  1. I always have started my pups of 4 and 5 months ferreting with nets giving them the taste and a chew up and genrule mootching and shooting and then 6 months or so on wards on the lamp and still ferreting and mooching just steadily build them up as they get older and also as they show capability a dog that is missing a few who's not quite getting the hang of it I would leave him longer a dog that gets into and keeps killing why not it does them the world of good in my opinion everyone is different but I feel the more you do when their younger the more they learn I don't mean running the guts ou
  2. Cheers mate I'm just going take him steady a couple of sensible runs and home once or twice a week and abit of morning ferreting hear and their up to the end of the seasion the next month or so then hopefully come next winter he be over a year old and already no abit and get him going properly then on to the red ones ? fingers crossed anyway

  4. Pups had his 1st rabbit on the lamp tonight 2nd time out took him Sunday and ran 2 but he missed them so I didn't want to break his heart so come home so tonight when again missed the 1st 1 but ran it very well 2nd rabbit was sitting about 20 yards away I shined the lamp on him and he pulled to run up the beam so I let him go so he ran to the end of the beam worked that out on his 4th ever run when he got near it off the rabbit went to the headge over the ditch it went in the headge followed by the dog not stopping for no cover pushed it back out across the field to another ditch it the ditch
  5. Yes single and £21 type in Google balls of steel Sussex his got loads of sizes in their good price
  6. Just ordered my 1st flat band set from wasp as I seen loads using them so though I would try one do you think this will be a good set up I went for the heavier bands as I've seen most that shoot these use 6 - 9.5mm ammo so I didn't go for the lighter bands as though they might not travel the same I'm still using tubes elastic on my old style catapult so just had 1000 12mm steels delivered so didn't want them to be no good do you reckon this set up will be good for that size ammo I'll attach pictures of the new set and bands ordered and also a pic of my old style I've had for years
  7. Lesson 1 with the horse whip this morning and a long ish lead 1st sheep he whent to run I smacked him then kept walking to wards the flock 2nd sheep he pulled to go a little bit smacked him then he looked at one run and stuck his ears up so smacked him after that he didn't wanna walk near the flock so I praised him up and carried on calling him toward me and stroaking hum loads for the rest of the walk so he didn't get scared of me no saying it's cured but will continue to walk him round the sheep alot more and hopfully the stick don't have to come back out
  8. He has abit of everything in him bull grey deerhound whippet bedlingtom and collie bit the collie is so little it wouldn't make him do that like you say I belive it's just the age when I had him out amongst the the sheep he wasn't interested in chasing nothing then still verry young then the farmer had took the sheep in for mating with in that time I've got him doing some work just ferreting and genrule hunting if a back bird moves in a bush his behind it now his put them back out in the field for lambing his changed like he thinks everything that moves he has to chase I've never had this prob
  9. He was fine about a month ago walked him off the lead through stock before I started to show him some work now his hunting and killing his seemed to have changed and then the other day I was walking my lane and he just jumped the fence and was off behind them and today he jumped the gate at home when I was at work and my uncle let him round the yard he whent in the field opposite he said he had such a job to get him but I need to stop it as all the land I hunt is mainly sheep I'm going to try lead walk and a horse whip
  10. Lovely cheers if can't stop him any other way will try one of them and it won't be tickle it will be wallop ?
  11. What's a good one to get I will try other methods of walking on a lead and giving him a slap and a hard no when he pulls to them if not I'll buy a collor
  12. Ohh no i did I really cracked him 2 or 3 times but he still never learnt I wasn't walking a sheep field the 2nd time only the road but he got over the fence and started chasing them and just whent to a deth ear but now I'm only going to lead walk him untill I can solve this issue I'm going to lead walk him amongst the sheep and when he pulls at them give him a crack with a stick but I just don't want him getting timmed
  13. Both idears I have considered more the walking on the lead one as most sheep are out in fields now for lambing I was going to walk him and just take a riding crop and give him a smack up the bum every time he pulled and say no as I say up untill 2 weeks ago I could walk him through sheep with in 5 yards but since I've started showing him some working out ferreting and that so his now chasing his on everything that moves
  14. Looking for some advice I've done nothing no different with my pup than I have with my previous dogs who wouldn't look twice at sheep my pups 6 and half months and since a pup same as I did with the others I've walked him through sheep to have him used to them his been fine up untill 2 weeks ago somethings changed asoon as he sees them his of behind them not in a vicious way just playing chasing them not attacking but I want to nip it in the bud before it turns vicious as most my ground is sheep I can't have a dog that's not stock broken as I say from 9 weeks old I've walked him amongst sheep
  15. Been on you tube on game keeper john can't seem to find anything about the law
  16. Cheers mate will look it up but yes as a teenager I never left the door with out one round the lanes we used to walk miles and I just started getting back in to shooting again and I don't wanna get done over something silly as I have my gun licence and that and don't want to loose it over getting took for a catapult as I belive they do class them as a fire arm
  17. Yes dosnt sound a bad idear abit simlar to having a baseball bat aslong as you have a ball but yes hopfully some one can give us the full law book so incase of a tug we no what we can and can't do because some coppers will try it on even if they are in the wrong
  18. Could anyone give me abit of advice on the law so I no my rights I was keeping my catapult and some shots in my middle poket in my truck so it's always their for when I'm having a genrule drive about and see anything but as I travel up to work in it aswell I've been taking it out incase I get pulled and forget to grab it when I'm either going for a mooch with the dogs or if I'm out round the lanes and see something sevrel times I got to get it and relised I left it home am I ok to leave it in the truck 24/7 or can I only have it in their or even on my person durying hunting trips that I can pr
