see too closely. Are there moles in England?
  19. Hmm... Ok. Yeah, I think it would be best to cut it up first, lol, imagine the look on a custom workers face checking the bag, full of skinned rabbits, haha I'll give it a go anyway, if it gets taken at least it was free, minus pellet costs....
  20. Does anyone know if you are allowed to bring raw meat from England to Ireland in your checked-in baggage? I want to bring hunted meat home to my parents for my dogs.
  21. Fair play if your dog can catch a squirrel! Would have to be pretty open ground I'd imagine
  22. Copied directly off the box I have. Anyone know where I can get these old pellets/slugs??? Guessing they don't make them anymore. I have one left in the box. I have an old Diana 15. The normal .177 calibre pellets wont shoot far in it and I have to beat down the edges a bit to get them to fire. I need .177 calibre ones, they're a different shape though. When standing end down, they are the shape of a romanesque arch, pretty much. Just like an upside down 'U', but a bit shorter. Not like the new pellets which have a shuttlecock type shape. They are 4 1/2 m/m, No. 1 bore. Cheers
