  1. Hello mate Its always been traditional to start piking in october. The last few years with the winters getting later and later i have been not really getting serious until mid November. The trouble with the warmer months is they fight to hard and often do themselves harm. Also once the frosts have come the prey fish shoal up and location is easier. Watch for the grebes and cormarants hunting and the pike wont be far away. TIGHT LINES
  2. how was that caught? The perfect size for a pike livebait. I have taken a lot of big pike over the years on pikelets.
  3. what if theres no brambles where your ferreting, or if its a large warren, prehaps 20ft away from an entrance hole Wish all the burrows i work are that shallow id two 7 foot digs last year and my mate pedro had one id of like to see a bit of bramble pulling those rabbits out No seriously i still have a very old one its about twenty years old and still works. Was thinking of investing in a new one this winter. Any surgestions. I am only just getting back into it this winter after a long time out. I just hope we get some good frosts down south this winter

  5. Hello mate Most important thing with your ferrets is that they get to know you. Regular handling and getting use to your smell, voice, touch, and the dogs you will be working them with. Will make them work better as a team. I am new on here and only just getting back to the sports i love to. And its been a lot longer than you my friend. Ferreting has been around for thousands of years even the ancient egyptians use to do. I would suggest you start your ferrets on small warrens. maybe six holers and the like with nets. Leave the dogs at home or teathered away from

  9. Hello I left a thread on the new members section but i thought it probably better on here. I have just come out the forces and i wondered if you think it is to late to get back into keepering/ As a lad i trained at a north Essex estate where i went to colledge and qualified. though in those days, The early mid eighties there was no official qualification for gamekeeping. Do you think it is to late to get back into it?? I do miss it and i havent forgotten a lot. thepriest
