  1. i was thinking lab right enough but never thought about a spaniel. most springers that I have come across are a bit out of control. I know there are good ones, just my experience, which is limited right enough. The only reason I was thinking in teh house is that we live in teh town and not sure it is fair to have the dog in a kennel with kids running about etc. The risks of barking, or even worse some thieving p***y bar steward pinching it are what worries me. Keep teh advice coming guys. Many thanks Ali
  2. This may well cos mass debate but here goes. I am looking for my first dog, that would be used for picking up and general rough shooting. We have a couple of rivers on our ground which hold plenty duck, so would like to be able to retrieve from the water. We have deer as well, so a nose for blood would be good. Now the big questions, am i expecting to much from the dog to do all these things and if no what kind of dog should I be looking at. I dont have the experience or the time required to train a dog to its full potential and feel that it would be unfair. I know I can buy a trained dog,
  3. dont think it matters if it is a single or double cab, as long as you can put more than a tonne in the back you are safe, and reagrded as commercial., loose the fancy tops, dont tell the tax man and stick with Ifor, and you dont skirt around the limits
  4. they are very similar to teh goddrich all terrain, i will try and post a picture of them, but I rate them as a very good tire. that looks like it may be the mud terrain on your photo spiderpig.
  5. morning Folks, we have got a river and about 700 acres of stubble in land from teh moray coast, I havent managed up yet this week but teh farmer is reporting big numbers of geese coming into teh stubble. Not sure where they overnight, could be the coast or maybe echt. more investigation required. What is the best way to take these on, would it be to lay decoys before daylight? and wait and see if they come in? Tips and pointers gratefully recieved.
  6. I have general rabber AT 2's and done around 12000 miles so far. I reckon the way they are wearing they should be good for around 30000 maybe a bit more. and tehy are good on teh farm as well.
  7. We pay for our sporting rights, that gives us deer, pheasants, duck, geese, pigeons, rabbits and foxes etc. The only thing we are asked to leave alone is the hares. I would love to get it for free but unfortunately in an area of estates and big land owners finding farms that are not already shot over is quiet hard. I am sure people have been upset by us taking on a sporting lease of this farm but, evryone else wanted to shoot the vermin for free, and maybe get the odd deer, or shoot the game and the pigeons and rabbits can do what they want etc, in the end the owner got fed up, put a price on
  8. out on our new ground yesterday and saw a fine range of, yep you guessed it does. AHHHH i bet they will all go to ground in a couple of weeks time. Glimpsed one buck having a sun to himself, but he got a sniff of me and was gone.
  9. Nomad stalking jacket Kept me try plenty otf times in the light rain of Skye. I reckon if it keeps you dry on Skye it will keep you dry anywhere. Nice and warm too
  10. the ground we have teh farmer doesnt want teh hares shot either, which is cool. It is good to just watch them and teh way they run around. Gathering knowledge when they are plentiful enough to shoot again
  11. get a discovery, I get about 500 miles to a tank around town and with teh NFU I am £350 fully comp for anyone over 25. Parts are cheap as well.
  12. Aye, they are all over the place. We shoot up around Huntly, and there are a couple of bits that are pretty heavy with them. They are mainly in the cattle parks and hard to get at the moment. Cattle will be going inside in a week or two and then we have nearly all teh ground stock free and in stubble, so time for the rabbits and jinky to disappear.
  13. Thanks for the welcome, folks. Hopefully manage to get out and about this weekend, spenty most of last night getting the new lamp wired up and ready. Need to zero the 22 and then we are of. yipeeeee
