Thats true mate..we all have different experiences upon which we base our opinions and set our standards..I read Jackie Drakeford in the Countrymans weekly from time to time and some of the stuff she writes contradicts what McKay has written...and some of his stuff contradicts Bezzant etc etc..
-
What do you mean even IF we win f**k all...you ALWAYS win f**k all..and NEVER WILL win f**k all..cant wait till tomorrow marching down Leazes Lane and into Sid James Park.. CUMON YOU MACKEMS...

I hope you dont see this as being sexist or as anything other than genuine curiosity Kay..because I aint sexist..but do you work your ferrets and what do you feed as a general rule ?? Its just that where I live in an East Durham mining village full of country sports..I cant think of any ladies who participate..I think more should.. Re amount to feed..Dave Bezzant in his book suggests 2 1/12 DOCs per day per hob..now I dont hold Bezzant in high esteem or anything and I am not suggesting his book is the ferret bible.. so dont take that as cast in stone or anything..and dont all come down on

It aint an economy thing with me guys I can assure you..I genuinely think they are ok to feed if in sensible quantity..and they help to span the frozen rabbit etc in the freezer out a bit longer..if I did'nt think they were ok I would not use them..but thats only my own method and opinion..which is really no better than anyone elses...each to their own ways I guess..
-
Well done lads..looks like you had a great days sport and long may it continue for you..all the best..

OK Smoggy...dont forget to check undewr your kids underpants before you go..Marrietta Higgs had the measure of you c**ts alright..

Keegan was never involved in a Tyne Wear Derby as a manager..and I cant remember as a player either..but by the same token Keano has'nt lost a Tyne Wear derby either !! CUMON YOU MACKEMS !!

But if you read David Bezzant's book he feeds them..Is Mckay not talking about feeding solely DOCs ?? ..because on that basis I would perhaps agree that a pregnant jill or nursing jill would need an extra supplement..that goes without saying..in fact personally I would only feed DOCs as part of a varied diet for anything..even though it may be a substantial part of the diet..it is not the whole diet.. In the colder months when rabbits are below ground...and it is cold on the North Pennines where I do my ferreting and hawking..the ferrets we use are worked hard and run through some big deep

Hello mate..the yolk is very high in cholestorol and that is the only reason I chose to eliminate some of it..the hawks like to eat it and so to do the ferrets..but as I said I half the yolk intake and squeeze the sacs out of every other one fed..whether this does any good I cant say for sure..but too much cholestorol cant be any good for anything..I am not saying that what I do is right for everyone..but it is how I do it..and so far so good no side effects after a decade.. Also..mink farmers use considerable amounts of DOCs to feed their stock..whether they de yolk all of them or some of

There is another type..perhaps the one you have seen on e bay advertised frequently in the Countrymans Weekly..not sure what it is like though.. I still use the old Deben Mk 1 grey box and micro collars..but now the new ones have been around a while and seem to be getting good reports I may try the new one for this coming season..
-
I agree Andy..I remove some of the egg yolks but not all...I squeeze the yolk sac out of every other one fed..

Special K...boy I bet you geordies are glad the messiah is back..never won f**k all when he was there before and he will win f**k all this time.. Cumon you Mackems....FTM

What's so essential about lots of muscle? They shouldn't get too much muscle meat anyway. If you look, you'll see chicks have all the usual organs (heart, liver, etc). Probably a bit short on bone so yes they shouldn't be feed exclusively (nothing should be) but at least they provide a range of tissue types. If you're worried about the feathers than just wet the chicks before giving them to the ferrets. Many in falconry..myself included feed quite a lot of DOCs..mainly throughout the summer..I feed them every other day.. ie one day chicks the next day rat..next day chicks and t

Hi Danny...I agree with Jules on this one...hemp is definitely the best but they take some looking after otherwise they quickly detiorate....so I use spun nylon...which looks very similar to hemp but is rot proof..and therefore cam be put away even when wet and forgotten until the next time.. The basic nylon ones stick to everything and tangle with everything..twigs bracken etc and they take some untangling..hemp and spun nylon do not suffer as much in this regard.. all the best mate

Hello Pitindall did you manage to get a photo or two of the dark polecats you mentioned mate ??

Spar, I think you are right,Neil has answered his question time and time again but he keeps coming back with with the same questions I find it inconcievable that a right thinking individual could persist with this. He never answers a question . I don't know what scooby falcons has to do with this, but probably one of Dereks pals just putting his tuppence worth in to make it look good I will not post on this again because the man is obvioulsy in need of psychiatric help CHILDISH REMARKS MEAN NOTHING. DOCUMENTED FACTS ARE WHAT ARE NEEDED. Now let me make my point clearly, I a

That just about sums it for me Stubby..and that would describe a typical day with the ferrets..things aint always as it looks..as a kid I used to wonder why the ferrets sometimes would not enter a fresh looking sett..yet rush into a less likely looking burrow further on and clean it out..rabbits bolting right and left from holes I never saw blocked with fallen leaves etc...it did'nt occur to me back then that the ferret simply knew what it was doing..and thankfully so..because I certainly did'nt..but I enjoyed myself all the same.. all the best

The miners strike 1984 / 1985 was something I was involved in..also 1972 and 1974..sadly we lost the big one and Thatcherism prevailed..but during the year we were out I was into a few things..we certainly never went hungry..while I have used nets in the river I always preferred a gaff..lamping the pools where the fish were queuing up to jump..not very sporting but very productive.. all the best
-
Sometimes the ferret knows best..and it depends how experienced and trustworthy your ferret is..and what you know about her..most of the lads who ferret a lot and keep a decent reliable ferret or two will tell you that sometimes a sett may look like it is holding rabbits..but the ferret takes a sniff at the hole and moves on..nothing at home you can guarantee..

Cheers mate..did you ever meet a farmer down there name Keith Newlove..he was at Bugthorpe when I knew him..had a cracking line of jack russell terriers..nice narrow chested leggy type..his father in law was a man named Oliver Gill and I think they had the lines between them...had some great days out with them..we had one or two of these russells off him in the 1970s..real nice bloke to..proper sporting countryman.. I am from east durham so not a million miles away..
-
Thanks Pitindal..would you be able to send a photo or two and if at all possible the breeder contact details assuming they are what I am after..you can do this via pm if you wish or just on here mate.. Which area do you live ?
-
Yeah the pal who traps one every couple of years does so in Wales with the help of a keeper pal and he then releases the polecat after the job is done..like you mate I must have reliably tame ferrets..thats the only way they should be..and I will stick with domesticated stuff..
-
You remind me of me Whin..we always ran a decent lurcher..my son still does..day and night and we were always either in the Tyne or the Wear after salmon and sea trout with the lamp and gaff..those were the days mate (g)

What do you suggest we try if he doesnt confess, waterboarding, stress positions, electric shock, heck why dont we go the whole hog and ship him to Treblinka and stick him in a gas chamber if he will not confess. I would hope Derek would'nt do anything that drastic mate honestly...if I were him I would try saying to Neil Hunter "LIAR LIAR YOUR BUMS ON FIRE" that might do the trick..
