  3. who uses a rangefinder and is it worth using one? regards, jack
  4. snap shot cheers i hope i get it too. have been stuck on shotgun shooting too long. not that its not fun anyway
  5. i went to see my local firearms dealer today and ad a chat with about it whilst having a look at the cz 452 silhouette. nice little rifle anyway he said that unless you get a cabinet specifically tailored to the size you want you wont find one that small. and im not mr moneybags splashing out on alot for a tailor made gun cabinet. i would assume they cost in excess of £500 so thats out of the question. i may have to lie it flat somewhere. quick question. does the cabinet have to be kept in the home or residence of the fac holder. i only ask because my old man is a farmer and we have a pretty
  6. .17hmr isn't a foxing calibre is it. well its not legal i don't think. i know people still shoot charlie with rimfires and admittedly i probably would as well if i felt i was certain i would get a humane kill. i would only do so though because we have a large number of foxes on our land and we've recently had a large number of game brought in. don't want charlie eating all the pheasants before we get to shoot them. who regularly shoots foxes with a rimfire? also while this topic is quite hot, ive posted on the reloading, optics and ammunition forum about shotgun cabinets for my new rifle.
  7. for example how long is a cz 452 varmint with 20" barrel and a moderator. am i going to fit it into a cabinet that big.
  8. cheers john thanks for clearing it up. think you just about answered the question haha i'll bear that in mind if/when (hopefully when) i go onto centrefires. our keeper does loads of fox shooting so i might see if i can go out with him a couple of times. where abouts do you shoot mate?
  9. i know this is a completely newbie question because it's probably a very easy question to answer. in my defence i've never shot a fox and am only currently applying a .17hmr so no foxing calibres for the next couple of years. the majority of stories i've heard on here about fox shooting, nearly everyone has shot their foxes through the heart, or as near as possible. why is this? i would have thought that a head shot was a more humane kill but perhaps it isnt. what is the reason for it. regards, MCnoob (i.e jack)
  10. im having some problems with where to put my cabinet for an fac. ive held an sgc for quite a few years now and since applying for my fac we have moved house. i sent off for it two days ago and want to get my cabinet in place before the feo comes for the interview. the problem is that the only feasible space for my cabinet is under the stairs. that has a maximum height of 40 inches. will it be possible to fit a rifle in a cabinet that big or is it not possible? regards, jack
  11. cheers boys some good reccomendations. i'll have a look around on ebay. i have to say ive heard alot of good things about mtc scopes and a few bad points so i dont know whether its personal preference or faulty scopes from the factory. thanks for your time. Jack
  12. also is it worth splashing out on a range finder. i know that for an hmr you wouldnt need to spend huge amounts of money as the ranges wont be huge but i would have thought its still beneficial to know exactly what range rather than using reference points.
  13. im getting a cz 452 .17hmr and am currently looking for the right scope to get. my budget is around £150 and im hoping i can get a pretty decent scope for that price. would it be best to get a mil-dot scope so i can adjust for elevation and windage? if anyone has any good ideas that woud be great. regards, Jack
  14. hi wats the mod you have one the rifle. do you have any problems with it. cheers
  15. hi im relatively new to the forum but i havnt had a chance to make a post up until now. i have an sgc and have been shooting air rifles for a while as well. i have recently sent off for my fac for a .22lr rifle and as i cant afford something like a sako at the moment i was looking at the cz 452 ith the synthetic stock and the 16" barrel. i would splash out on a sako but i intend to get a variation on my fac within one or two years for a good centrefire for charlie and muntjac. maybe a .223 or .243. besides the point. anyway does anyone have any opinions on the cz or reccomend a different rifle
