  1. <Im not includeing Hatton here> but we've all seen it in the past with British boxers that are groomed on Nobodies or has beens! and yep they win a world title from a guy who was past his best and ready to relinquish his title, but then they come up against a guy who wanted it as much as they do, and bang! they've lost it either straight away or in a couple of defences, the only guy they seems to still be steaming through aponents and defending his crown well is Mr Joe Calzaghe.....

:clapper: tell me about it mate! thank god I'm a UTD fan ;)

    Jasper

Jasper you didnt only hit the nail on the head, you smashed it through the floor !! the trouble is....it applies to ricky hatton more than anyone and you SHOULD be including hatton......his was a typical example....the 2 world class fighters he has ever fought were washed up and the only other time he went up to welter he struggled......to be fair i like hatton he,s a genuine guy,but he has serious limitations as a fighter......the mayweather fight last night went pretty much exactly as i thought....it was clear after 4 rounds hatton could not get to floyd, but what plan could he change to ? he couldnt,he only knows one way to fight, mayweather adapted to hattons style quicker than i thought and used hattons own strengths against him,his disatnce was perfect and constantly forced hatton to smother his own work by getting too close....his timing was perfect and looking back it was a relatively straight forward one sided fight......2 judges had it 89 - 81....1 judge had 88-82...personally i gave hatton round 5 and that was all.......

The fight was a classic case of a fighter ( hatton ) having beaten a few washed up stars...then running into a star in his prime(mayweather)....had tszyu and castillo been in thier prime you could probably have expected the same result....its a fight that hatton had to take, but too much was against him to win....thankfully he is healthy and will come again....hopefully giving junior witter a chance in a massive domestic fight.

    BELIVE ME LADS ,

I HOPE IAM WRONG ................... BUT EARL SOUNDED A LITTLE PUNCHY TO ME , I HOPE HE RETIRES

    DUCKWING :big_boss:

It was no secret that earl was not in good shape for this fight and it showed...he had very little punch resistance and even though he is still only 28/29 he has had a lot of wars.....thats to take nothing away from khan....the kid improves with every fight and is massive at the weight....

  3. If you think graham earl is a stepping stone for anyone your wrong...but his best days are behind him and apparently he,s not in great shape at the moment....that said i think khan would beat him anyway....i dont like the kid but he,s got talent speed and strength...

  4. got to disagree with all that. hatton looked in far better shape, was cut to the bone defanition in his back was was excellent.

as for hydrating back up , they will both be doing that not just mayweather

Tomo hatton looked well dont get me wrong.....but he certainly wasnt cut to the bone,he looked hydrated and healthy.....like a man who hasnt had to cut weight...which he hasnt....mayweather was bang on the limit....by fight time he will be up around 155 while hatton will be the same weight he was last night.....

I think hatton let himself down a little at the weigh in,.....cool calm and collected is better

  5. :

mayweather will be about 149/150 when they fight he'll be hydrating himself day

He will be a lot more than that mate....come fight time mayweather will be up around 155 at least....i expect hatton to be at a full 10 pound disadvantage.....hatton look nowhere near as fine at the weigh in as normal simply because he didnt have to cut weight....the weight hatton was at last night is probably the weight he will enter the ring at.

  6. anyone on here, local to essex that does a collection service??

I got a concrete sectional garage that I won off e bay, located in a night club car park in the dartford town which I wanna dismantle (couple hours) and get it bought back here to grays, essex

probably about 22 3x3 concrete panels, and 12 posts, so reckon will need a 7.5 tonne lorry, flatback????

have cash waiting if anyone can help, plus cups of coffee on our return

Cant help direct mate but can get you a cheap days hire close to that area...50 quid for the day 7.5 ton

  7. ?................... Sit at home and moan about it!!!

Has the time come to act or have we left it to late?

Ive said it before and i,ll say it again.......this will be the only choice we are left with as decent british people so why not now rather than later..... www.bnp.org.uk

  8. !

YES YOU MISSED THEM . YOU WERE WATCHING A DIFFRENT FIGHT FROM THE REST OF THE WORLD

I think leonard missed them as well....his face at the end of the fight you would never have thought he had been in a fight !!! and for a man who had barely fought in 4 years who last time out had been put on his ass by a nobody like kevin howard !!

Hagler was possibly the best middleweight ever but styles make fights and hagler would never have beaten leonard if they had fought 100 times....hagler has even admitted this since !

  9. Yep i make you right bill......the thing giving me doubts is the simple fact that IF mayweather does deal with hatton for the first 5 rounds, what does ricky do then ?....pressure fighters only have one way to fight i just cant see what he will do...whereas mayweather is one of the best when it comes to adapting to his opponents style.....you mentioned benn/graham/naz etc....for me naz and graham had the reflexes to get away with that style.....benn didnt and im not sure mayweather does either....im predicting mayweather to stop hatton around 6 - 9....but id genuinely love to see hatton win,it would be the biggest brit win since turpin/robinson back in the 50,s in my opinion....

As for the leonard - hagler fight....did hagler actually land 1 punch on leonard the whole fight ? if he did i missed it......i won a nice few quid on that fight leonard was around 9 to 1 for a points win....hagler was made for him !

  10. Thats a damn good post bill and you make some interesting points.... a few things that caught my eye...one being the weight....i believe mayweather come fight time is going to have at least 7 lb over hatton....as you know mayweather has fought at this weight for a while now, hatton did once and moved straight back down because it didnt suit him.....mayweather is naturally the bigger man even though he himself started at a lower weight.....this doesnt mean we can expect mayweather to be the stronger man but it does mean that once the weigh in is over mayweather will rehydrate healthier and come fight time be naturally bigger.

I believe the thing that can go in hattons favour is mayweathers tendancy to pull away from punches instead of blocking them, nigel benn had this flaw and was often caught by long reaching punches....if hatton can reach in without getting caught coming in he has a great chance of catching him off balance....its a flaw mayweather has had all his career that has never been corrected, and it could sui hattons style.

Lastly, the point about quality of opposition....i feel mayweather has fought a far better quality of opponent than hatton even though some people question mayweathers quality of opponent.....but ive said before, hatton has been very well managed....without doubt the best 2 opponents hatton has faced is tszyu and castillo....both of who were at the very final stage of their career, what some might call " washed up ".....its always a risk as we then think he has beaten a big name and we make comparisons....calzaghe is the same unfortunately......all that said, hatton has a great chance and the style to beat mayweather, whether he can im not sure, but can only hope.

  11. just seen a clip of hatton in training....must admit although he looks sharp i hope he hasnt overtrained....noticed the big cold sore and patches of yellow marks on his face...its normal to have skin problems when in vigorous training....cold sores are normally a sign of fatigue/tiredness or emotional upset.......think the weigh in will be a good indicator.

  12. hatton wont be below 145 mate....he wont give him 2 pound let alone 7.....a lot of this fight will depend on the referee......hatton does a lot of holding in a fight to get close...if the ref keeps splitting them it will be to mayweathers advantage....joe cortez is a very experienced referee....but he does live in america :hmm:

  13. As every other englishman i would love to see hatton win the fight it would be great for british boxing....but i just cant see it....i disagree with a few who have said hatton can adapt,he cant,he is a pressure fighter and pressure fighters dont do well off te back foot...that said mayweather can fight off the back foot and is comfortable there, which makes for an interesting fight....mayweather is technically superior and i dont think for 1 minute he has underestimated hatton....the one thing hatton has in his favour,is good old fashioned hunger and determination.....but in every other department mayweather has him unfortunately...and what he also has over him which most people are forgetting...is size ! hattons only fight up at welter he looked poor against mediocre opposition and moved straight back down...now he,s fighting the world champ, and a good world champ.......i like hatton he,s a good guy,the down to earth " pint and a pie " act is wearing a bit thin now.... all the same i really hope he wins this fight..... but i pick mayweather by late round stoppage.

  15. Harry Redknap for me......firstly,i cant see any of the names mentioned so far even wanting the job....so it only leaves the rest of the english bunch( redknap probably being the best ) or another foreigner...quite like the idea of rafa benitez, plus he seems interested and has good experience of english and foreign football, something that could go against redknap.......failing that.......................Eddie the Eagle :toast:

  16. Mmm sounds more like an injury than an inherited patella fault, that would of been evident since a pup. I would totally rest the dog and see if there is improvement, if it is a strained cruciate ligament (back of the knee) exercise will make it worse, if it ruptures it will be mega bucks and no guarantee!

Just because a dog has an inherited fault doesnt mean it will show itself it simply means it is carrying the fault...ie...it has an inherited weakness that is likely to show itself a lot easier than a dog not carrying the fault so it wouldnt necessarily be evident from a pup.

By the sound of it anwl, your dog may just have tweaked it.....if you could possibly find out the parents / gr parents to your dogs history with this it may be a help, rest the dog up and see how it go,s mate, good luck.

  17. Slipping patella IS a hereditary problem.....that doesnt mean it will ever come to the surface of course but obviously there is more chance it will in any offspring......as most of us bull breed lovers will probably know it is a fairly common problem....not to be confused with the actual injury of breaking the ligament,i forget what its called now ??...the same as what paul gascoigne did years ago...the ligament that stabilises the patella....

A slipping patella can but is not necessarily brought on by a heavy landing type of injury but is instead just the basic problem of having a fairly heavy but strong hard pulling type of dog...typical of most bull breeds.....bouts of hard exercise will normally bring it on and as far as im aware corrective surgery rarely solves the problem completely.....main thing to remember is like i say...it IS hereditary....sorry if thats put a downer on things and i wish you well with your dog.

  18. I think your spot on Tommy.....lets not forget that haye has been saying for 2 years that he intended moving up after winning the title, its nothing new....maccaranelli can sit talking all he wants anyone who knows even a little about the sport can easily see that maccaranelli is almost a fraud ! i dont like to speak bad of any boxer but i read a bit of something he wrote today about how he thinks haye is ducking him and it makes me sick to be honest.....

maccarenellis quality of opponents throughout his career is bordering on disgraceful !.... his last few fights have been a joke...bobby gunn..azzaoui !!!....he even announced a bout against sellers who had been retired 3 years and was totally finished...he hyped sellers up as a frighteningly dangerous opponent only for the british boxing board of control to refuse to sanction the fight it was such a joke !...when haye agreed to fight maccaranelli a while back it fell through, now haye makes it clear for ages he is moving up to heavyweight and enzo calls him out !

maccaranelli won the meaningless wbu title against mark hobson a man he had already convincingly beaten earlier in the same year !...haye has just won the wbc,wba world titles in his 20th pro fight.....who needs who most ?

Had maccaranelli shown more willingness to be more than just a calzaghe undercard fighter he might not have to build up hopeless opponents in order to appear like its an achievement beating them !

    Rant over :D

  19. Gnasher styles make fights, and i honestly think Haye is made for Enzo.Whether Enzo is small for a cruiser or not,he has power in both hands, and most importantly has a defence and a chin,i don't remember Enzo ever being bullied by another cruiserweight, and i dont think Haye could bully him either.Fair play to Haye he won two belts last night, but as you rightly pointed out WHO is there to beat at cruiserweight, its always been a weak division.Maccarinelli is just like his stablemate Calzaghe, down to earth and honest. They don't have the glamour factor,so don't really get the exposure or the respect there talents deserve.Haye has one way of winning, and that is landing the big punch,if he had to go into the trenches he'd be in big trouble.Mormeck ran out of steam last night, had he not i'm sure he'd still be world champion,i don't see Enzo running out of steam, and he'd go head hunting Haye from the first bell, where as Haye and his glass jaw, would have to cover up,therefore nullifying his only weapon. One thing you can be sure of in boxing though is "one punch can change everything".All the best mate,Bill

Yep fair comment and your right styles make fights....i just feel maccaranelli suffers the same troubles as his stablemate....a total fear of losing a fight !....maccarenelli has more experience than haye yet look at the difference in opposition of their last fights...macc fought a virtual nobody haye fought the world number 1......i respect the fact that haye put himself in a do or die position for that fight last night and went to the world number 1 fighters back yard and put his cards on the table...its a rare thing with british fighters these days and in my opinion that is the only reason calzaghe doesnt get the respect he craves....i wouldnt be surprised if macc now had a third fight with mark hobson !!.....style wise i believe maccarenelli would look good for a few rounds until hayes natural power wore him down.....cheers for your thoughts mate..

  20. Bill you really think macarenelli would have an easy time with haye ? that surprises me...i talk with a lot of lads who know their boxing and your one of the first ive heard that think he would win......myself i dont go along with the current enzo calzaghe ravings...i think he is a good trainer but not great, and i certainly believe that had joe gone with a top class trainer his career would probably have taken a different course...he may have lost a few but he would have probably also beaten a few top class fighters as well...gavin rees i think should be flattered by his top 10 world rating...and macaranelli, well i just dont feel he or haye are top notch they are just 2 of the best in a poor division but i think haye would have too much natural power for him...haye is a big cruiser and macaranelli has always made the weight easily i think haye would stop him within 6 rounds...but i guess we,ll never know....i think haye has no reason to duck enzo its a big money fight for him with a great chance of winning...i think he genuinely knows he has outgrown the weight you only needed to look at his body last night he looked drawn and had a clear lack of leg power...

I make you right about hatton/cotto......i believe if he beats mayweather he will have to fight cotto...( and probably lose)but if he loses to mayweather you can bet he will go back down to light welter and fight junior witter( and probably win)

  21. So whats yous opinions on the fights....personally i dont think Froch was tested at all and needs to set his sights higher, reid was finished 4 years ago......Haye did a good job but showed his basic technical weaknesses....i dont think he will go further than a british title as a heavyweight but agree he cant go on as a cruiser.....cotto i thought won on the fact that mosley simply could not hurt him...it was the typical boxer/fighter contest and on this occasion the fighter won and deservedly so....possible future opponent for hatton if he he gets past mayweather...after all,if hatton wins can he really avoid the other big names at welterweight and drop back down...surely not.

    Good weekend of fights anyway

  22. 3 fights this weekend....whats your predictions....

Froch - Reid............Hopefully Reid but my brain says Froch by stoppage.

    Haye - Mormeck......Haye by ko.

Cotto - Mosley ........ Mosley by decision.

Lets see who can get 3 out of 3 :hmm:

  23. Most of these so called " undercover operations " are no more than clever advertising....most of what they do doesnt even warrant a tiny quarter page article in a local paper yet most times anything they do recieves much more coverage than it should,tv in this case !......nothing makes granny put her hand in her pocket quicker than seeing the great work these wankers do...if they didnt rely on donations i guarentee most of their cases wouldnt even make the news.
