  1. stopped having my lot in when we had the nipper, but she discovered the dogs in the yard now. They all seem calm with her. Cant wait till she old enough to come out with the dogs and me, bit to go though she not even 18 months
  2. Will be a while before I get another lurcher, but unless something wheatenX is available when I do. Then it will be something like these dogs. Sounds about perfect for what I would eventually want. Really like the first cross.
  3. Had a fair decent afternoon. Went out for a mooch with the jrt and terrier cross and decided to take the wifes collie for a run. Got a few fields up and they all dissapeared into a blackthorn copse, few seconds later and a rabbit flushed at the other end, then I caught the collie running in front of me, hot on the heels of another, now this dog isn't fully fit but it made the ground up and caught the rabbit before it hit the woods, but only pawed at it so it got away for another day. More than happy as it's first time I took it for a run in ages. Carried on round the woods and found th
  4. more great looking dogs. Finding this type very appealing. What mix is the dog on the slip lead? What are they like on the occaisional pre ban quarry? (in NI so still legal) Are they lacking due to size?
  5. Great dog. Prefer that kind of coat too. What height does she stand?
  6. Cracking dog, always admire them pictures.
  7. Meant to say too, about coat types and bulkiness etc trainability. Is the first cross quick enough, and what sort of sizes would it reach. Like the look of some first crosses I have seen. Prefer a rough or broken coated dog too.
  8. Was just wondering what peoples thoughts are on the bedlington whippet crosses. I know they are great rabbit dogs but what mixes bring what to the table? 1st cross or 3/4 or reverse 3/4? Is the reverse still quick enough, is the 1st cross harder mouthed etc. What experiences have people had, and maybe pictures of different mixes if you have them?

    help

I have a lovely picture of my daughter, but the back ground is terrible. I want to take the picture off the background. Can anyone tell me how to do this, as I havent a clue. Thanks for any help in advance.
  10. great dogs, what size are they all tts? whats the smallest that you all use?
  11. Any pictures I take now will never be put up anywhere, and I am only ferreting. Contemplating taking you tube vids off, but is only wee things off the dogs running around, so won't bother. I do agree about keeping all to yourself, if it's not up anywhere it can't bite you in the arse. Again though the keeping to yourself goes back to my original post, honest men are going to close ranks on newcomers, and as I said rightly so, but it doesn't make life easier for us. It may lead to a situation where dog men won't talk to strangers, honest newcomers are afraid to ask or know there's no p
  12. my wee jrt does this back and forward. Check under the leaf litter or by any rocks and roots. I have found more times than enough tiny holes, at times likely mice but on bigger ones found bedding materials when dug down, and nest chambers in buries I knew. Don't know if thats any help to you.
  13. Ina brief conversation I was told that a new law had been pushed through. That if you were found guilty of killing a badger for any reason it's a mandatory jail sentence.
  14. Just to clear it up, I wasn,t walking down a public road. Would be asking for trouble that way. I live in a wee village and only have to step out of my front gate and cross a country road, to get up the lane to my ground. It was the owner of a house up this lane that passed me. Never had anything but a wave from them and the man and his father both talk to me regularly. Just noticed it was odd, but could be nothing. The only reason I carry the spade is that I used to take a walking stick. Makes it easier when it's muddy, but the jrt is digging at rat holes so I swopped the stick for the s
  15. I don't know if the recent press will push forward to a ban as in england, or if the law will stay thd same. Have very little confidence in the authorities to do what is fair. Will give in a lot to pressure groups, or those that benefit themselves. Whatever will happen is in the future, for the present the media will make it very hard for honest hunters. I got a funny look the other day from the owner of a house who I pass very regularly. They knnow me and my dogs and see me a lot, but I noticed a difference, and can only put it down to me having two dogs and carrying a spade. That doe
  16. Thank you very much. Pleased she is doing well for him, is good news. Am aiming to get shotguns this year, not really in a situation to get a new terrier at the minute so have to make do with what I have, and hope she catches on to things. The current situation definately isn't ideal and can only hope that things don't go the wrong way. Would be a shame to have things banned when I am just getting started haha
  17. I was bought up in London, even though a countryman at heart, I hunted, shot and Fished (very well). I well recall afriend, who in a show and tell in class showed pics of his dads lurchers retrieving rabbits, and was took up to the head master. This was more than 10 year ago. All sorts of trouble, cruel etc and took pics from him My wife, who as understanding as she and totally accepting of country life is still squeamish with my catches, but loves to hear how the dogs done well. Nothing illegall in ferreting, just ignore em and do what you know is right. How many people speed
  18. my fault haha underestimated all the same
  19. Thanks mate, he really is sensitive, but smart and doing well, sorry you havent got her anymore, So am I. She went to a really good home. And I know she will be looked after and loved. And brought on more than I ever could. But that dog is missed every time i look out of the window, or lift a lead or pass a bury.
  20. No. I moved to NI from se england, and to be honest had never heard of the wheaten terrier. As you say what an underestimated dog, and perhaps for the best, if it can be kept from the pet world maybe it can be a solely working dog. I would always have space for one, and would reccommend them. or their crosses to anyone who wants a working dog.
  21. My wee jrt has just started to go to ground and as happy as I am, all the press coverage is sickening. It makes it 10 times as hard for genuine newcomers to get into things with genuine dog men. Understandably so. I have been out with 100% real dogmen and was put to shame, I thought that I give my dogs great care and lives ( and I do) but the care, effort and love that goes into some of these dogs is unreal. The quality and condition of the working, legitimate dogs i have seen, far out ways some of the pampered, overweight, out of condition untrained and frankly badly behaved, pets i hav
  22. Pushed a 3/4 grown from cover and bolted a youngish one fro a bury that also held a good strong healthy buck. Honestly don't think I'll get many more days now. Bound to hit young un's soon.
  23. I had a bull wheaton grey, untill very recently. And I would have a wheaten cross any day of the wek. Very smart in the field, awkward in the yard though haha A great dog all round, soft as shit with people but had a wicked strike. Easy to train, but stubborn too. Was my best mate, she has gone to someone who will get the best from her. I would get the same tommorrow if I could. Great dog for everything I could want. Did ferrets, lamping and moocjing. Fur and feather. Best dog you could get I think.
