Great looking dogs.

Theres nothing wrong with using a treadmill!!! As others have said, its an addition to the normal road work and free running. Actually (especially if you have a few doggies) it makes sense unless you wanna spend half your day walking around, as most people work, thats not possible! I had one for many years (right next to my computer desk), but needed the cash so had to sell it unfortunately, it wasn't in use, I've left the UK and it was back there. Definitely a plus to have one though, just make sure your dog does a shit before hand, one of mine would do her business whilst walking on it i

Natural selection and selective breeding, mate ! There's some wide open spaces out there in the Middle East, nothing for as far as the eye can see. A dog needs speed to get up on it's quarry and stamina to keep up with it. I'd imagine the wild dogs that were the forebears to the Saluki had survival of the fittest and when the Beduins breed them, looks don't come into it, best to the best and ruthless culling. I asked Sheik Hamed if he prefered Feathered or Smooth; he looked at me and said coat and colour mean nothing..it's how they perform that decides if they are good enough to breed Che

I live in the UAE and let me tell you that the stamina of these working Saluki is incredible. Hunting is illegal here so people either travel to Saudi or Egypt. Wild stocks are not completely depleted in the Gulf. Wether these were droppers in the vids or not, I don't know, but these dogs can move! For the guy who had a Patrol in Oz, yup!!! I've got a Capsula, theres Nothing better for the desert than the Patrol, but god, do they drink!! Lol. Heres a little pic of me and Hamad Al Ghanem.

Spot on mate! Trying to read some members posts gives me a fcuking headache!! LOL!!

Well said!! Respect for all quarry is of the upmost importance. If someone doesn't respect the animal they are hunting they shouldn't hunt, fullstop!!!! That means a quick kill (not to silence the animal to keep you out of trouble as someone stated, but a quick kill so minimal suffering occurs), these are vertebrates that feel pain, a quick dispatch is the correct and moral thing to do. Respect also means eating what you kill, if for what ever reason you don't want to eat it yourself, give it to someone else or to the dogs. Once this farmer gave me a calf (beef) that had recently died,

Cheers Lads! Been thinking about getting a terrier or two for sometime now. Just need to make up my mind wether Patterdale or Plummer. I was interested in the Patt for a while, still am, but thinking it may be too hard for what I want. I'm NOT interested in killing foxes so now I'm leaning towards the Plummer. Cheers

Hello All and Merry Christmas! I have a question that I'm hoping can get answered. When people talk about bushing for rabbits, I have a great bushing dog etc. What does this involve and how does it work? This may seem like a stupid question but its got me honestly confused From what I understand, the bushing dog enters a bush and flushes out rabbits (thats what I'm interested in) for the lurcher or to be shot. I don't quite understand how this happens! I've experienced having a dog or two on one side of a hedge (not actual bushes, just a thin hedge), rabbit has been scar

All dogs looking good!

What?? Nobody else got anything to add?? Also, I was wondering what coat is shown? If you had two equal dogs in the ring but different coats, would the feathered win over the normal coat?
-
Cheers Riohog!! Do you think maybe the west has gone down the route of the feathered Sal due to these dogs being able to cope a bit better with the cold? Especially having the extra fur on the ears, surely thats gotta help when it gets a bit nippy. And comparing some feathered with some smooth, the feathered variety seem to have slightly longer hair over the entire body. Maybe the feathered coped better in the UK, hence thats what people bred for and in turn thats what people got used to seeing? Similar to the breeds eg the Rottweiler which have traditionally been docked, most peopl

Where have the pics gone of Lynx???? A great looking dog!!

I've noticed that the vast majority, if not all the Salukis I've seen in the UK are of the feathered variety. Why is that?? Is it that people in the UK prefer the feathered dog? If yes, why? Is it form or function? Or is it that there are only feathered specimens available? I'd like to hear from our Saluki fans on the board! Please post pics as well, of both the feathered and the normal coat (if there are any out there???) Cheers, DRP

Hello All, I haven't been on the site for a couple of months until this morning. I see its been changed a bit. I like the look of the new site but I'm getting pissed off with it. When I type something into the search eg Alaunt - it doesnt home in on what I want, it can give you for example 100 different answers for your search, maybe 50 of which are from the same thread but when you click on any of the 50 results, they all take you to the begining of that thread. I'm getting really ticked off with this, computers piss me off on my best days!! Can someone please help me with this?

I'm still not 100% sure I've got it mate...... It looks like you've got glass in your living room wall that is the same side as your pond outside, and that you can see into your pond whilst sitting in your house. Is that right??? If so, that is well NICE!!!! I'd love a similar setup with Cichlids from Lake Malawi and or Tanganika! ATB mate

Well, Prick, this idiot has formed his opinion of you, not due to your perverted friends, but because you would quite happily whack a ferret on the ground in order to get it off you. And now that you're stating a ferret should be killed if it bites you, well, what can I say, apart from you're a PRICK, LOL!!!! Idiot!

Interesting, does she ever manage to actually catch them and pull them out? How often does she scare them out of another hole? Or does she not go in deep enough? Has she ever got stuck or does she always manage to get out herself? She's flushed a few out of one massive set at the end of last season, and caught another in one. Touch wood, she hasn't got stuck as yet, she's small all over, not just in height. She hasn't been in that many big warrens, only the one I just mentioned. I don't go out solely putting her to ground after rabbits, I work her with the ferrets, but I like to see her
