  1. Iv only ever used whippets and a whipet x collie for working rabbits and hares (pre-ban) and I was wanting something different , not too big and no bull ( mum won't let me lol ) I was thinking maybe a staffxwhippet and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with 1 or pics. Thanks

a staff is classed as a bull lol. but get a 1/4 or less as can be a bit heavy as i got a 1/2 cross is heavy no good for rabbits buit good things that bite

  3. Hi All

This is a little bitch i bought from someone on here as a young pup - she has gone a year now and i plan to start her on the lamp within the next few weeks and see how she goes.

She has done nothing yet but is a really nice natured, obedient little dog,i have high hopes for her

hows the dog coming along the 1 bought off me , nice little bitch you got there aswell

  4. Hi.

i agree with the previous comments on using show strain, not only do they have more inherant problems , Eyes and Ears etc, they also lack pace and drive.

the other thing to consider is further down the line of breeding, some unscrupulous people may sell there pups falsely as pure bred working strain. This has happened in the past with sprocker type pups.

And as for the price of pups, i am also from south wales and the only pups sold for £700 plus are bred by Dai Ormond(Rowston) and Peter Jones(Maessyderwen). so i must agree very excessive price for what they are.

My FTAW cocker only cost £55o and he is out of FTCHXFTCH.

    post-16128-126602037641_thumb.jpg

nice looking cocker you got there , i think after alot helpful advise males will be £350 and females £400

  5. are these kc reg, and also agree with paul, fee is high for a mix of 2 different strains if we are totally honest. I wouldn't touch show line stock, personally but glad she is doing a job for you,

yea kc reg and pups will be kc reg docked dew clawed frontline and insured for 6 weeks,

  6. mate i think u r asking to much for these pups, u can buy 100% pure working cockers for that money, i wudnt touch 1 of these anyway...

bargain if you can get them at that price around here a full pedigree working strain from maesderwyn etc are around 700-800 a pup also show strains of cocker are at least 600 a pup

  7. nice dogs them how much would you like for a pup mate

if i can find a vet that will dock as i have rang about 10 vets and all said no, they will be £500 female and £450 male ,

as for crossing working and show strain i want a pup off the litter to work and wanted nore working strain in her , as i was giving the mum a phew years back and trainned her up to work under my birds bushing and retreving , she still got a very good nose and drive with all her show strain in her , hope this helps

  10. Just started reading about harris hawks as interested in the sport but want to make sure its right for me and i really want to do it.

have i got the time etc.

So i have been talking to people, reading etc.. Im not in any rush at all, thats the last thing i want to do.

i was just wondering what gender to look at if i did decide to purchase one? (only read soo much out of a book)

obviously i will want to find myself a mentor to show me the ropes, get some handson experience too, before buying one too. more i can do the more i will know if its right for me.. like i said there is no rush.

if i was to get one, it would be mostly used on rabbits whilst mooching around, and ferreting. mayb odd pheasant.

i looked breifly into goshawks but there more expensive and been told they need flying from the fist. i dont think that would suit me ferreting. Although i like the speed and agility of such a bird. range of game it can take.

any way back to main topic, sorry gone on and on.

but which would you reccomend for me?

or just the pro's and con's of each gender.

    kind regards

before you even get a bird get all equipment as you mentioned goshawks where dear when starting equipment is much more , a avairy £100 plus , telemetry £300 plus all equipment glove box , bow perches , food etc can cost £500 plus, roughly a 1000 before even getting a bird . when you got all them sorted then start sorcing for a bird only with a mentor or someone with a bit of expericance to help a male harris 200-250 a female 250 -350 then get the bird insured as vets are not cheap for birds as you will find out ,then have you got time to fly and hunt regualy not just saturdays as falconry is ery time comsuming but once all that , happy hawking hope you do find help and enjoy the sport as once started your hooked for life

  11. Hi Dafydd, i like the smaller european gosses and there are very few people breeding them in the UK. Most seem to prefer the larger finn's or cross finn's and now people are getting into the russian albidus birds.

    Cheers

    David

im breeding small ones hopefully this year female hunts at 1.15 t0 2.0 and male hunts 1.5 pm me if intreastead

  12. Hi Dafydd23, was it dificult to get her brought in? Also was she a passage, eyeas or brancher?

    Cheers

    David

somone else brought her here a couple of years ago and she was a eyass taken from nest , why do you want a wild taken goss for if you dont mind ,

  13. Hi, i was just wondering if it was still possible to get wild taken goshawks brought in from the continent?

Does anyone still import German or Czech birds?

    Cheers

    David

ther was ten finnish gos imported in 2002 to derbyshire in england

i got a wild taken female from austria

  14. in my back garden have tried her with a dummy rabbit she doesent seem to bother she looks as if she is going to go for it but she doesent .as for the trees she goes in some and not others then she flys on roof any more help any one

build her confidence up on it start by putting a tit bit or half a chick on it dont pull it or move it let her drop down on it let her feed on it then practice trading off the kill , next try it again but moivng it slowly , then you want to aim for is running full pelt down a feild with her up your ars e and nailing it ,

as for flying on roof tops where is your hunting ground ???? but she will get better flying into trees with more experiance , also she is youngester so dont exepct her to be a killing machince on your first outing it takes time and a bond to have a good bird in the feild

  15. i have gave it a fresh rabbit which i caught yesterday then brought it weight down to 2.2 today then flused a rabbit today and she showed no interest in chaseing

get it chasing a dummy bunny first and nailing that all the time aslo try putting her up a tree and bolt some under her

  16. lost on weekend betttws newydd female bird 1lb 14 when lost got picked up by the wind and carried back down the valley, been back out today no sign of her jess and bells no telemtry very calm bird so may be called down if seen, on land up past black bear on farm below wind terbine on the left any news gratefully recived.has ibr ring of the breeder on leg her name is roxie
