should we be trying a pheasant shoot with this weather. It would be a walk round with a few mates and some dogs. Ground is in deeside and teh snow is probably a bout a foot deep now out in the open. Just wondering should we leave them in piece and just feed them and get them once the snow goes or at least thaws a bitty. thoughts greatly appreciated.

My wife had a bad horse riding accident earlier this year and has decided that, that is enough of that. She has always fancied shooting but not sure if she wants to come out with our syndicate, certainly not to begin with. Does anyone know of any female syndicates or are there any women on here looking for a new start to teach. Any help gratefully recieved. Cheers

Thanks for the replies folks. Just need to find some rubber now and get a transport box. That leads to the next questions what type would be best and where to get it from. He has a cage for teh house but not sure that would be right for using, might work if cargo strapped down. recommendations gratefully recieved

dogs would be in the tub part in the back, not internal to seats etc. Thought about gluing some rubber on, but wasnt sure if there were any actually things around for it. Even if I went for a travel box, he wouls still have to jump up on the tail gate and could slip across and leg drop down. Does anyone have any experience of what I am talking about or am i talking nonsense.

evening folks, two questions for you tonight. what is the best way to work on training my lab pup to stay in the back of my landrover (110 double cab) and not want to jump out all the time. Secondly. Does anyone know of anything to fit on the tail gate or the tub that will cover the gap between the two when the gate is open. I am worried about himn breaking a leg by it slipping in the gap. Thoughts and tips greatly recieved.

Got my new dog a couple of weeks ago. yipee, he is great.10 week old black lab dog i will get some pics of him when he stays still enough, or i get my camera skills honed. The breeder recomended taking control by anthea lawrence as it is a good book for a novice like me, and step at a time it seems to be working. we only have a few accidents now, and that is usually our fault not his. he is doing grand on teh lead anbd stays tight at heel with very little instruction, sitting is coming on fine. he seems fantastic and i just hope that i dont spoil him by not being a good enough trainer.

cheers Fozzy, that is what i thought but i wasnt sure. The ground I have is no bother for sundays as we already shoot pigeons, rabbits etc. I just couldnt find anything anywhere about deer.

My kawasaki 360 kept in a lean too at the end of the house isured by the NFU was about 200 quid a year. -
thanks for the comments folks. I have been looking for a dog for a while and was looking at some fully trained ones, then I got sent to work over in Norway so that shelved those plans. I am now back and working in the UK. I still have to work occasionally away but not the same. I am not sure what is best here as it seems that the view is that unless it is going to be a full working dog kennelled etc it is not going to be much use. Surely it is possible to train a dog to a standard that works for a rough shoot with some friends and can still be a family pet, I am not looking to go to trails

They are not my pups, i have just seen them locally and wondered if they would be good as a working dog but also as a family pet. I would ideally have teh dog kennelled but i would think i will loose to wife and kids. I had always fancied a lab, as that is what we had when i was young, however for rough shooting i keep neing told and hearing that the spaniels are far better for flushing etc. I just thought this may give the best of both worlds and wanted peoples views before i went any further.

do you think they would be decent enough as a family pet as well. Have a young family and they will want to be involved with it. If I got one would it be ready for next year

I have seen some lab spaniel cross pups for sale. Two questions would these make good rough shoot dogs and would they be suitable for a first time trainer. Cheers

Saw no signs and heard nothing but the birds. say a few beasts away in teh distance on another farm but not a site of anything. Thought we would have at least heard some barking from teh big forest behind but nowt.

had our hob done on tuesday, 50 quid for the vasectomy and 20 quid for him to be microchipped, vet wont confirm him as sterile for up to weeks after. hope that helps

not sure where this sits in this argument, but what about when various bodies inn scotland decree an area of forestry has to be cleared of deer and stalkers are brought in to clear the palce regardless of sexes and seasons. is that not a similar situation. And if illegal should these government bodies not eb held to account
